Design Optimization Of Scissor Trolley Ergonomically For Loading Flexible Armaments Stores For Light Combat Aircraft (Lca)

Abstract: Ground handling and support equipment (GHE and GSE) are used to service the aircraft between flights, Storage of required items etc. GHE for drop tank is specialized equipment to carry drop tank and load it on to the Aircraft. The present equipment used was not meeting ergonomic design it had drawbacks. To overcome the difficulties faced and to make the equipment more flexible even to accommodate other storage items like bombs, missiles etc new design of equipment was evolved which addressed all short comings of earlier design.

Specification

DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention describes the agronomical and flexible design of scissor trolley used for Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) for loading and handling of various armaments stores such as drop tanks, bombs, missiles etc. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Generally the trolleys, storage racks etc are called as Ground Handling Equipments (GHE)/Ground Support Equipments (GSE) in aeronautical industries. The existing equipment was difficult to handle and was leading to musculoskeletal hazards, equipment had single handle of length 150cm, diameter 4.5cm and weight 5kg which was making it difficult for maneuverability. The new design of equipment for LCA drop tank was evolved with consideration of participatory ergonomics concepts.
SUMMARY OF INVENTION
When starting of redesign on the existing GHE, survey was conducted by design team with the shop floor technicians and supervisors to get various inputs on the equipment (Fig 1) that was used and following difficulties were observed.
> Difficult in maneuverability
> Pain on the fore arm after pushing for long distances.
> Difficulty in adjusting the jaws while reloading of different armaments.
> Difficulty in Alignment of drop tanks. Etc.
New design has two handles and double X link which were designed considering the anthropometric variables making maneuverability easy. Handle for pushing is of length 100cm, diameter 3cm and weight 300gm and pulling has same length and diameter as that of pushing handle and weight of 10kg. The present design of Ground handling equipment for drop tanks with consideration of participatory ergonomics concepts. The physical ergonomic aspects of the GHE was evaluated and validated by the help of digital human modelling and simulation software. The comparative study of the earlier design with new design is as shown in Table-1

CLAIMS
We claim,
1. New designed equipment is economically safe.
2. New equipment is capable of Handling various armaments stores of LCA
3. Pre Survey plays major role while re designing of Ground handling Equipments.
