Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a device (100) to detect medical condition of a woman in pregnancy especially gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypothyroidism. The device (100) facilitates in connecting the woman with a healthcare professional using an interface provided on the device (100). The device include an input unit (106) configured to receive medical information such as medical reports and values of health parameters. Further, the received medical information can be analysed, and upon detection of any health parameter beyond a pre-defined range, a health professional is notified that check medical condition of the woman and correspondingly recommend ne medications, diet and exercise.
The present disclosure relates to the field of healthcare. More
specifically, the present invention relates to a device for detecting medical condition in pregnancy such as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and hypothyroidism, and correspondingly providing recommendations to minimise risk.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Background description includes information that may be useful in
understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the
information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed
invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[0003] The use of mobile devices in health care settings has transformed
many aspects of clinical practice. Mobile phones have become common place in health care settings. Numerous apps are now available to assist HCPs with many important tasks, such as: information and time management, health record maintenance and access, communications and consulting, reference and information gathering, patient management and monitoring, clinical decision-making, and medical education and training. As better health outcomes become the ultimate goal of the health care service provides i.e. hospitals and healthcare professionals.
[0004] The prevalence of chronic diseases during pregnancy increased
from 3.71% to 15.76%, and all maternal age groups are showing increasing prevalence. The most prevalent maternal chronic diseases are hypothyroidism and gestational diabetes mellitus. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a known medical condition in pregnancy, where the mother exhibits higher than normal blood glucose levels. GDM may have adverse health effects for both mothers and neonate when the blood glucose level is not controlled. Therefore, there is a need to develop new devices and processes for identifying mothers at risk for GDM so preventative efforts may be taken as early as possible.
[0005] In addition, Pregnancy causes major changes in the levels of
hormones made by the thyroid gland, located in the front of the neck. For that
reason, thyroid problems sometimes can start or get worse during pregnancy or
after childbirth, and if left untreated, maternal hypothyroidism poses a risk for
both mother and baby. A pregnant woman's thyroid hormones are vital not only
for her but also for the development of her baby. Pregnant woman with
uncontrolled hypothyroidism may get high blood pressure, anemia (low red blood
cell count), and muscle pain and weakness. There is also an increased risk of
miscarriage, premature birth (before 37 weeks of pregnancy), or even stillbirth.
[0006] Existing devices used in healthcare are not efficient for woman
they need to visit to hospital for physical examinations, medications most of the time. Therefore, there is a need of a device that may assist woman at home, without visiting hospital frequently.
[0007] There is, therefore, a need of a device to obviate above-mentioned
problem, by identifying hypothyroidism and gestational diabetes mellitus in a patient at an early stage and reduce the risk of medical conditions.
