DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an earthing device or ON/OFF switch, or any switchgear used in electrical applications. More particularly, the present invention relates the high voltage disconnecting and earthing device which are used to apply the high voltage to electrical applications.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
The earthing device connects/disconnects the incoming power to the circuits comprising loads. When manually operated or operated by any means to connect the load to the power source, the incoming power flows to the loads.
The switch consists of two separate sets of contacts, one set for incoming power supplies and another set for connecting the power supplies to the load. The switching is usually done by the operation of a cam and cam follower that makes the contacts to make/break to connect/disconnect the load from the power source. The cam is mounted on the first end of a cam shaft which is rotatably mounted on a housing that comprises the terminals. A knob/handle is provided on the second end of the cam shaft that carries the cam in such a manner that the rotation of knob/handle alters the position of the cam from a first position to a second position to facilitate lifting and lowering the moveable terminals operably connected to the cam follower. This establishes contact between moveable contacts and the fixed contacts to change a circuit from one set of connections to another.
The switch known in the art consists of four stationary contacts and two moving contacts. One moving contact and two stationary contacts are known as ONE Pole and are designed to take up 750 V. For example, for 1000V applications it is required to construct the switch with TWO poles and connecting the stationary contacts through an external link to make the contacts in series connection. This construction is capable of withstanding 1000 volts of operating voltage of any required current rating. In spite of that the above construction comprises all the elements required for TWO pole application due to the inter connection of contacts by an external link, it is necessary to use two switches interlinked together which is very expensive.
Accordingly, there exists a need to develop a single switch that comprises all the elements required for TWO pole application and such construction which will be cost effective.
OBJECTS OF INVENTION

It is the main objective of the present invention to provide disconnecting and earthing device for high voltage application having all the elements contained within a single housing.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING FIGURES
As shown in Figure 1, the disconnecting and earthing device known in the art comprises a switch housing (1) disposed to house the elements of the earthing device. A cam (2) is disposed to incorporate to and fro motion to a first cam follower (3) fitted with first moving contacts (3a) and second moving contact (3b). The cam (2) further incorporates to and fro motion to a second cam follower (4) fitted with third moving contacts (4a) and fourth moving contact (4b). The cam (2) is mounted on a cam shaft (6) and the cam followers (3, 4) are loaded with spring (5) to ensure that the cam follower (3, 4) is always in contact with the cam (2). The cam (2) incorporates to and fro motion to the cam follower (3, 4) carrying the moving contact (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) according to the profile of the cam (2).
The cam (2) is fitted on the camshaft (6) at the required position and is mounted within the switch housing (1) such that the cam (2) can be swiveled between a first position and a second position. The switch housing (1) further houses first fixed contact strip (7), second contact strip (8), third contact strip (9) and fourth contact strip (10) which are fitted at predetermined location such a manner that the cam shaft (6) can be changed between the first position and the second position.
In the first position the cam (2) lifts the cam follower (3, 4) carrying the moving contacts (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) towards engaged contacts (7a, 8a, 9a, 10a) such that the moving contacts (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) engages with the fixed contacts (7a, 8a, 9a, 10a) and in this position the switch performs the ON function. The first fixed contact strip (7) and the second fixed contact strip (8) are connected by a first link (11).
In the second position the cam (2) lowers the cam follower (3, 4) carrying the moving contacts (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) are shifted away from the fixed contacts (7a, 8a, 9a, 10a) such that the moving contacts (3a, 3b, 4a, 4b) disengages from the fixed contacts (7a, 8a, 9a, 10a) and in this position the switch performs the OFF function. For high voltage applications two such switches shown in Figure 1 are needed to be connected in tandem. A link mechanism connects both the switches. The terminals of both the switches are interconnected. The switch is operated with a handle which is fitted to the cam shaft (6) that extends outside the housing (1) for switching between the two positions namely ON and OFF. In ON position the power input to the first fixed contact strip (7) is transmitted to the fourth fixed contact (10). A link mechanism is used to connect both the switches and operated with a single handle.
