Abstract: The present disclosure provides a device (100) for remote access and control of portable memory. The device (100) includes one or more ports (102) adapted to receive one or more portable memory coupled to the device. The device (100) further includes one or more input keys (104), configured to receive user inputs pertaining to selection of one or more predefined functionalities of the device (100), the functionalities being performed on the information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory by a processing unit (108). A set of features of the portable memory is configured to be displayed on the one or more display units (106), and the information contained/to be contained in the one or more portable memory is transmitted to/from one or more remote computing devices through one or more communication units (110).

The present disclosure relates to the field of portable memory access. More particularly, it relates to a device for facilitating remote access and control of portable memory.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present disclosure. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed disclosure, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art. [0003] Portable memory can be accessed, assessed, reviewed and controlled by physically connecting it to a computing device. This makes sensitive information contained in the portable memory to be vulnerable to cyber threats like virus, phishing and malware attacks. Hence there is need in the art to develop a device that can facilitate remote access and control of portable memory. [0004] Digital information transfer mechanisms including wired and wireless medium have been reported in existing literature. A couple of devices having display facilities and enabled to transfer information directly from one portable memory to another without involving a computing device have been disclosed. However, no solution discloses a device that enables storing/retrieval of information to/from cloud servers. The proposed self-powered device is enabled to determine and display a set of features and operations performed on a portable memory connected to the device. It further enables wireless information transfer between remote computing devices, cloud storage and the portable memory in response to user inputs.
OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT DISCLOSURE
[0005] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfies are as listed herein below.

[0006] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device that
facilitates remote access of information contained in one or more portable
memory.
[0007] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device that
facilitates control of the one or more portable memory without connecting the
portable memory to a computing device.
[0008] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device for
facilitating remote access and control of portable memory that includes one or
more ports enabled to accommodate the one or more portable memory.
[0009] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device for
facilitating remote access and control of portable memory that enables a
processing unit to periodically scan the one or more ports facilitating automatic
detection of the one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports.
[0010] It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a device for
facilitating remote access and control of portable memory that enables one or
more display units to display a set of features of the one or more portable
memory.

facilitating remote access and control of portable memory that enables the user to
perform a set of operations on the information contained in the one or more
portable memory.

receiving user inputs through one or more input keys.

more communication units to transmit/receive information from/to the device
to/from one or more remote computing devices.

SUMMARY

More particularly, it relates to a device for facilitating remote access and control
of portable memory.
[0017] An aspect of the present disclosure pertains to a device that may
facilitate remote access of information contained in one or more portable memory.
[0018] In an aspect, the device may facilitate control of the one or more
portable memory without connecting the portable memory to a computing device.
[0019] In an aspect, the device may include one or more ports that may be
enabled to receive one or more connectors associated with the one or more
portable memory.
[0020] In an aspect, the device may include a processing unit that may be
enabled to periodically scan the one or more ports facilitating automatic detection
of the one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports.

enable in selection of one or more predefined functionalities in response to user

[0040] In an embodiment, the device for facilitating remote access and
control of portable memory (100) (interchangeably known as the device (100) , herewith ) may include one or more ports (102) that may be configured to receive one or more connectors associated with one or more portable memory. In an embodiment, the one or more portable memory may include devices like but not limited to portable memory stick, flash drive, bootable pen drive, portable hard disk drive, rewritable Blu-ray discs, rewritable DVDs and rewritable compact discs. By way of example, the one or more portable memory may contain multimedia information pertaining to documents, images, audios, videos, application programs, and the likes.
[0041] In an exemplary embodiment, the one or more ports (102) may pertain to digital interfaces like but not limited to universal serial bus ports of types A, B, B mini, B micro, C, lightning, serial ports, parallel ports, digital video interface (DVI) ports and VGA ports.
[0042] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more input keys (104) that may be configured to receive user inputs and correspondingly generate a set of signals. In an embodiment, the set of signals may be of the form of electrical signals that may correspond to the one or more input keys pressed/touched/actuated by the user. In an embodiment, the one or more input keys (104) may pertain to tact switches, push switches, touchscreens, touch panels, joysticks, slide switches, rotary switches, buttons with touch sensitive housings and the likes.

By way of example, the one or more predefined functionalities may pertain to accessing size and content of the portable memory, erasing content of the portable memory, formatting the file types of the portable memory, transmitting/receiving information to/from the

portable memory to a remote device, computing operations like copy, paste, renaming files, turn on/off of power supply and the likes.

The set of output signals may correspond to a set of features of the one or more portable memory and a set of predefined operations performed on information stored in the one or more portable memory in response to the user inputs. By way of example, the one or more display units (106) may include terminals like but not limited to computer monitors, portable digital assistants, laptop screen, tablet screen, smartphone display, liquid crystal display, light emitting diode arrays, scrolling displays and flashing displays.
[0045] In an exemplary embodiment, the set of features and operations displayed on the one or more display units (106) may correspond to size of portable memory occupied by the information contained in the one or more portable memory, size of portable memory free to be utilized, file format of the portable memory, information selected for access, review, alteration, deletion, appended information, files to be transmitted from the portable memory to remote computing devices and vice versa and the likes. In an exemplary embodiment, the metadata displayed on the one or more display units (106) may be utilized as visual guidance to the user for further operations.
[0046] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more communication units (110) that may be configured to transmit/receive information from/to the one or more portable memory to/from one or more remote computing devices. In an embodiment, the remote computing device may be any or a combination of devices like but not limited to a computing resource, a computer, a workstation, a laptop, a smartphone, a tablet PC, an industrial asset, a server computer and a cloud based server storage.
[0047] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include one or more communication units (110) that may be configured to transmit/receive information from/to the one or more portable memory to/from the remote computing devices. In an exemplary embodiment, the one or more communication units (110) may be

associated with any or a combination of Wireless local area network (WLAN), Wide area network (WAN), Wireless fidelity (Wi-fi), Bluetooth, Worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), cellular communication network, GSM and the likes. The communication network may be a wireless network, a wired network or a combination thereof that may be implemented as one of the different types of networks, such as Intranet, Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Internet, and the likes. Further, the communication network may either be a dedicated network or a shared network. The shared network may represent an association of the different types of networks that may use variety of protocols, for example, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and the likes. By way of example, the one or more communication units (110) may be implemented through hardware devices like but not limited to Global System for Mobile devices (GSM), Zigbee, Bluetooth devices, infrared devices, modem, Wi-fi router, Ethernet card and the likes.
[0048] In an embodiment, the one or more communication units (110) and the one or more remote computing devices may be selected in any combination based on the user input. In another embodiment, the direction of information transfer may also be determined based on the user input. By way of example, upon receiving a user input at a first button, the device (100) may be configured to transfer information through GSM from the one or more portable memory and a remote smartphone. In another embodiment, upon receiving a user input at a second button, the device (100) may be configured to transfer information through Wi-fi from a remote computer to the one or more portable memory. [0049] In an embodiment, the device (100) may include a processing unit (108) that may be communicatively coupled to the one or more ports (102), the one or more input keys (104), the one or more display units (106) and the one or more communication units (110). In an embodiment, the processing unit (108) may be configured to detect the one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports (102). In another embodiment, the processing unit (108) may be

configured to determine the set of features of the detected one or more portable memory. It yet another embodiment, the processing unit (108) may be configured to determine the selected operation from a set of operations that may be performed on the information contained in the one or more portable memory in response to user inputs received by the one or more input keys (104). In an exemplary embodiment, the processing unit (108) may be enabled to transmit the set of features to the one or more display unit (106) and the multimedia information from/to the one or more portable memory to/from the remote computing device. [0050] FIG. 2 illustrates an exemplary block diagram of the functional components (200) of the processing unit (108) associated with the proposed device (100) for facilitating remote access and control of portable memory, in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0051] In an illustrative embodiment, the processing unit (108) may include one or more processors (202). The one or more processors (202) may be implemented as one or more microprocessors, microcomputers, microcontrollers, digital signal processors, central processing units, logic circuitries, and/or any devices that manipulate data based on operational instructions. Among other capabilities, the one or more processors (202) may be configured to fetch and execute computer-readable instructions stored in a memory (204), operatively coupled to the one or more processors (202). The memory (204) may be configured to store one or more computer-readable instructions or routines, which may be fetched and executed to generate and share data packets over a communication network or channel. The memory (204) may include any non-transitory storage device including, for example, volatile) memory such as RAM, or non-volatile memory such as EPROM, flash memory, and the like. [0052] In an embodiment, the processing unit (108) may also include an interface (206) that can provide a communication pathway among the one or more ports (102), the one or more input keys (104), the one or more display units (106) and the one or more communication units (110) and the one or more processors (202). The interface (206) may also provide a communication pathway between the one or more processors (202) and other functional components of the

processing unit (108) including but not limited to, memory (204) and database (222).
[0053] In an embodiment, the processing engine (208) may include a detection unit (210) that may be configured to automatically detect the one or more portable memory coupled to the one or more ports (102). In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may be enabled to periodically scan the one or more ports (102) for detection of the one or more portable memory. In another embodiment, the attachment of one or more portable memory to the one or more ports (102) may generate an event based trigger signal. In an embodiment, the trigger signal may be a digital signal of Boolean nature.

In an embodiment, the first and the second set of data packets may be in computer readable format.

The third and the fourth set of data packets may be a binary stream of digital signal.

The set of operations may pertain to reading, modifying, erasing, and appending the information contained in the one or more portable

memory. In an exemplary embodiment, the set of operations may generate, a fifth and a sixth set of data packets. The fifth set of data packets may pertain to the set of features of the one or more portable memory and the fifth set of data packets may be transmitted to the one or more display units (106). By way of example, the fifth set of data packets may be displayed as alphanumeric text on the one or more display units (106).
[0057] In an embodiment, the action generation unit (216) may be configured to transmit and/or receive the sixth set of data packets to/from the one or more remote computing devices through the one or more communication units (110). Based on the user input the one or more communication units (110) may be selected and the sixth set of data packets may be stored in one or more remote computing devices. The sixth set of data packets may pertain to multimedia information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory. The fifth and the sixth set of data packets may be a computer readable binary stream. [0058] In an embodiment, the one or more processors (202) may include an alarm generation unit (218) that may be configured to generate a set of alert signals pertaining to a set of critical device status including but not limited to low battery, charging status, completion of a selected operation, one or more portable memory lacking free space for receiving more information, erasing commands issued to an already empty/disconnected portable memory, malfunctions related to retrieval of metadata or formatting of the one or more portable memory and the likes. The alarm generation unit (218) may be configured to generate any or a combination of audible, visible and non-audible alert signals in association with hardware components like a buzzer, a vibration generator, a flashing indicator, a scrolling text display and the likes.

In an exemplary embodiment, such actions may include monitoring of battery status, keeping a record of last five operations, automatic

detection of the one or more portable memory being full to the capacity, keeping a backup of last operation with time stamps and the likes.

The device (100) may include one or more input keys (104) that may be configured to receive user inputs and generate signals pertaining to selection of one or more predefined functionalities, the one or more predefined functionalities pertaining to a set of operations performed by a processing unit (108) on the information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory. A set of features of the portable memory may be configured to be displayed on one or more display units (106). Following the set of operations, the information contained/to be stored in the one or more portable memory may be transmitted from/to one or more remote computing devices to/from the one or more portable memory through one or more communication unit (110).

[0063] In an embodiment, the device (100) may detect one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports (102). Upon detection, the device (100) may be configured to receive input signals from the user through one or more input keys (104). The one or more input keys (104) may include push buttons and touch scroll keys. Based on the user inputs, the processing unit (108) may be enabled to perform a set of operations on the information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory. The set of operations may be stored in one or more memory associated with one or more processors of the processing unit (108).

By way of example, the one or more display units (106) may include indicator light emitting diodes and liquid crystal displays. The information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory may be transmitted from/to the remote computing devices to/from the portable memory through the one or more communication units (110). The one or more communication units (110) may include Wi-fi and GSM units and the one or more communication units (110) and the one or more remote computing devices may be selected by the user using appropriate combination of one or more input keys (104). The device (100) may receive electric power from a power supply unit. The one or more input keys (104) may include a power on/off button that may be operated by the user to connect or disconnect the device (100) with/from the power supply unit. We Claim:

1. A device (100) for facilitating remote access and control of portable memory, the device comprising:
one or more ports (102) enabled to receive one or more connectors wherein the one or more connectors are configured to couple one or more portable memory with said device (100);
one or more input keys (104), configured to receive user inputs, and correspondingly generate a set of signals, wherein the set of signals corresponding to the one or more input keys are enabled in selecting one or more predefined functionalities of the device (100) in response to the received user inputs;
one or more display units (106), configured to display a set of output signals, wherein the set of output signals correspond to a set of features of the one or more portable memory and a set of operations performed on information contained in the one or more portable memory, wherein the set of output signals facilitate in providing visual guidance to the user;
one or more communication units (110), configured to transmit/receive information from/to the device to/from one or more remote computing devices, wherein the one or more remote computing devices are communicatively coupled to the device (100) in response to user inputs;
a processing unit (108), communicatively coupled to the one or more ports (102), the one or more input keys (104), the one or more display units (106) and the one or more communication units (110), wherein, the processing unit (108) comprises one or more processors associated with a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the one or more processors and the one or more processors being configured to:

detect, one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports (102);
receive, a first set of data packets pertaining to the set of signals from the one or more input keys;
extract, a second set of data packets pertaining to selection of one or more predefined functionalities of the device (100) from the received first set of data packets;
compare, the second set of data packets with a third set of data packets and correspondingly generate a fourth set of data packets, wherein the fourth set of data packets pertain to the selected functionality of the device (100) corresponding to the user input; wherein the third set of data packets pertain to a set of predefined functionalities of the device (100), wherein the third set of data packets are stored in a database, operatively coupled to the one or more processors;
generate, a fifth and a sixth set of data packets by performing a set of operations on the information stored/to be stored in the one or more portable memory using the fourth set of data packets, wherein the set of operations pertain to accessing and controlling of the one or more portable memory;
transmit, the fifth set of data packets to one or more display units (106);

2. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the processing unit (108) is configured to periodically scan the one or more ports (102), wherein scanning enables in automatic detection of the one or more portable memory connected to the one or more ports (102).

The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fifth set of data packets relates to a set of features of the portable memory, wherein the set of operations performed by the fourth set of data packets are configured to access and alter the fifth set of data packets and the information stored /to be stored in the one or more portable memory.
4. The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein any or a combination of the one or more communication units (110) and the one or more remote computing devices are selected based on the fourth set of data packets corresponding to user inputs.

The device (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the processing unit (108), the one or more ports (102), one or more input keys (104) , one or more display units (106) , one or more communication units (110) are operatively coupled to a power supply unit, wherein the power supply unit is configured to provide electric power to the device (100), wherein the power supply unit includes any or a combination of batteries, inverters and power lines and wherein, the electric power is of the form of any or a combination of direct current, alternating current and solar current.
