An apparatus (1) for measuring voltage in a high-voltageenvironment comprising:an electrically isolating-section (2);a pair of spaced apart conductors respectively coupled to firstand second terminals (8, 10) between which a voltagedifference V is to be determined, a first one of said conductorsbeing at a first end of said isolating section and a second one ofsaid conductors (10) being at the second end of said isolatingsection remote from said first end, said ends being adapted tobe electrically connected to said first and second terminalsrespectively;at least one electric field sensor (6) which senses electric fieldat at least one location within or in proximity to said isolatingsection; anda detector (12) for determining a value Vd for said voltagedifference V based on said electric field sensed by said at leastone electric field sensor;the isolating section (2) having a selected electrical resistancecharacteristic so as to provide sufficient shielding to said atleast one location so as to reduce any error in Vd that wouldotherwise arise in the absence of said isolating section due toany external electric field interference sources
