Design And Development Of An Automated Exercising System For Paralyzed Patients

Abstract: 7. ABSTRACT: [0010] When a patient suffers from a paralysis attack, the whole body or parts of their body may be disabled to move which means their movement is restricted. It is more likely due to a problem somewhere along the chain of nerve cells that runs from the body part to the brain. These nerve cells deliver the signals for muscles to move. The proposed system helps paralyzed patients to exercise the paralyzed body part by analyzing the condition and degree of paralysis on regular basis and alerts the patients to do exercise in time which helps in blood flow to the brain. Having the movements, will increase the blood flow and help the patient to recover from paralysis. The specific degree of movement is specified by the doctors/physiotherapist, which must be followed while exercising. The proposed system is portable and cost-effective.

Specification

Description:The different parts of the system:
FIG 1: -
1a - first arm member
1b - first arm member
2a - second arm member
2b - second arm member
3a,3b,3c,3d - leather belts
4 - motor
5 - pinion gear
6 - driven gear
[0008] Gears that are operationally coupled to the drive assembly and the second arm member are included in the device disclosed for restoring function to a paralyzed patient body part. An operational connection between the driven gear and the second arm member is made by a pinion gear as part of the system disclosed for regaining function in a paralyzed patient body part. A driven gear that is dependent on the drive assembly is part of the system described for regaining function for a paralyzed patient body part. A drive member and an input member that is operationally connected to one another such that rotation of the drive member causes rotation of the pinion gear are part of the device for restoring function to a paralyzed patient body part. A movable pinion gear regarding the driving gear is part of the device provided for restoring function to a paralyzed patient body part. Teeth that engage the driving gear with the pinion are part of the apparatus described for bringing back function to a patient's paralyzed body part. The pinion and input member are movably connected by cuts that are the same size and form, which enables the system described to restore function to the patient's paralyzed body part. The device disclosed for giving the patient's paralyzed body part function can apply force to the second arm member without relying on the drive assembly to work. When the load on the drive assembly rises over a predetermined level, the electrical system of the device described for assisting a patient to regain use of a paralyzed body part will automatically shut off the power supply. The gadget that helps the patient's paralyzed body part regain function has an inbuilt force sensor on the second arm component that measures the pressure it delivers to the arm.
[0009] The degree of rotation will be loaded onto the microcontroller. The exercise process works in the following steps.
FIG 5: -
● Power on
● Microcontroller is on standby
The power is delivered to Microcontroller and Motor Driver. Hence the microcontroller is on standby and ready to operate.
FIG 6: -
● The signal is sent to the motor from the microcontroller and the motor driver drives the motor driver
FIG 7: -
● As the motor starts operating, the power is transmitted from driving to the driven gear
○ The proposed system starts functioning
● Power off
○ The stop Button is pressed, the power supply to the microcontroller stops, and the proposed system stops functioning.

, Claims:I/we claim/s:
1. A device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient, the device comprises:
a. A first arm member is configured to couple to a first body portion.
b. A second arm member is configured to couple to a second body portion.
c. A drive assembly is operable to drive the movement of the second arm member relative to the first arm member, and a force application assembly is integrated with the drive assembly and configured to apply a force to the second arm member to urge movement of the second arm member relative to the first arm member.
d. An electrical system configured with the drive assembly.
2. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 1, wherein the force application assembly includes gears operatively connected to the drive assembly and the second arm member.
3. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 1 and claim 2, wherein the force application assembly includes a pinion gear operatively connecting the driven gear to the second arm member.
4. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 1 and claim 2, wherein the drive assembly includes a drive member and an input member operatively connected to the drive member such that rotation of the drive member inputs rotation to the pinion gear.
5. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 3, wherein the pinion gear is movable relative to the driven gear and the driven gear is in engagement with the pinion with the help of teeth.
6. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 5, wherein the input member and the pinion are movably connected by equally shaped indivisible cuts.
7. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 1 and claim 5, wherein the force application assembly can apply the force to the second arm member independent of the operation of the drive assembly.
8. The device for the gain of function of the paralyzed body part of the patient as set forth in claim 1, the electrical system will auto cut the power supply when the load on the drive assembly is beyond the predefined value.
