Specification

Field of Invention

The present invention relates generally to a mounting arrangement for display unit in motorcycle and more particularly to the positioning of the display unit on the internal casing of the head lamp mounting assembly.

Background of the Invention

A display unit is a device that measures the different parameters of a vehicle which are required for the rider during driving. They are always mounted directly in front of the driver for visibility and ergonomics and hence should be placed in the most convenient spot for the driver to see while riding. In motorcycles, location of the display unit is primarily dependent on the visibility of it to the driver hence the display unit is generally placed between the handle bars and the headlamp in line with the central plane. Generally, in some motorcycles the display unit is mounted on top of the headlamp or on a separate stay which connects the display unit to the steering column. The stay is generally a metal member which connects the display unit to the steering column in locations such as the pivot tube, or the steering upper and/or lower bracket or on the handle bar. Newer vehicles have introduced plastic stays which does the same function of the stay as the metal counterpart. In scooters the display unit is mounted directly onto the inner casing [mounted from below] of the headlamp unit which is something nonexistent in motorcycles. In all arrangements a separate casing and attachment of the stay results in a higher cost, also the stiffness for inner casing of the head lamp mounting assembly is lesser as there is no proper support for and mainly it is used as a style part hence again it adds further cost to the production of the motorcycle.

Summary of the Invention

The present invention relates to the location of display unit over the headlamp assembly, more specifically on the inner casing of the headlamp assembly wherein the display unit is fixed with said inner casing and said casing is further attached with the mounting stay and said stay joins said inner casing with the front fork assembly which further joins the head lamp sub assembly with the handle bar assembly.

This arrangement is novel as the display unit is fixed with the inner casing of the head lamp assembly. Therefore no specific casing for display unit is required that results in considerable reduction in the cost and material required in manufacturing process.

Brief Description of Drawings

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus, are not limited of the present invention and wherein:

Figure 1 shows the mounting arrangement of display unit which is directly mounted over the inner casing of headlamp and its assembly with the housing stay.

Figure2 shows the mounting of the headlamp sub-assembly (inner) over the front fork assembly.

Figure3 shows the arrangement for the mounting of the handlebar assembly over the front fork assembly.

Figure4 shows the final fixing arrangement of headlamp outer casing assembly to the headlamp sub-assembly (inner).

Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments

The embodiments disclosed below are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed in the following detailed description. Rather, the embodiments are chosen and described so that others skilled in the art may utilize their teachings. The application of this invention is extended to all type of two wheeler vehicles.

Referring to Figure 1, mounting arrangement of display unit (1) directly over the inner casing (3) of headlamp (12) and further mounting of the inner casing (3) over the housing stay (6) is shown. Said display unit (1) can be of any shape and size suitable to the features created to hold the display unit (1) and said display unit (1) can be fixed/ mounted to the inner casing (3) for headlamp (12) from top or bottom, as per requirement, with the help of a display unit holding bracket. This subassembly is further mounted over a housing stay (6) which works as a support for this head lamp sub assembly.

Further referring to Figure 2, mounting arrangement of said headlamp sub assembly over the front fork assembly (14) can be explained. Housing stay (6) attached to the inner casing (3) of the headlamp assembly (13), further mounted over the tubular fork members (8) with the help of handle bar upper bracket lock nuts (7). Afterwards, handle bar assembly (10) is mounted over the front fork assembly (15), as shown in Figure 3, so that the upper bracket (9) of the handle bar assembly (10) get fixed into the tubular fork members (8) of the front fork assembly (15) and the head lamp sub assembly moves with the movement of the handle bar (10).

Further, as referred in Figure 4, said head lamp sub-assembly is attached with the outer casing (11) for head lamp (12) wherein said outer casing includes the visor (14), headlamp (12), headlamp holding bracket (16) and headlamp electrical circuit assembly (17).

The above described arrangement has no specific casing for display unit which results in considerable reduction in the cost and material required in manufacturing process

What is claimed is:

1) A display unit mounted structure in a motorcycle comprising :

a) an inner casing for headlamp;

b) a display unit integrated with a display unit holding bracket further mounted on the inner casing;

c) a housing stay connected to the inner casing;

d) a front fork assembly connected to the housing stay;

e) a handle bar assembly connected to the front fork assembly; and

f) an outer casing assembly for headlamp;

wherein, the front fork assembly includes a tubular fork member and handle bar upper bracket lock nuts;

wherein, the handle bar assembly includes a handle bar fork support bracket and the holder assembly; and

wherein, the outer casing assembly for headlamp includes a headlamp, a head lamp holding bracket, a head lamp electrical circuit assembly and a visor.

2. The display unit mounted structure, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the display unit holding bracket is secured on top of the inner casing.

3. The display unit mounted structure, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the display unit holding bracket is secured on bottom of the inner casing.

4. The display unit mounted structure, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing stay is made up of metal.

5. The display unit mounted structure, as claimed in claim 1, wherein the housing stay is made up of plastic.
