Abstract: The present invention discloses devices for preparing grindle yarn and process of preparing grindle yarn on air jet spinning machine and/or vortex spinning machine.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to devices for preparing a grindle yarn.
The present invention further relates to devices for preparing a grindle yarn and
process of preparing a grindle yarn on air jet spinning and/or vortex spinning
machine.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART OF THE INVENTION
Definitions-
“Yarn” is a long continuous length of interlocked fibres, suitable for use in the
production of textiles, sewing, crocheting, knitting, weaving, embroidery, and rope
making. Thread is a type of yarn intended for sewing by hand or machine.
Yarns can be produced in different sizes and texture, and also vary in other
characteristics. Performance and end use of the fabric are affected by these yarn
characteristics.
Grindle yarn is a two-ply special effect yarn made of two colors. Grindle yarns are
also called ‘Twisted Yarns’. Two yarns in different colors are twisted together.
Among these two colors, one color will be in lighter shade and the other will be in
darker shade. After the twisting, the yarn will be in a different mixing shade.
Air-jet spinning is the latest in a string of technological developments intended to
increase production speed and flexibility. This technique is also known as fasciated
yarn spinning. Air-jet spinning system which consists of a 4-over-4 high-speed roller
drafting unit.
Vortex spinning technology was introduced by Murata Machinery Ltd. Japan in
1997. This technology is best explained as a development of air-jet spinning, making
3
use of air jets for yarn twisting. The main features of Murata vortex spinning (MVS)
are
• Ability to produce yarn at 400 m/min. which is almost 20 times greater than
ring spinning frame production.
• Low maintenance costs, a fully automated piecing system and elimination of
roving frame.
• The yarn and the fabric properties of MVS yarn are claimed by the
manufacturer to be comparable to those of ring spun yarn
Normal yarn (Figure 5) can be prepared by air jet spinning wherein, one sliver feds
through trumpet and fiber fleece of single color feds into drafting through single slot
condenser. After drafting fine fleece comes out of front roller and yarn spun through
air jet nozzle or vortex (Figure 3). Thus the process produces yarn of one color.
Presently grindle yarns are made by twisting two colored yarns together on
doubling machine or by feeding two colors roving on ring frame spinning
machine. However, there is no technique invented for preparing grindle yarn
by air jet spinning and/or by vortex spinning.

The conventional process of preparing double twisted grindle yarn includes
following steps-
- Fibers are open in blow room;
- These open fibers are fed to card to individualize the fiber to make sliver;
- The carding sliver is pass through to process of draw frames to make fiber
more uniform and parallel;
- Draw frame sliver is fed to roving machines to make more uniform twisted

- Roving bobbing are fed on ring frame to spun yarn;
- Ring yarn on small bobbin of approx 55 gms are wound on cone of more
than 2 kgs;
- Two yarn of different colure are twisted on assembly winding machine;
- Two parallel yarns are twisted/ two for one (TFO) twisted to make grindle

Conventionally, grindle yarns were produced only by doubling machine. Grindle
yarns produced by doubling machines have many disadvantages listed as-
• tendency to snarl;
• higher number of fibers needed in yarn cross-section;
• difficulty of keeping spinning conditions constant;
• high energy ( power ) consumption;
• Additional process of twisting after spinning
• Higher man power Required
• Higher wastage of single yarn
The present invention provides devices with unique technical features to
prepare grindle yarn on air jet spinning and/or vortex spinning machines.
Advantage of this invention is directed to a simple short cut process and cost
effective devices and process of preparation of grindle yarn on air jet spinning
machines and/or vortex spinning machines.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The present invention will now be described according to preferred but non limiting
embodiments and with reference to the accompanying illustrations.
According to the invention double slot trumpet (100) is designed to feed two type
(color) slivers. The trumpet (100) is designed in such a way that two slivers run
smoothly and fed in such a way that they do not mix up with each other. Further
double slot condenser (101) is developed to keep both the fiber fleece separate in
drafting zone of machine.
According to the one embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 describes the trumpet
(100) with double slot for producing grindle yarn. Figure 1A describes the trumpet
10
is divided internally in two parts (100A and 100B) by creating a wall (100C) at
center of trumpet. In this trumpet (100) two different color or two different type of
fiber sliver are fed (Figure 4). Further Figure 2 describes the condenser (101) with
double slot (101A and 101B) to segregate two color fleece. Fiber fleece of two color
is drafted separately through double slot condenser (Figure 4). These two fleece are
drafted separately and parallel in drafting due to double slot condenser (101). This
two color fleece come out of drafting and yarn is spun through air jet nozzle or
vortex nozzle (Figure 4). The yarn thus prepred is grindle yarn.
According to another embodiment of the invention, a process of preparing a grindle
yarn is described.
The process of preparing a grindle yarn on air jet spinning and/or vortex spinning
machine comprises of following stepsa)
opening of two different color fibers in blow room;
b) feeding the open fibers to card to individualize the fibers to make
slivers;
c) Passing of carding sliver through three process of draw frames to
make fiber more uniform and parallel, resulting into two different
color slivers;
d) feeding of two different color or two different type of fiber sliver
through double slot trumpet;
e) drafting of fiber fleece of two color separately through double slot
condenser;
f) formation of grindle yarn (104).
Embodiment of the present invention is applicable over a wide number of uses and
other embodiments may be developed beyond the embodiment discussed here to
before. Only the most preferred embodiments and their uses have been described
11
herein for purpose of example, illustrating the advantages over the prior art obtained
through the present invention; the invention is not limited to these specific
embodiments or their specified uses. Thus, the forms of the invention described
herein are to be taken as illustrative only and other embodiments may be selected
without departing from the scope of the present invention. It should also be
understood that additional changes and modifications, within the scope of the
invention, will be apparent to one skilled in the relevant field and that various
