Abstract: A method for developing medium silicon cold rolled non grain oriented steel (CRNO) comprising: subjecting the steel to continuous casting to make slabs; converting the slabs to sheets by the step of hot rolling at a temperature range of 1200-900°C; subjecting the hot rolled sheets to cold rolling followed by continuous annealing coating the cold rolled and annealed sheets with organic compound.

Specification

FIELD OF INVENTION:
This invention relates to a method for the development of medium silicon cold
rolled oriented steel having magnetization properties.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
It was necessary to optimize the processing parameters and chemistry to ensure
magnetic properties in fully processed electrical steel strips. For this purpose, a
suitable chemistry was decided upon and rolling loads were calculated to ensure
safe rolling of the grades through existing hot rolling mill. The properties of the
fully processed strips at customer's end were also examined with respect to the
selected chemistry for the purpose of optimization.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
An object of this invention is to propose a method for the development of medium
silicon cold rolled non oriented steel;
Another object of this invention is to propose a method for the development of
medium silicon cold rolled non oriented steel with better magnetization
properties;
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The steels were made following the decided chemistry in LD- vacuum degasser
route. Vacuum degassing improves the cleanliness of the steel. The steel made
is subjected to continuous casting to make slabs. The slabs are hot rolled to

sheets. The rolling load in hot strip mill was within the mill capacity. Hot rolled
sheets are subjected to 80 to 85% cold rolling followed by continuous annealing
at 700 to 800°C. The cold rolled and annealed sheets are coated with organic
coating in a continuous coating line. The hot rolled steel strips were processed at
the customers end (cold rolling, continuous annealing and coating) after which
the properties of the fully processed strips were assessed.
