PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification describes the invention


Field of invention
This invention relates to structural member for a vehicle and particularly relates to cross car beam of a vehicle. Cross car beam used to connect between pillars at front.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Cross car beam is used for connecting between pillars at front. It is been used for mounting dash board of vehicle. It is used for increase torsional stiffness of the vehicle at the front end. Usually in all vehicles straight elements with constant cross section are used for the cross car beam.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to provide a two element cross car beam assembly which provides better torsional stiffness as well as low steering column vibrations.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a cross car beam which consist of two different element in non coaxial directions to accommodate HVAC unit.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring to Figure 1 and figure 2, a cross car beam is shown which is an assembly of two separate beam located non-coaxially. The first beam (2) which


is having greater length and smaller diameter compared to the second beam (3). One end of the first beam (2) is connected to a bracket (4) which is then connected to side wall and the fire wall of the vehicle. The other end of the beam (2) is connected to support bracket (5) located in the middle portion of the cross car beam assembly. The support bracket (5) is connected to the firewall for more stiffness. The beam (2) is also connected to the floor through a 'U' shaped support tube (8). The axis of the second beam (3) is parallel to the first beam (2) and the axis of the first and beam separated by a particular distance. One end of the second beam (3) connected to the support bracket (5) and other end connected to the end bracket (6) which is then connected to the firewall and the side wall of the vehicle. A steering column mounting bracket (9) located at the middle portion of the second beam (3) connects it to the firewall. A connecting member (7) is mounted between the first and second beam to make the connection stiff.
The non-coaxial arrangement of two beams make possible to accommodate HVAC unit in front of the first beam (2) and position of the second beam make possible to accommodate the steering column support locate inner so that more space is available for driver.
Due to the intermediate mountings on the firewall and on the floor torsional stiffness of the total arrangement is higher than the single element cross car beam.
