FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank in machine spindle having capability to hold cutters with tanged end taper shank only.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
At present machining on machining centers is being done by using cutters with tanged end taper shank and machining on milling machines is being done by using cutters having tapped hole taper shank as these machines have provision for holding such shank only. So two types of cutters of same size-one with tanged end taper shank and the other with tapped hole taper shank are to be kept in store. This has resulted in increased inventory of tools. As a consequence sometimes holdup in production is faced due to non availability of exact cutter. (Tanged end in place of tapped hole and vice versa).
The present invention is aimed to solve the said difficulties of prior art through suitable means to facilitate undisturbed production with time saving and cost effective features by reducing the inventory of cutters.
-3-
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide a device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank in machine spindle.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank which reduces the inventory of cutters.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank by which shop floor production hold up is avoided.
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the proposed invention there is provided a device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank in machine spindle with provision for holding tanged end taper shank only. The device has a draw bolt fixable on the tapped hole taper shank, a wedge fixable on draw bolt through screw, a sleeve fitted between machine spindle taper and cutter taper shank in case it is needed.
-4-
According to the invention there is provided a device for holding cutters with tapped hole taper shank in machine spindle having capability to hold tanged end taper shank cutters only comprising of:
a) a draw bolt consisting of a fixable on tapped hole of taper shank of cutter
having a threaded hole for fixing of wedge and a taper surface for seating
of wedge,
b) a wedge fixable on draw bolt by hole via screw and having a taper
surface for seating on taper surface of draw bolt,
c) a sleeve being adapted in register relationship of its external taper to
taper of machine spindle and internal taper to cutter taper shank.
The proposed invention will be better understood by the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 shows in sectional elevational view of the device for holding cutters on machine spindle according to present invention.
-5-
Figure 2 represents a view from the direction of A of Fig. 1 wherein it shows the device for holding cutters on machine spindle according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Figure 3(a) in elevationai and plan view shows the machine spindle taper. Figure 3(b) in elevational view shows cutter with tanged end taper shank. Figure 3(c) in elevational view shows cutter with tapped hole taper shank.
Figure 1 shows the device for holding cutters which comprises of a draw bolt (1) fixed on cutter with tapped hole taper shank (5). The draw bolt (1) has a taper surface (SI) for seating of wedge (2) and has threaded portion for fitting on tapped hole (H2) of taper shank cutter (5). A wedge (2) is fixed on draw bolt (1) via threaded hole (HI) and has a taper surface (S2) for seating of taper surface (SI) of draw bolt (1). A sleeve (4) with outer taper matching to machine spindle taper and inside taper suiting to cutter shank taper is fitted in machine spindle (6) for cutter fitting. Thickness of draw bolt (1) and wedge (2) is according to cotter slot width (W) of machine spindle.
-6-
Figure 3(b) shows the tang (7) of tanged end of taper shank cutter. Fig. 3(c) shows the tapped hole end of taper shank cutter fitted into the said device. The device is therefore developed to hold cutters with tapped hole taper shank in machine spindle having capability to hold tanged end taper shank cutters only.
Though the invention has been illustrated as hereinbefore with one exemplary embodiment, the invention should not be read and construed in a restrictive manner, as some modifications, alternations and adaptations for holding the tapped hole taper shank cutters are possible within the scope and limit of the invention, as defined in the encompassed appended claims.
