Abstract: According an embodiment, the present disclosure provides a device for segregating objects in limited illumination. A device for segregating objects in limited illumination comprises an imaging device to capture one or more images of one or more objects in the limited illumination environment. An image processing unit operatively coupled to the imaging device, the processing unit comprising a processor coupled to a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to extract one or more features of the captured one or more images, wherein the one or more features pertains to visual features of the captured one or more images, identify the one or more objects from the captured one or more images by detection of edges of the one or more objects based on the extracted one or more features and responsive to the identified one or more objects, determine extent of diffusion for each of the identified one or more objects to enable segregation of the identified one or more objects based on the determined extent of diffusion to enable recognition of the object in the limited illumination environment.

TECHNICAL FIELD
The present disclosure generally relates to a device for identifying objects in
limited illumination. More particularly, the present disclosure pertains to a device for segregating objects in limited illumination.

BACKGROUND
Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the
present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.

Imaging is a method of improving the visibility of an obj ect in a dark environment by
detecting an object's infrared radiation and creating an image based on that information. Imaging, near-infrared illumination, low-light imaging and are three most commonly used night vision technologies. Unlike the other two methods, imagery works in environments without any ambient light. Like near-infrared illumination, imaging can penetrate obscurants such as smoke, fog and haze. For example, objects emit infrared energy (heat) as a function of their temperature, infrared energy that is being emitted by an object is also known as its heat signature. Generally, the hotter an object is, the more radiation it emits, an imager is essentially a heat sensor that is capable of detecting tiny differences in temperature. The device collects infrared radiation from objects in and creates an electronic image based on information about temperature differences because objects are rarely precisely same temperature as other objects around them, a camera can detect them, and they will appear as distinct in an image.

In image processing and computer vision, anisotropic diffusion, also called Perona-
Malik diffusion, is a technique aiming at reducing image noise without removing significant parts of the image content, typically edges, lines or other details that are important for the interpretation of the image. Anisotropic diffusion resembles a process that creates a scale space, where an image generates a parameterised family of successively more and more blurred images based on a diffusion process. Images may contain variations in intensity which are introduced by light source used to illuminate subject and/or scene composing image. These intensity variations may be undesirable because not only can they be visually distracting and reduce aesthetic quality of an image, but they may also pose difficulties for various types of image processing algorithms, such as algorithms used for automatic facial recognition. Conventional anisotropic diffusion (AD) techniques may be used for edge-preserving noise reduction in image data. AD algorithms may remove noise from an image by modifying image through application of partial differential equations.
[005] Image and video processing is an indispensable research field in real-time utility
applications needed in society. In recent years, image processing techniques are playing a vital
role in public safety and applications such as detection, measurements, editing, tracking,
recognition, effects, feature extractions, and machine vision, where videos and images acquired
by standard camera are considered. However, imagery obtained from the standard camera does
not provide relevant results for all kinds of image processing procedures, particularly in night
vision and low contrast image/videos. Henceforth, detecting living things (life-forms) through a
standard camera is a critical problem in night vision devices. As concern to an expensive and
handy tool, Infrared (IR) camera is not feasible and can't be afforded in all cases.
[006] An existing technique, night vision system, was invented using the Infrared (IR)
camera for public safety which provided in the condition of darkness, smoke, haze, and bad weather. Subsequently, many image converters were invented using IR camera for night vision visibility. Hence, few devices were developed using image processing techniques for night vision image visibility, making device costly due to the infrared camera. In another existing technique, night vision image is processed by image processing techniques for a motor vehicle where image was obtained by the standard camera via an optical sensor which is sensitive in visible range and in near-infrared. Furthermore, the standard camera enhances raw night vision image into a visible image for a viewer using image sharpening and contrast-enhancing techniques. However, the camera shows an actual view of road, in front of a vehicle, but fails to detect humans in a vehicle.
[007] There is, therefore, a need in the art to provide a night vision device that overcomes
the above-mentioned and other limitations of the existing solutions and utilize techniques, which are robust, accurate, fast, efficient, cost-effective and simple.

OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT DISCLOSURE
[008] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein
satisfies are as listed herein below.
[009] An object of the present disclosure is to provide a night vision device.
[0010] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide a night vision device for
detecting living objects in limited illumination.
[0011] Another aspect of the present disclosure provides a night vision device using existing
cameras.
[0012] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide a night vision device that is
robust and easy to implement.
[0013] Another object of the present disclosure is to provide a night vision device as public
safety during night time.
SUMMARY
[0014] The present disclosure generally relates to a device for identifying objects in limited illumination. More particularly, the present disclosure pertains to a device for segregating objects in limited illumination.
[0015] In an aspect, the present disclosure provides a device for segregating objects in limited illumination. The device includes: an imaging device to capture one or more images of one or more objects in the limited illumination environment; and an image processing unit operatively coupled to the imaging device, the processing unit comprising a processor coupled to a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to: extract one or more features of the captured one or more images, wherein the one or more features pertains to visual features of the captured one or more images; identify the one or more objects from the captured one or more images by detection of edges of the one or more objects based on the extracted one or more features; responsive to the identified one or more objects, determine extent of diffusion for each of the identified one or more objects to enable segregation of the identified one or more objects based on the determined extent of diffusion to facilitate recognition of the object in the limited illumination environment.

[0016] In an embodiment, the imaging device is selected from a group comprising of a
standard camera, a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera, a single-lens
reflex (DSLR) camera, and a camera.
[0017] In an embodiment, the device comprises a display unit for displaying the segregated
one or more object.
[0018] In an embodiment, the device comprises a set of batteries to power the imaging
device, the image processing unit and the display unit.
[0019] Another aspect of the present disclosure provides a method for segregating objects in
limited illumination. The method includes the steps of: capturing, by an imaging device, one or
more images of one or more objects comprises extracting, by one or more processor of a
processing unit operatively coupled to the imaging device, one or more features from the
captured one or more images, wherein the one or more features associated with the one or more
objects captured; identifying, by the one or more processors, the one or more objects from the
captured one or more images by detection of edges of the one or more objects; and responsive to
the identified one or more objects, determining, by the one or more processors, extent of
diffusion for each of the identified one or more objects to enable segregation of the identified one
or more objects based on the determined extent of diffusion.
[0020] In an embodiment, each of the segregated one or more objects are colour coded
based on the determined extent of diffusion to facilitate recognition of the object in limited
illumination.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0038] FIG. 1A illustrates a block diagram of a night vision device in accordance with an
embodiment of the present disclosure.
[0039] In an embodiment, the night vision device 104can include an image capturing device
104 operatively coupled with processing unit 108, memory unit 110, controller 102-a, 102-b, 102-
cand battery 106. The processing unit 108 can be operatively coupled with a display unit 112 for
displaying different type of images including but not limited to normal image. An image
capturing device 104 such as captured image undergoes normalization. Further, after
normalization the processing unit 108 can receive captured image/video, and further using
diffusion technique images of objects of the captured image are segregated on basis of detection
of edges of objects. Processing unit 108 based on identification of edges of objects of the
image/video, converts the image/video into an image for differentiating elements of image into
various colours, output of detection can be viewed on thin-film transistor liquid crystal display
(TFT-LCD) 118.

[0040] In an embodiment, the device for segregating objects in limited illumination 104 includes image capturing device 104 such as standard camera, or complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera, single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera, camera, and scanner. An image capturing device 104can include an optical instrument to capture still images or to record moving images, which are stored in a physical medium such as in a memory unit 110. The image capturing device 104 provides a captured input image/video, said the captured input image/video may also be an image created through any known synthetic techniques, such as computer-generated animation, or may be a combination of data which can be acquired via memory unit 110. The input captured image/video may first undergo normalization, said normalization can process the captured image/video so it has a greater degree of compatibility and overall performance of image processing method with the devicel04.
[0041] In an embodiment, the devicel04 can include processing unit 108. The processing unit 108 can execute instructions and perform calculations on image data based upon computing instructions. The processing unit 108 containing executable instructions, and image data, can be stored wholly or partially in memory unit 110, and transferred to the processing unit 108 over a database. An image processing unit 108 operatively coupled to the imaging device 104, the processing unit 108 comprising a processor 118 coupled to a memory 110, said memory 110 stores instructions executable by the processor 118 to extract features of the captured images, said features pertains to visual features of the captured images to identify the objects from the captured images by detection of edges of the objects based on the extracted features. Responsive to the identified objects by determining extent of diffusion 112 for each of the identified objects to enable segregation of the identified objects based on the determined extent of diffusion to enable recognition of the object in the limited illumination environment.
[0042] In an embodiment, the device 104comprises of diffusion process 112. The processor 118 of a processing unit 108can be operatively coupled to the imaging device 104features from the captured images, said features associated with the objects captured identified by the processors. The objects from the captured images by detection of edges of the objects being responsive to the identified objects determining by the processors 118, extent of diffusion 112 for each of the identified objects to enable segregation of the identified objects based on the determined extent of diffusion 112.

The TFT-LCD 118 can be operatively coupled with controllers such as On/Off 102-c, mode 102-b, and save 102-a, wherein mode helps user to configure settings of the TFT-LCD 118 such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, backlight etc. The save controller enables the user to save the image or normal image in the memory unit 110 of the device for segregating objects in limited illuminationl04.
[0045] In an embodiment, night vision device 1 (Muses lithium-ion batteries 106 for holding a huge amount of energy in small space that keeps the device in operative condition. The battery 106can be configured with the image capturing device 104, processing unit 108, controllers 102-a, 102-b, 102-c and TFT-LCD 118 for supplying power continuously for capturing real-time images by the image capturing device 104, processing the captured image and segregating image elements between various colours.

We Claim:

A device for segregating objects in limited illumination, said device comprising:
an imaging device to capture one or more images of one or more objects in the limited illumination environment; and
an image processing unit operatively coupled to the imaging device, the processing unit comprising a processor coupled to a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to:
extract one or more features of the captured one or more images, wherein the one or more features pertains to visual features of the captured one or more images;
identify the one or more objects from the captured one or more images by detection of edges of the one or more objects based on the extracted one or more features; and
responsive to the identified one or more objects, determine extent of diffusion for each of the identified one or more objects to enable segregation of the identified one or more objects based on the determined extent of diffusion to enable recognition of the object in the limited illumination environment.
2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the imaging device is selected from a group comprising of a standard camera, a complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera, a single-lens reflex (DSLR) camera, and a camera.
3. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device comprises a display unit for displaying the segregated one or more object.
4. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the device comprises a set of batteries to power the imaging device, the image processing unit and the display unit.
5. The night vision device as claimed in claim 1, wherein device comprises controllers such as ON/OFF, mode and save.
6. A method for segregating objects based on diffusion, said method comprising:
capturing, by an imaging device, one or more images of one or more objects;

extracting, by one or more processor of a processing unit operatively coupled to the imaging device, one or more features from the captured one or more images, wherein the one or more features associated with the one or more objects captured;
identifying, by the one or more processors, the one or more objects from the captured one or more images by detection of edges of the one or more objects; and
responsive to the identified one or more objects, determining, by the one or more processors, extent of diffusion for each of the identified one or more objects to enable segregation of the identified one or more objects based on the determined extent of diffusion. 7. The method as claimed in claim 6, wherein each of the segregated one or more objects are colour coded based on the determined extent of diffusion to facilitate recognition of the object in limited illumination.
