Design And Fabrication Of Bucking Gauges For Light Combat Aircraft

Abstract: Thisinvention of the bucking Go and No Go Gauge ensured proper bucking quality in a faster and accurate way. Gauges for different diameters are made to check the quality on the spot accurately during the assembly. Checking the thickness and diameters with a vernier is not feasible in narrow areas and not accurate. These gauges are easy to use and helps tojmprove_ the quality of bucking.on assembly.

The invention describes process for Inspection of solid rivet bucking using a specially designed Go and No Go gauge

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION

Rivet plays a major role in assembly of aircraft structural parts..QnACA Tejas.A/c._.carrying out — inspection for solid rivet bucking as per Aircraft Standards is a continuous work and it is done by measuring the thickness and diameter of bucking using a vernier calipers. Line inspection is very difficult, time consuming process and cannot be done 100%. Vernier calipers cannot be used in some corners & narrow areas. Interpreting the correctness of bucking on the spot is not possible. Controlling bucking quality during.assembly is not feasible. Hence a need for Gauge aroused to check the bucking quality.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Go and NO GO Gauges for checking bucking quality and to avoid work strain. Calculations are made to get the minimum,maximum diameter and thickness of bucking rivet after riveting. "NO GO" was designed to the minimum diameter & thickness after riveting and "GO" gauge was designed to maximum diameter and thickness. "GO" and "NO GO" gauges were made with special tool steel material with high accuracy in CNC milling and checked with CMM. Different gauges were made to inspect different diameters of rivets like 2.4 mm, 3.2 mm 4.0 mm, 4.8 mm, 5.6 mm and 6.4 mm.
