The present invention relates to reducing the level of air pollutants in atmosphere.
The objectives of this invention
The objective of the invention is to design and develop an open air purification model, which is capable of separating dust particles and other pollutants in open air by using continuous filter feedback mechanism and smart switching.
Background of the invention
The air quality being the major criteria to lead comfortable life in most parts of the worlds, especially air quality in INDIA is taken as major concern. According to WHO survey of 1650 world cities, many cities in India are noted having worst quality air. Air pollution in India is estimated to kill about 15 lakhs people every year, national capital Delhi being the fifth largest killer in India. According to WHO, India has the world's highest death rate from chronic respiratory diseases, Asthma, Breathlessness, Skin and Eye infections and others.
In Delhi, poor quality air irreversibly damages the lungs of 2.2 million or 50 percent of all children. India's Ministry of Earth Sciences published a research paper in October 2018 attributing almost 41% of PM2.5 air pollution in Delhi to vehicular emissions, 21.5% to dust and 18% to industries.
As it is very much required to purify air in most parts of an urban cites and living areas near companies and industries. This device has planned to develop efficient, effective and economical solution for contaminated air in open and closed spaces. This technological development from this project will be useful in purifying air in open and closed spaces through decentralized ways for many polluted places and save people from health related issues.
There are some technologies available for air purification but those technological developments are limited to purify air in only closed spaces like rooms or chambers. There are many air purification techniques available in market. On among them is air purification using intelligent sensors and intellectual air flow i.e. by the controller is configured to receive an input to select one of the predetermined operational settings to govern the operation of the air purifier mechanism (US20150306533A1). There is also another technique of using motor vehicle with means of removing dust from surrounding air i.e. by filters made capable of filtering and retaining particles, dust and fine dust, one or more suction members driven by a system fitted on the said vehicle being fixed on one or more of the remaining walls and being made in such a way that they suck the air (WO2003064008A1). One another technique of method and manufacture for purifying the atmosphere in which particulate in the polluted ambient air is collected and retained, thereby purifying the ambient air (US5509853A).
The main disadvantage of above mentioned techniques are suitable for only indoor applications and cannot be operated in larger volumes to purify open air or outdoor air in atmosphere. These technological developments also leaves some spaces in the areas of making system adaptable for open air purification, handling larger volumes of purification, increasing effectiveness of air purifier, making system into decentralized way and reducing operational and investment costs.
Summary of the invention
In the present innovative invention, the open air purifier brings down air pollutants in open and closed spaces by large volumes in polluted spaces like Industrial areas, Areas near Mines, living areas near companies, polluted traffic lanes, suffocating spaces, lawns, balconies, Streets and play grounds.
The developed device can also act as an extra attachment for many small and medium scale industries to capture pollutant particles of size up to 0.25 microns without leaving them into open air.
This device makes it unique because of its following features like Covering vast areas by working in decentralized way, Will work on the basis of Smart Switching system developed, Requires less Investment and optimal maintenance cost, Consumes very less power which can also be sourced by renewable energy in further up gradations.
Detailed description of the invention
Air pollution levels remained dangerously in many parts of the world. The purification systems developed so far has got limited to closed spaces. The rise of dust and other pollutants in air are getting increased day by day. The level of pollutants in an open air is considered responsible for many chronic respiratory diseases, Asthma, Breathlessness, Skin and Eye infections and others.
The main objective of the Decentralized open air purifier (Fig.1) is to capture dust particles and other harmful pollutants from atmosphere. The developed device is made capable of separating polluting particles of size up to 0.3 microns in an open air.
With reference to the figure 1, the decentralized open air purifier mainly consists of 4 major sections, namely Dome Section (A), Filtrations Section (B), Blower section (C) and Purified Air Outlet section (D).
With reference to figure 2, The sections provided in the open air purifier have specific roles during the implementation of purification process, likely the purpose of Dome section (11) is to pull-in the polluted air (10) from the atmosphere in to the device along with Dome section (11) will also act as barrier to stop insects and other flies entering the device with proper meshing provided around. The dome (11) provided will act as protecting layer for the inside parts of the device from adverse environmental conditions like rains, storms etc.
In the filtration section, the main process of air purification happens. With reference to (figure 2), the filtration section consists of four different layers of filters. The first filter layer is the coarse level of filtration (1) and it filters particulate matter like coarse dust particles and other dense particles. The second layer of filtration is for medium level of purification and it captures escaped medium sized particles and traps them in to the filter material. The third and fourth level of purification are namely Fine level of Purification (3) and Very fine level of purification (4), these two layers are used to trap very fine dust particles, pollutants like carbon monoxide, Nitrogen dioxide and other heavy gases. The very fine level of purification layer (4) is also provided with capillary action of fluid with suitable solution, such that very fine pollutants and trapped properly and only purified air passes the system. All the filters in filtration section are given with feed mechanism, such that filters moves very slowly from one source roller to opposite roller absorbing pollutants into them. Feed rates being different for every filter and when compared feed rates are high for coarse layer of filter then to very fine layer of filter. All the filters are given with continuous feed-back mechanism (5). The filter feed-back mechanism (5) is powered continuously by a blower using gearing mechanism. The gearing mechanism helps in reducing the speed of roller feeds by the using set of gears. The feeding mechanism can be calibrated to optimize moment of rollers depending on the level of pollutants in atmosphere near the device.
The device consists of a blower attachment (6) with six blades with angular inclination to the hub and the entire blower setup is fixed in the blower casing (7) under the layers of the filters. The purpose of the blower is to create sufficient drag pressure inside the device such that outside polluted air can easily enter the device for purification. Thus, the polluted air is made to pass all the layers of filters by the pulling force provided by the blower.
The Purified air outlet section (D) is placed at a minimum distance of 2-3 meters from the blower such that the air is dispensed at a distance away from the dome. This arrangement helps in keeping purified air away such that the same portion of air does not come again for filtration process.
The developed device is capable of working in decentralized way covering vast areas of polluted spaces. The design of this open air purifier is made in such a way that it is resistant to adverse environmental conditions like Heavy Rains, Storms, Cold Temperatures, Extreme dry conditions and Frost damage.
This open air purification device works very effectively by using automated feed-back mechanism arranged for different layers of filters depending on the level of pollutants in the areas. This device is also equipped with smart switching mechanism to adapt with various devices around to reduce operational and investments costs.
The developed device will include minimum maintenance once in four or six months. This device can also act as an extra attachment to street light poles to reduce pollution levels in most parts of urban areas.
