DESC:Field of the invention:

The present invention relates to a display system of protection relays, switchgears and more particularly to the display system for flashing alarm indication of the protection relays, the switchgears and like.

Background of the invention:

Generally, a switchgear device in an electrical power distribution system is arranged with an electrically powered actuator for operating a moveable part of the switchgear device for operating the opening and/or closing of a circuit breaker. The switchgear device has a control unit with means to receive state information from the actuator. The control unit includes a human-machine interface panel (HMI panel) for condition monitoring and control purposes. The HMI panel includes a display system for displaying an indication of a status or a condition of electrical devices of the electrical power distribution system.

In a prior art switchgear device, when any alarm occurs on a protection relay, the display system shows only an LED indication. But, the display system does not show any clear notification with visual indication for a user.

Accordingly, there is a need of a display system to overcome abovementioned prior art problems and to display flashing alarm indication with clear notification with visual indication when any alarm occurs on protection relays.

Objects of the invention:

An object of the present invention is to provide a visual indication on a display system for an alarm.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a clear notification on the display system for the alarm.

Summary of the invention:

Accordingly, in one aspect, the present invention provides a display system of a switchgear device for displaying a flashing alarm indication. The switchgear device is arranged with an electrically powered actuator for operating the opening and/or closing of a circuit breaker. The switchgear device comprises of a control unit and a protection relay unit. The control unit monitors a state information of the switchgear device in real time by receiving the state information from the actuator. The display system is located on the control unit for displaying a status of the switchgear device in real time. The display system includes an alarm displaying region configured thereon for displaying a flashing alarm indication. When any alarm happens on a protection relay unit of the switchgear device, the alarm displaying region displays a flashing alarm indication. The alarm displaying region shows a clear description of the alarm for indicating a user about more details of an event happened and a status of a release of the switchgear device. The alarm displaying region keeps flashing for at least 10 seconds with at least an interval of 30 seconds. A duty cycle of the flashing of the alarm is 2 sec ON and 2 second OFF. The alarm displaying region shows a string for the alarm for 2 seconds and shows a blank region for 1 second, thereby creating the flashing effect on the alarm displaying region. The alarm displaying region shows a scrolling metering screen, if an alarm is not detected.

In another aspect, the present invention provides a method for a flashing alarm indication on a display system of a switchgear device. The method includes showing a scrolling metering screen on an alarm displaying region there is no occurrence of an alarm on a protection relay unit of the switchgear device. In next step, the method includes checking whether the alarm is detected on the protection relay unit. If the alarm is not detected, then the method includes continuing to show the scrolling metering screen on the alarm displaying region. In next step, if the alarm is detected on the protection relay unit, then the method includes displaying a flashing alarm indication on the alarm displaying region. The alarm displaying region shows a clear description of the alarm for indicating a user about more details of an event happened and a status of a release of the switchgear device.

Detailed description of the embodiments:

The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiments.

The present invention provides a display system for flashing alarm indication of protection relays, switchgears. The display system provides visual indication and clear notification for the alarm.

The present invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings, throughout which reference numbers indicate corresponding parts in the various figures. These reference numbers are shown in bracket in the following description.

Referring to figure 1, a switchgear device (100) in accordance with the present invention is shown. The switchgear device (100) is arranged with an electrically powered actuator (not shown) for operating the opening and/or closing of a circuit breaker (not shown). The switchgear device (100) comprises of a control unit (80) and a protection relay unit (not shown). The control unit (80) monitors state information of the switchgear device (100) in real time. The control unit (80) receives the state information from the actuator. The control unit (80) comprises of a display system (50).

Referring to figures 2 to 3, the display system (50) of the switchgear device (100) is shown. The display system (50) is configured to display a status of the switchgear device (100) in real time for condition monitoring and control purposes. In an embodiment, the display system (50) includes a HMI panel human-machine interface (HMI) panel. The display system (50) comprises an alarm displaying region (10).

When an alarm happens on a protection relay unit of the switchgear device (100), the alarm displaying region (10) displays a flashing alarm indication. The alarm displaying region (10) shows a clear description of the alarm for indicating a user about more details of an event happened and a status of a release of the switchgear device (100). In an embodiment, the alarm displaying region (10) keeps flashing for at least 10 seconds with at least an interval of 30 seconds. A duty cycle of the flashing is 2 sec ON and 2 second OFF. Hence, the alarm displaying region (10) shows a string for the alarm for 2 seconds (as shown in figure 3) and shows a blank region for 1 second, thereby creating the flashing effect on the alarm displaying region (10).
If the alarm is not detected, the alarm displaying region (10) shows a scrolling metering screen (not shown). In this preferred embodiment, the scrolling metering screen shows current metering parameters for x seconds and after x seconds it shows a voltage metering screen for y seconds. In the embodiment, the values of x and y are user configurable.

Referring to figure 4, in an operation, a method for displaying (200) (hereinafter referred as “the method (200)”) a flashing alarm indication on an alarm displaying region (10) of a display system (50) of a switchgear device (100) in accordance with the present invention is shown. Specifically, the method (200) is illustrated in conjunction with the alarm displaying region (10) of the display system (50) of the present invention.

The method (200) starts at step (110).

At step (120), the method (200) involves showing a scrolling metering screen on the alarm displaying region (10) when there is no occurrence of any alarm on a protection relay unit of a switchgear device (100).

At step (130), the method (200) involves checking whether any alarm is detected on the protection relay unit. If an alarm is not detected, the alarm displaying region (10) continues to show the scrolling metering screen.

At step (140), the method (200) involves displaying a flashing alarm indication on the alarm displaying region (10). If the alarm is detected on the protection relay unit, the alarm displaying region (10) shows the flashing alarm indication (10).

The method (200) ends at step (150).

In this way, the method (100) provides visual indication and clear notification for the alarm by displaying the flashing alarm indication on the alarm displaying region (10).

Advantages of the invention:
1. The method (100) provides visual indication for the alarm on the display system (50).
2. The method (100) provides clear notification for the alarm on the display system (50).

1. A display system (50) of a switchgear device (100) for flashing alarm indication, wherein the switchgear device (100) arranged with an electrically powered actuator for operating the opening and/or closing of a circuit breaker, the switchgear device (100) comprising a control unit (80) and a protection relay unit, the control unit (80) monitoring a state information of the switchgear device (100) in real time by receiving the state information from the actuator, the switchgear device (100) characterized in that:
the display system (50) located on the control unit (80) for displaying a status of the switchgear device (100) in real time, the display system (50) having,
• an alarm displaying region (10) configured thereon for displaying a flashing alarm indication;
wherein, when any alarm happens on a protection relay unit of the switchgear device (100), the alarm displaying region (10) displays a flashing alarm indication and shows a clear description of the alarm for indicating a user about more details of an event happened and a status of a release of the switchgear device (100).

2. The display system (50) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the alarm displaying region (10) keeps flashing for at least 10 seconds with at least an interval of 30 seconds.

3. The display system (50) as claimed in claim 1, wherein a duty cycle of the flashing of the alarm is 2 sec ON and 2 second OFF.

4. The display system (50) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the alarm displaying region (10) shows a string for the alarm for 2 seconds and shows a blank region for 1 second, thereby creating the flashing effect on the alarm displaying region (10).
5. The display system (50) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the alarm displaying region (10) shows a scrolling metering screen, if an alarm is not detected.

6. The display system (50) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the display system (50) includes a HMI panel human-machine interface (HMI) panel.

7. A method for displaying (200) a flashing alarm indication on a display system (50) of a switchgear device (100), the method (200) comprising the steps of:
showing a scrolling metering screen on an alarm displaying region (10) when there is no occurrence of an alarm on a protection relay unit of the switchgear device (100);
checking whether the alarm is detected on the protection relay unit;
continuing to show the scrolling metering screen on the alarm displaying region (10) if the alarm is not detected;
displaying a flashing alarm indication on the alarm displaying region (10) if the alarm is detected on the protection relay unit;
wherein the alarm displaying region (10) shows a clear description of the alarm for indicating a user about more details of an event happened and a status of a release of the switchgear device (100).
