Abstract: The present invention provides a device (100) for marking and measuring vertical terminal bend tubes (2) at water wall panels and method thereof. The invention disclosed herein measures the longitudinal dimension of the terminal bend tube (2) directly without requirement of external tape or straight edge. A graduated scale (5) engaged in a scale slider (6) provides the required measurement when the device (100) is positioned on the horizontal tube (10) with the aid of supporting unit (8). The scale slider (6) holding the scale (5) can be slid along the length of the horizontal tube (10) and be fixed with a slide locking screw (7). The proposed device (100) for measuring and marking of vertical terminal bend tube is simple, saves cycle time at marking operation, reduces man power engagement and improves safety in water wall panel fabrication. It ensures 100 % accuracy in marking work with the single manpower.
FIELD OF INVENTION
[001] The present invention narrates to a new marking device for
final marking of the terminal tube ends of water wall panels. More
particularly, the invention relates to a new marking device with
alignment support at the outer surface of a tube for accurate
marking. The invention further relates to avoid the occurrence of
marking errors during the marking at terminal end tube for edge
preparation work, thereby conforming the accuracy of the product,
so that the cycle time can be reduced, quality of the marking can be
improved to simplified method in new marking device.
BACKGROUND AND THE PRIOR ART
[002] The water wall panel manufacturing undergoes various
operations like rework welding, panel diagonal correction, marking,
TIG joint feeding, attachment fit up, edge preparation, stress
relieving and hydraulic test. Marking of end cutting dimension is an
important step, once the cutting is done with the wrong dimension,
it cannot be corrected until we feed it with another TIG joint. The
tube end dimension is so important, because it should match with
another joint in the next matching panel at site. In the elevated
regions the correction is not quit easy. It will take more cycle time
to rectify the rework.
[003] At least three manpower is essential for marking work at
terminal bend tubes. One manpower is required for measuring the
vertical distance of the terminal bend tube from the horizontal tube
centre. 3-meter measuring tape is used for marking the vertical
dimension. Another manpower is necessary to hold the straight
edge in line with centre of the horizontal tube. The centre line of
the horizontal tube is marked by applying the marking media
(chalk powder) on the outer side surface of the tube. Then the
centre line is marked by scribing the straight edge on the
horizontal tube side surface. Another manpower is used for
positioning the measuring tape at the centre of the horizontal tube
through the straight edge and the vertical terminal tube end
dimension is marked with help of try square and scriber.
Problem experienced in prior art
[004] Higher Cycle time: Since the dimensional marking is a
minute task, it needs to follow more procedures like identification
of centre line of the horizontal tube, deployment of straight edge,
3-meter measuring tape and try square. Coordination of all
workers and devices result in long cycle time and hence
productivity decreases.
[005] Operator’s fatigue: since cycle time for each terminal bend
marking is very high, the operator needs to hold all the devices in
unsafe and difficult position. Hence these factors result more
fatigue to the workers.
[006] Delayed Delivery to the Internal Customer: Due to higher
cycle time, it's difficult to meet scheduled work plan and deliver to
the customers in time.
[007] Thus, there was a need to simplify the making method of
terminal bend tube to overcome from the problems faced in the
existing marking method in terminal bend panels. So, it is
necessary to make the marking easier, to reduce the cycle time, to
reduce the fatigue of the workmen and to make the marking work
safer with less manpower.
[008] Extensive search has been made in internet and it has been
found that no such relevant patents found.
OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
[009] It is therefore an object of the present invention to propose a
new device for marking in terminal bend tubes of water wall
panels.
[010] Another object of the present invention is to eliminate excess
manpower used for marking and also to make the marking work
safer with less manpower.
[011] Another object of the present invention is to provide a
simplified and less time consuming process for vertical tube
measurement and marking.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[012] The present invention provides a device and method for
measurement and marking of vertical terminal bend tubes in water
wall panels. As the prior method consumes more time for marking
and at least 3 manpower required for measurement and marking, it
is finally selected an idea that to design and develop the new
measuring and marking device simplification of the marking work.
[013] In an aspect, the device disclosed herein is comprising of a
graduated scale engaged in a scale sider.
[014] In an aspect, the proposed device further comprises a stock
along which the combination of the scale and the scale slider slide
along the length of the tube the device is placed whereupon. A
locking screw helps to fix the position of the slider on the stock. A
supporting unit is provided to place the device on the outer surface
of a horizontal tube.
[015] In an aspect, the device is positioned at a required place on
the horizontal tube and a centre line is marked on the outer surface
of the horizontal tube. Another mark is made on the surface of the
vertical bend tube and the dimension of the marked point on the
vertical bend tube from the centre line is measured with the aid of
the graduated scale embedded in the device.
[016] The factors considered while designing the device have
provision for measuring scale, flexible movement of device for easy
marking, self-aligning of tube centre to obtain the accuracy and user
friendly at vertical terminal bend tube in water wall panel
fabrication.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF
THE PRESENT INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE
ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS
[023] While the embodiments of the disclosure are subject to various
modifications and alternative forms, specific embodiment thereof
have been shown by way of example in the figures and will be
described below. It should be understood, however, that it is not
intended to limit the disclosure to the particular forms disclosed, but
on the contrary, the disclosure is to cover all modifications,
equivalents, and alternative falling within the scope of the
disclosure.
[024] The terms “comprises”, “comprising”, or any other variations
thereof used in the disclosure, are intended to cover a non-exclusive
inclusion, such that a device, system, assembly that comprises a list
of components does not include only those components but may
include other components not expressly listed or inherent to such
system, or assembly, or device. In other words, one or more elements
in a system or device proceeded by “comprises… a” does not, without
more constraints, preclude the existence of other elements or
additional elements in the system or device.
[025] It should be observed that the present invention resides
primarily in a novel and non-obvious combination of hardware
elements and method steps. Accordingly, these elements and steps
have been represented by conventional elements and steps in the
drawings, showing only those specific details that are pertinent to
the present invention so as not to obscure the disclosure with details
that will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art having the
benefit of the description herein.
[026] Prior to the present invention, engagement of at least three
manpower needed during measurement of terminal bend tube for
edge preparation is illustrated in Figure 1.
[027] The present invention discloses a novel device, referring
Figure 2, for measuring and marking of vertical terminal bend tube
(2) in water wall panel fabrication addressing the existing problem.
The invented device (100) comprises a graduated scale (5), a scale
sliding arrangement (6), a slide locking screw (7), a tube supporting
unit (8) and a stock (9) for measuring and marking the dimension of
vertical terminal bend tube (2).
[028] In an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, the
graduated scale (5) is provided for accurate measurement of the
tube (2) from the horizontal tube (10) centre line reference. Because
of this scale provision, there is no need to hold a 3-meter measuring
tape (1) manually by a person. Thus, the manpower requirement for
holding the 3-meter measuring tape (1) is eliminated.
[029] The scale sliding arrangement (6) is provided for easy sliding
during linear movement of the graduated scale (5) along the length
of the horizontal tube (10). Thus, holding of a straight edge (3) in
horizontal tubes (10) centre is avoided. Hence the manpower needed
to hold the straight edge (3) is also avoided.
[030] The slide locking screw (7) is used for locking the scale sliding
arrangement (6) in the required position.
[031] In an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, a tube
supporting unit (8) in designed for accurate positioning of the device
(100) in the horizontal tube (10) centre. It helps to position of the
device (100) exactly at the outer surface of the horizontal tube (10)
in the panel. So the accuracy in marking the dimension in the
vertical terminal bend tube (2) is ensured. The dimension of the
supporting unit (8) can be changed according to the dimension of
the horizontal tube (10).
[032] In an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, a stock
(9) is used along which the combination of scale slider (6) and the
graduated scale (5) slide to the required position along the axial
length of the horizontal tube (10). So the measuring and marking
device (100) disclosed herein performs the marking work with less
manpower and higher safety.
[033] In an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, the
graduated scale (5), the scale slider (6), the slide locking screw (7),
the tube supporting unit (8) and the stock (9) are separately
illustrated in Figure 3 (a)-(e) respectively. The real image of the
proposed device (100) is illustrated in Figure 4.
[034] The device is placed on the outer surface of a horizontal tube
(10) in the water wall panel with the aid of the tube supporting unit
(8). A mark is made with a marker on the vertical tube (2) outer
surface. The scale slider (6) is adjusted to fix the position of the
graduated scale (5) at required place and locked with the aid of the
slide locking screw (7). The required dimension on the vertical
terminal bend tube (2) is measured with the aid of the graduated
scale (5) from a reference centre line on the outer surface of the
horizontal tube (10). The required dimension is marked with a
scriber. The slide lock screw (7) is unlocked to remove the device
(100) from its position. The marked point is punched using dot
punch and hammer and the same procedure is repeated for the next
tube marking and measuring.
[035] Therefore, the design and development measuring and
marking device (100) increases the productivity with quick marking
time, and improves the product quality. The developed measuring
and marking device (100) for marking vertical terminal bend tubes
(2) eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.

[039] In addition, even if a specific number of an introduced claim
recitation is explicitly recited, those skilled in the art will recognize
that such recitation should typically be interpreted to mean at least
the recited number (e.g., the bare recitation of “two recitations,”
without other modifiers, typically means at least two recitations, or
two or more recitations).
[040] It will be further appreciated that functions or structures of a
plurality of components or steps may be combined into a single
component or step, or the functions or structures of one-step or
component may be split among plural steps or components. The
