THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the entertainment industry and ,in particular, to a simulation motion system adapted for auditorium and like audio visual presentations which would favour influencing its viewers through five senses including sight, sound, feel, smell and touch. In the simulation system according to the invention the viewers can thus be exposed to preferential extra dimensional experience of viewing and hearing audio-visual presentation including that of the entertainment industry such as cinema involving powerful extra-dimensional experience such as powerful 70 mm visuals, traveling sound, feel, smell and touch even from a normal 35 mm cinemascope film shot by normal camera. Advantageously, the value addition to viewers entertainment through the simulation motion system of the invention would also favour combating video and DVD menace. The invention is thus directed to serve the audience in auditoriums/theatres with greater pleasure and entertainment options and would serve the entertainment industry to meet the present day challenges and needs of the industry in the digital age.
BACKGROUND ART
It is well known that the best source of entertainment ever for mankind had been the cinema. Initially, cinema as a form of entertainment started with silent visuals and later sound was added to such visuals to impart added life and character to cinema for entertainment. Also, the initial introduction of audio-visual cinema was devoid of any color photography and was simply documented in black & white films.
Subsequently, with growing needs in the industry provide color films/cinema, color photography and filming was developed which added further to the entertainment of viewers of cinema and like audio-visual presentations.
The continuing demands in the industry especially the viewers to have better lively experience while viewing cinema and like in auditoriums/theatres lead to the further development of better sound and visual effects popularly known as special effects which were added to create curiosity and greater interest amongst the viewers of cinema and like. So much so that even 3D effects were added and 3D cinemas were introduced with great success at the box office.
Importantly, even considering the above advancements in the entertainment industry especially in relation to cinema, so far cinema has been successful in influencing its viewers through the two senses of sight and sound and not beyond that. Considering that human mind and body is sensitive to some other senses as well such as feel, smell and touch, it is desirable if the flavour of such additional senses can also be dished out to the audiences in auditoriums/theatres viewing cinema it could add to the entertainment of the viewers.
Moreover, it is also experienced that of late, the video and DVD have been affecting the cinema industry by providing cheaper alternative to viewing of cinema in auditoriums/theatres. Considering that cinema today is limited to senses of sight and sound, it has been very easy for the video and DVD sector to replicate the entertainment of cinema readily and cheaply thereby affecting the entertainment industry especially the cinema industry. There has thus been a continuing need to
develop means to counter such video and DVD menace and restore the special pride and pleasure of watching movies in auditoriums/theatres/cinema halls. Added to the above since, as stated above, the human senses are sensitive to senses beyond simple sound and sight, it has always been the need for quality film makers to try generate special effects to influence the viewers through activating the viewer senses to the best possible manner utilizing the limited scope of activating such senses limited visual and sound effects. Thus, if means are provided to add to the visual flavour of viewing a cinema by adding to the basic senses of sight and sound it is possible to favour film makers with wider options to entertain the viewers.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is thus the basic objects of the present invention to provide a simulation motion system/5-dimensional auditorium which would provide for the first time additional dimensions to influence the viewers of audio-visual presentations such as cinema and the like beyond the basic senses of sight and sound and in the process favour adding value to such audio-visual presentations/movies and the like.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a simulation motion system/5-dimensional effect auditorium which would enable the viewers to feel and be influenced through film viewing the additional senses of feel, smell and touch thereby providing for a very special and unique experience for the viewers of audio-visual presentations especially cinema.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a simulation motion system/5-dimensional effect auditorium adapted to influence the viewers apart from the basic senses of sight and sound with the experience of film viewing with influence of additional senses of feel, smell and touch whereby effects like powerful 70 mm visuals, traveling sound, feel, smell and touch from even a normal 35 mm cinemascope film shot by normal camera in a normal way.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a simulation motion system/5-dimensional effect auditorium which would be adapted to influence the viewers through all the five senses of sight, sound, feel, smell and touch and thus provide for the viewers something special beyond the viewing of any present day audio-visual sense based communication through cinema.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a simulation motion system/5-dimensional effect auditorium which would favour entertaining the viewers in auditoriums/theatres with audio-visual presentation extending the influences of the viewers to extra dimensional experience by way of, feel, smell and touch in relation to the cinema/movie on screen which could provide for avoiding the present day menace caused by cheap quality video and DVD as an alternative to the conventional cinema.
Another object of the present invention is directed to the provision of simulation motion system/5-dimensional effect auditorium which would enable the film makers and producers of films to meet the present day ever growing needs of viewers of
cinema and like to be exposed to special effects and experiences which would be unique and memorable and therebyt provide for better and improved creativity and scope in the world of cinema.

EXEMPLARY DEMONSTRATION SCRIPT
Night:
Exterior Street.
An isolated street at night. Off field sound of distant barking dogs. The sound of a passing vehicle. The sound of clock striking. From distance we see an approaching car which goes off field from left of camera. Sound of his footsteps can be heard. We cut to his close. He is a young man about 30 years of age. He is the main protagonist in the film. He stops, takes out a cigarette and lights it. Taking a long puff he starts walking again. Camera tracks back with him. Now and then we hear off field sounds of vehicles passing through other streets. Suddenly there is a sound of someone shouting. Hero stops and locks towards the sound. Some ruffians have cornered a businessman near a car and are demanding that he hand over the brief case to them. The businessman refuses to part with it. The door to his car is open and the headlights are on. The businessman is struggling to save his briefcase and the hero is looking on from a distance. One of the goons takes a knife and stabs the
man. He falls to the ground bleeding. The hero reacts with a surprised sound. The killer looks at the hero and rushes towards him, as he has witnessed the murder. The hero runs away with the killer in hot pursuit, they run through empty streets. At one point the killer takes aim and chucks the knife at the hero. He ducks and the knife falls with a cluttering sound onto the street. Hero looks at the knife on the street and at the killer. Killer approaches him. The hero realizes the danger he is in and runs into a dark alley. The killer does not notice the hero ducking into the alley and runs straight ahead. During the entire sequence we show only incidental sounds and music in a normal way.
WE DO NOT USE D-4 EFFECTS. We want the audience to settle down and get involved with the film and the story unfolding on the screen.
Night
Different Street.
Hero comes running and stops near the corner of a lane. He is panting and tired. He
looks back at the lane he has come from. It is empty. He looks up. There is a small
stairway leading to an apartment on the first floor. He climbs it and opens the door
and enters the flat.
Night
Flat.
Hero enters the room and closes the door. He switches on the light. The face of the
hero in close up, he looks scared. He latches the door and moves forward. The room
is small. There is a cot in the centre of the room and a glass window on one wall
facing the street. The streetlight is falling into the room through the window. A small
time piece near the cot is making a clicking sound.
Long Shot - Hero moves towards the cot and sits on it.
Night
Street.
The street down is empty. The clock strikes one. A low angle shot of the apartment
on the first floor. We see light streaming in from the window. The hero moves across
the dosed window and the light is switched off.
Night
Room.
Hero sits on the cot adjusts the pillow and gets into the covers. He closes his eyes.
We stay on this shot for some time. We hear some off field sounds. Shot of the
closed door from inside the room. Hero is sleeping.
Night
Exterior of staircase.
The killer is struggling to insert the knife into the narrow gap of the door.
Night
Room.
The knife in the narrow gap of the door. It's trying to lift the latch. Hero is fast
asleep. Knife lifting the latch. The latch falls and the door opens. Close up of the
killers face.
Long shot. The killer moves towards the cot and bends over the hero. He is holding
the knife in his hand. There is total silence. The only sound we can hear is of the
ticking of the clock. Hero's close. He is still sleeping.
Low angle. Killer lifts the knife to strike. He is about to stab the hero. Hero opens his
eyes and looks at the killer.
Long shot. With a loud scream, hero pushes the killer, rushes towards the window
and dives through it.
Low angle. We see the hero falling down in slow motion with all the shattered glass
pieces falling around him. (Now we add 4-D effects. We feed the sound of scream
and breaking of glass window from screen to effects speakers in the theatre.)
Hero lands on the ground. Glass pieces fall on him. Hero looks up at the window and
runs away into the street.
(We hold this shot till hero disappears. The sounds of passing vehicles and other
incidental sounds of barking dog, distant train whistle and music of scene in effects
speakers.)
Night
Railway Station.
A taxi crosses the field. Camera zooms back from the railway station building. Hero
runs towards the station.
Platform:
The train is about to start. Camera pans left. Hero comes down the staircase. The train starts moving. Hero comes running and jumps into the compartment. The sound of guard's whistle and trains whistle in effects speakers from corner of the theatre. When the train starts moving the screeching sound of metal wheels running on track be heard from the lower row of speakers on the right side wall of the theatre. As the wheels move sparks can be seen in the theatre itself, and the individual metallic sound moves from screen to the back of the theatre to the right side wall of the theatre. The illusion as if the audience is standing on the platform and the train is moving.
Compartment.
The compartment is empty. Hero looks around. Goes to a comer seat and sits down. Train picks up speed. We hear the sound of train's movement, changing tracks sound from under the seat of the theatre and other sounds like ringing bells sound, sound of another train passing from side.
Hero still looks at the entrance to the train and heaves a sigh of relief as he sees
none entering and the train gathering speed. Over the hero's head we see an empty
compartment. Hero's body is moving in rhythm to the movement of the train.
We hold the scene for sometime. All the effects sounds are going on. With the visual
of the hero swinging, the seat of the audience in the theatre also moves in a slight
swinging motion, giving the audience the feel that they too are in the train
compartment.
Night
Mid long shot.
Train approaching and crossing the field from right. With the whistle of the train from
screen to right side effects speakers the sound effect is moved before the train on
the screen can go out of frame. We cut in blur.
Compartment.
Camera blur pans and killers face appears in close. Hero is sitting in corner with closed eyes. Killer moves forward. Sound track of changing tracks or of train crossing over a bridge. The sound effect will be from speakers under the seat. Hero opens his eyes and finds the killer in front of him. Killer pounces on him. Hero rushes to the door and tries to jump out. A glittering light charges on camera. Hero pulls himself inside the coach. There is a blow of air on the hero's face.
The glittering light is the engine light of another train heading in the opposite direction. It appears with loud sound of whistle and engine and as it goes out field. The sound in effects speakers also travels from screen to sidewalls to back side. As the train appears and passes there is a blow of air on hero's face, in sync with that there will be a similar blow of air, from the same direction on the audience's faces. This will be instant and for that moment only.
This way we are placing audience in the place of our hero, experiencing the same danger.
Compartment.
The other train passes away. In the struggle the killer loses balance and falls. Hero
looks at killer and jumps out.
Night.
Empty block. Hero falls and rolls over the block. He gets up brushing his clothes with his hand. Behind him we see the train passing away. The train disappears in long shot and the sound fades out.
It is completely dark. Hero starts walking. There is complete silence. Sound of hero's
feet on dry leaves.
Hero is walking through the bush. After couple of passing shots, Hero stops. There is
a faint sound of something from the distance.
As hero is walking we hear only sounds of dry twigs breaking, hero's footsteps on dry
leaves. Sounds of disturbed birds from theatre ceiling sound of owl from single
speaker in the corner etc.
The faint sound from distance slowly grows and spreads in to all effects speakers.
Now we realize that the sound is of some jungle tribe humming.
Hero's close. He is tensed. A typical sound (laughter) is revolving and hero is turning
towards the source of the sound. He cannot see anything in the darkness.
As the humming sound becomes loud from all effects speakers on the walls, the typical sound of laughter moves, prominently, from one side to all around, giving the illusion that the group is circling around hero. Hero turns around and faces the direction of that typical laughing sound. In this, hero is in mid shot, turning bodily. Hero in dose. He is sweating. Suddenly a fireball zooms on the camera filling the entire screen. Hero reacts. Another charge of fireball and another charge. Hero reacts to the heat of fire.
When the fireball appears and charges on camera - hero's point of view - the prominent sound of fire also changes from screen to side effects speakers filling the theatre. This will be in sync with the visual of the fireball. Along with this charging effect of sound, the audience also feels the blow of hot air straight on their faces. This also is in sync with the visual of the fireball charging on screen. This can be repeated twice. The fireball is the burning torch. Hero is scared. The humming sound stops. Killer appears from behind the flames of torch. His face is horrifying. He is made up like an African tribe. He has a vicious smile on his face. The killer moves forward with the torch.
Long shot. Top angle.
Hero is in the middle of the tribe group. The Killer moves towards the hero. There is unlit pyre of wood dose to them. Killer gives the signal. The tribal group pulls the hero to the tree and ties him up. Hero is helpless. Killer lights the pyre with the torch. The tribal group starts dancing. A distant thundering sound is heard. It becomes louder. There is a flash of lightning. Killer's close up. There is a flash of light on his face. Thunder sound prominent. Killer looks up to the sky. Hero, tied up to the tree. There is a pyre of fire in front of him. Killer looks at him. The sky is dazzling with lightning and thunder is heard loudly. Lightning strikes the killer and he falls down. The tribal on seeing this get disoriented and frightened they run away. The lightning continues. In one such flash of lightning the hero sees some ruins nearby. It is raining heavily. The hero struggles to free himself from the ropes. He wants to take shelter in the ruins. He struggles with the ropes and manages to loosen them. He wriggles out of them and runs towards the ruins.
Interior Ruins.
Hero enters the ruins. He looks around there is no place for shelter as such. However he manages to find a little corner and squeezes in to stay away from the rain. There is a window, which is rattling near him. The wind is forcing its way through the cracks in the window. The lightning is growing more ferocious. The hero is tired and scared. There is a sudden loud sound and the wall near where he is hiding cracks and breaks. Hero is exposed to the rain and wind again. He pushes himself more into the recess in the corner.
During this scene when the tribe is dancing we hear a faint remote rumble of thunder from one of the corner speakers. And then changing the source, the thunder sound grows big and moves from wall to the ceiling and to the screen. The big flash of lightning on screen sometimes falls on the audience in the theatre. When the shot of the window is shown and it opens with a bang a door will also open somewhere near the screen and shut with a loud bang. Wisps of water will be sprayed on the audience to give the feeling of rain coming in. There is a flash of lightning outside the door and in this light we can see the drizzle of the rain. When the cracked wall in the scene falls down with a loud sound audience who were looking at the door will look back at the screen.
That time the open door of the theatre quietly closes back for the next show. This is a dummy door specifically created only for the effect. In the beginning of the scene when the rain starts and the thunder and lightning takes place the temperature in the theatre will fall down considerably. There will be smell of wet earth pervading in the theatre. With traveling thunder sound, flashes of lightning and the smell of rain and earth the audience will feel they are a part of the scene.
Interior
Ruins.
The broken wall. Its mud melting in the rain. Hero's close. Big flash of lightning on
his face. He covers his face with his hands. Slowly the shot fades out. When the
hero's shot fades out we hold the blank screen for sometime. All the effects fade out
slowly, slower then the visual.
Morning
Long shot of landscape fades in. Layers of fog are seen. A soft mist hangs in the air. The trees and leaves look washed clean. Small droplets of water are clinging to the leaves. A river is lazily gliding down. Wisps of smoke curl up from the fire. Shots of birds and small creatures.
Interior
Ruins.
The hero is sleeping curled in a corner.
Exterior
Jungle.
There is a faint glow in the sky. The sunrise is about to take place. Except for the
sound of birds and little creatures there is absolute quiet. A sound comes from the
back of the theatre. It is a very indistinct sound. It moves from back of theatre to
front becoming louder and louder. Birds and creatures fly and scamper away in
terror. Slowly we become aware that it is the sound of a helicopter.
The sound of the helicopter moves from behind the theatre towards the front and
hovers around the ceiling giving a feeling that a helicopter is right above the head of
the audience.
Interior
Ruins.
Hero is sleeping. Hearing the sound of the helicopter he gets up. Shot of the sky
from the hero's viewpoint. We don't see the helicopter on the screen only the sound
comes in from the ceiling of the theatre. Hero moves out to see the sky. He sees
nothing at first then he slowly sees the helicopter emerge from the clouds. The
sound is so loud that the doors, rafters, seats in the hall vibrate. Special dedicated
speakers create these sounds.
The hovering helicopter sounds move from ceiling to the screen. As the sound
reaches the screen the helicopter also becomes visible to the audience.
Interior
Ruins.
Hero gets up and looks at the helicopter. Helicopter is hovering above the ruins. He
sees a rope ladder dropped from the helicopter. He looks at it anxiously. Suddenly he
sees the killer on the rope ladder. Hero runs out.
Exterior Jungle.
Hero runs into the jungle helicopter sound following him. Sound of hero's footsteps as he is running. Sound of him panting. Hero is running towards the valley. Helicopter sounds fade out. Camera follows the hero. He is running falling picking himself up. Finally he slips and falls and rolls on the ground, he is being pulled towards the surging river. Long shot looking down the slope the hero is rolling in the foreground and the rough river in the background.
River bund.
Camera on the side of the river. The side ties a boat. The hero sliding down the slope
manages to catch the rope of the boat. He looks at the jungle behind and jumps into
the boat.
As the hero slips and starts rolling the sound of helicopter fades out. As we cut to
different shot of the hero falling the music builds up. When the hero reaches the
river the sound of river is fed to the side speakers. Hero starts rowing the boat. The river is very rough and drags the boat in. Long shot - river and boat in the middle of the river. We see a waterfall at the end of the river.
Inside boat.
Hero looks at the waterfall. Boat approaching it. He tries to divert the direction of the boat. Boat is stuck in the strong water currents. Hero looks at waterfall again. Shot of waterfall. Camera zooms in on it.
Waterfall.
Top shot of waterfall. The boat is fast approaching the falls. The roaring sound of the
falls. The boat is swinging to and fro in the water.
After the hero sits in the boat and starts rowing the sound of river is fed in through
the side speakers. Also the sound of boat as it is pushed into the water, the sound
comes from under the seats. As the boat swings in the water the seats also rock in
the theatre.
River bund.
Hero's dose up. He looks at the waterfall and looks back. He is helpless. The boat is approaching the fall. The boat disappears. We hold this shot for a long time. And fade out.
When the camera moves to the river bund we are still at close up of hero. When we move back slowly the effect sounds of waterfall and other sounds slowly move to the screen. At the time of the hero falling over the water we hear a scream from someone in the audience. It is from one dedicated speaker from the floor. These kinds of effects will enhance the scene. When the scream stops there will be soft ticking sound of dock from the side speakers, slowly the sound moves to the screen. The whole theatre is quiet except for this sound. This kind of playing with different sounds will make the movie going experience of a different kind.
Hero gets up from his bed goes to the switchboard and puts the light on.
The light in the theatre also goes on.
It would thus be apparent from the above demonstrative script that the system according to the invention would provide for the first time additional dimensions to influence the viewers of audio-visual presentations such as cinema and the like beyond the basic senses of sight and sound and in the process favour adding value

ABSTRACT
A SIMULATION MOTION SYSTEM ADAPTED FOR AUDITORIUMS AND LIKE
AUDIO- VISUAL PRESENTATIONS
A simulation motion system adapted for auditorium and like audio visual presentations which would favour influencing its viewers through five senses including sight, sound, feel, smell and touch.
