Abstract: The invention pertains to development of skid mounted structure for turbo machinery. Skid is a structural base for mounting of turbo machinery which comprises of channels and standard plates fabricated to sustain the entire load of rotating elements of the machinery including bearings and prime movers and that acts as alternative to concrete foundation and enhancing multiple advantages. Fig.2
The present invention relates to development of skid mounted structure for turbo
machinery.
More particularly the present invention discloses a skid mounted structure which is a
structural base on which the turbo machines are mounted and which sustains the entire
load of rotating elements of the machinery including those of bearings and prime
movers.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Rotating machinery is used as pumps, fans, blowers etc. in various applications such as power plants, paper and sugar mills, cement industries and others. In existing practices, the mounting of these objects are done on concrete foundations built to size. The processes involved in the making of concrete foundations and preparation of concrete mix with the right quantity of constituents, proper casting with adequate soundness and curing.
The lead time involved in casting such a foundation is large and the arrangement is permanent leading to very less margins for change. Also, the enormous costs (direct and indirect) involved warrants a more feasiblealternative.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION
The object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure as an alternative to concrete foundation.
Another object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery that reduces weight of the supporting structure.
Yet another object of the invention isto develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery that enhances the portability of the setup.
A further object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery thatreduces space occupancy.
A still further object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery that is simple in design.
One more object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery that saves time in fabrication and assembly at site.
An additional object of the invention is to develop a skid mounted structure for turbo machinery that ensures low cost in the manufacturing and setting up at site.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to the invention the skid structure is predominantly made using standard plates (4) and channels (2) provided at suitable locations to withstand the static and dynamic loads and vibrations. A set of plates (4) are held together by suitably positioned channels (2). The channels (2) run inclined down the height of the skid, covered across by plates (4).
Another set of channels (2) form the rectangular base. Bolt holes are provided on the top plates (1) and base channels (2) in order to fasten the machinery to the skid and the base of the skid to the floor respectively.
The fabrication of structural elements and fastening to the foundation makes the whole set up time saving and enables relocation if needed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
The figure 1, 2 & 3 depicts top plates (1) at required altitudes at which the fastening elements of the rotating machine is to be positioned. They are supported by channels (2) running slant along the height of the skid. Their locations are in line with that of the bolt holes (3) for efficient ioad transmission. The open area across channels (2) is covered by lateral plates (4). Plates (11) and (12) along with step plate (9) cover the remaining ends. The bottom is strengthened by channels (5) running as base all along the rectangular boundary to impart required rigidity. A mid-plate (10) with stiffener (6) is provided for further stability. Bearing pad (7) and a pair of motor pads (8) are provided to support the bases of bearing housing and motor respectively.
WE CLAIM
1. A skid mounted structure for turbo machinery comprising:
a plurality of lateral plates (4) having a step plate (9) as they moves from motor to bearing side, the said lateral plates (4) welded with top plates (1) and step plate (9) on the top side and channels (5) forming the base structure such that the structure forms slanting surfaces on plates (4) wherein a plurality of channels (2) are welded on to the slanting plates (4) for imparting strength to the structure.
2. The skid mounted structure as claimed in claim 1, wherein the members are provided with bolt holes (3) for fixing the members.
3. The skid mounted structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the top plates (1) are provided with a bearing pad (7) and a pair of motor pads (8) at fixed locations for supporting the bases of bearing housing and motor respectively.
,4. The skid mounted structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the members are made of carbon steel.
5. The skid mounted structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein a mid-plate (10) is provided with a stiffener (6) erected vertically for damping the vibrations.
6. The skid mounted structure as claimed in claim 1 wherein the back plate (11) and front plate (12) cover the ends of the skid.
