Abstract: Sheet metal forming is one of the major process used in aeronautical industries, sheet metal forming includes stretch forming, rubber press forming, Press forming and hand forming for aeronautical applications. Similarly cutting application like hacksaw cutting, band saw cutting, shearing, laser cutting is common in sheet metal. The practical difficulties faced and rectification carried using improved tooling techniques to achieve the required contour tolerance on the parts are enumerated. This Design & concept provides the general input/frame work to design the cutting tools with required tolerance for other sheet metal parts used in Light Combat Aircraft.
DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention describes the Design concept of Cutting fixture for Bonding Strips.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
One of the categories of sheet metal parts in Light Combat Aircraft are Bonding Strips (Fig. 1) which has to be fabricated by round pipes with lesser diameter. Cutting of Pipe material to drawing dimension width is very difficult and time consuming process. Further the rejection rates are high due to low quality and twisting of the bonding strips.
Conventional method of cutting bonding strip involved:
a) Marking the part end in pipe as per drawing.
b) Cutting this part using hack saw one by
one which resulted in waste of time.
c) Final filing and finishing of part to maintain exact width.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
New Cutting Fixture was designed and fabricated using Mild Steel material with a slot which
facilitate entry of blade (Fig. 4). A strip stopper introduced to ensure exact width ( Fig. 4). This tool is designed to use on any band-saw cutting machine.
PROCESS DETAIL DESCRIPTION
New methodology of fabrication with cutting fixture is as follows:
a) Position the Pipe material on fixture as per Fig.2.
b) Ensure the butting of pipe material with stopper for required thickness as shown in Fig 3
c) Cut Pipe material on Band-saw Cutting machine as per Fig. 4
d) Remove sharp edges. DRAWINGS
