Digital Mini Drafter

Abstract: Mini-drafter is one of the indispensable tool which is used to draft engineering drawings. The traditional or existing minidrafter consists of a right angled scale which is used to draw parallel lines or perpendicular lines. However, it lacks any system for drawing angular lines in high precision. The proposed invention aims at integrating a digital interface for the angular measurement of lines of high angular precision can be drawn using this digital mini- drafter. The components for the mini-drafter are parallelogram bars, pivot plate, fixing clamp with screw, Scale, Locking knob, Digital Interface with LED Display, Scale and Traversing head, a rotary transducer and a linear transducer.

Specification

Claims:1. This invention consists of parallelogram bars (1), pivot
plate (2), fixing clamp with screw (3), Scale (4), Locking
knob (5), Digital Interface with LED Display (6),
Protractor (7) and Traversing head (8), a rotary transducer
(9) and a linear transducer (10).
2. The traversal head (8) is movable along the length of
the scale. This movement is converted into voltage and
again converted into digital signals using ADC convertor.
3. The scale (4) consists of a projection at zero mark
which is used as reference from which the traversal of
the traversal head (8) is measured which is calibrated
into the length or linear measurement.
4. The locking knob (5) consists of a rotary transducer (9)
which when rotated converts the angular movement into
voltage and is again converted into digital signals using
ADC.
5. The Digital interface with LED Display (6) is attached
on the locking knob (5) which displays two informations.,
viz., Length and angle. The angle is measured by
rotating the protractor (7) which is attached to the locking
knob (5).
6. The Power for the digital interface (6) is supplied
through a Lithium-ion cell which is integrated with the
digital interface. , Description:The technical aspect adopted in this utility model is a kind of
digital interface and feedback for the measurements so as to
maintain accuracy while drafting (whether the person is right
handed or left handed). This digital interface minimises the
errors in particular parallax errors which may frequently
occur during the drafting process. The digital interface gives
the feedback for not only the linear measurements but also
for angular measurements as well.

Figure. 1 and 2 shows the Digital mini drafter and the digital
interface with LED display. The components of the Digital-
Mini drafter are parallelogram bars (1), pivot plate (2), fixing
clamp with screw (3), Scale (4), Locking knob (5), Digital
Interface with LED Display (6), Scale (7) and Traversing
head (8). The reference for linear measurement is kept at zero
marking of both vertical and horizontal scale. The digital interface
with LED display is attached to the locking knob
wherein it will display the angular measurement also. The
power required for LED display is supplied through a cell.
The provision is given for the battery at the side of the digital
interface itself. For linear measurement, the principle of
LVDT is used. The traversing head (8) which when moved
linearly, creates a difference in voltage which is calibrated
into the length and displayed in the digital interface display.
Similarly, the angular measurement is measured by a rotary
transducer attached to the locking knob (5) which in turn is
calibrated to the angle of rotation.
