The present disclosure described herein, in general, relates to a door sill guard for a vehicle. In particular, the present disclosure relates to specific processing of the preparation of the door sill guard i.e. a non-damageable filling technique of free space in some of the alphanumeric characters with a respective color.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Vehicle door sills are subjected to high wear and tear as more often the passengers keep their foot on it while getting in or out of the vehicle. To prevent the wearing and tearing of the door sills, door sill guards are used. Often, in order to improve aesthetic appeal, the door sill guards are made with a logo and/or a design. Usually, the logo is the vehicle's name made up of alphanumeric characters. Such type of door sill guards includes a plastic component on which the logo is embossed which is overlapped with a metal component from the top having cut-out portions corresponding to the characters of the logo to accommodate the logo. However, in the case of alphanumeric characters such as A, B, D, O, P, Q, R, 0, 4, 6, 8, 9, etc. there is a free space either in small form or capital form of characters or in the numbers. The free space reduces visual aesthetic appeal to the door sill guard due to color unmatch and to overcome this problem a filling technique is known in the art wherein a cut-out piece having the same color as that of a plate of the door sill guard is pasted with a double-sided tape from the top in the free space of the above-mentioned alphanumeric characters if present in the logo made in the plastic component. However, during ingress and egress of an occupant, there is a chance that the cut-out piece may come out or get damaged thereby further degrading the aesthetics of the door sill guard and the vehicle in general.
[0003] In view of the above-mentioned issues, there is a need to provide an alternate filling technique of the cut-out piece such that the cut-out piece doesn't come out of the free space or gets damaged simultaneously maintaining the aesthetics of the vehicle.
OBJECTS OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0004] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfy, are listed hereinbelow.
[0005] It is a general or primary object of the present disclosure to provide a door sill guard for a vehicle wherein the cut-out piece doesn't come out of the free space or gets damaged simultaneously maintaining the aesthetics of the vehicle.

[0028] In order to prevent a cut-out piece from coming out of a free space present in the alphanumeric characters such as A, B, D, O, P, Q, R, 0, 4, 6, 8, 9, etc. that may be embossed on a plastic insert as a logo to improve aesthetic appeal, a filling technique is disclosed in the present disclosure. The present disclosure can be described with the help of an example as shown in FIG. 1. FIG. 1 shows an exploded view of a door sill guard 100 where the filling technique as per the present disclosure is to be applied. The door sill guard 100 is to be attached to a door sill (not shown in FIG. 1) of a vehicle either with the help of fasteners or adhesives. The door sill guard 100 comprises a plate 102, a plastic insert 104, a cut-out piece 106 and a plurality of adhesive tapes 108. The plate 102, in general, is formed with cut portions corresponding to predefined characters of a logo. In an aspect, the predefined characters of the logo are alphanumeric characters. In an aspect, the plate 102 is made up of metal but can be made of a non-metal or an alloy. In a preferred embodiment, the plate 102 is made of stainless steel. As per the example of the door sill guard 100 as shown in the FIG. 1, the plate 102 is formed with the cut portions corresponding to the characters of the logo "CELERIO". Similarly, the plastic insert 104 is to have the predefined characters of the logo embossed on its top surface such that the predefined characters of the logo protrude through the corresponding cut portions formed on the plate 102. Therefore, according to the FIG. 1, the plastic insert 104 is having the characters of the word "CELERIO" embossed on its top surface which protrudes through the cut portions of the plate 102. A two-sided adhesive tape 108a is pasted on a bottom surface 102a of the plate 102. Further, two-sided adhesive tapes 108b are pasted on top edges 104a of the plastic insert 104. The adhesive tapes 108b help in adhering top edges 104a of the plastic insert 104 to
the bottom surface 102a of the plate 102 in such a way that the characters of the logo "CELERIO" protrude through the corresponding cut portions formed on the plate 102. The adhesive tape 108a helps in adhering the plate 102 to the door sill of the vehicle. The logo "CELERIO" comprises a letter 'O' which has a free space in it. Such a letter 'O' embossed on the top surface of the plastic insert 104 includes a step cut-out (not visible in the FIG. 1) at its bottom so that the cut-out piece 106 is placed underneath the step cut-out such that the cut-out piece 106 is blocked by a step structure formed by the step cut-out. This prevents the cut-out piece 106 from coming out of the free space of the letter 'O'. A one-sided adhesive tape 108c is pasted underneath the cut-out piece 106 or on a bottom surface 106a of the cut-out piece 106 which is placed underneath the step cut-out to adhere to a bottom surface 104b of the plastic insert 104. In an aspect, the adhesive tape 108c is of minimum thickness and larger in size as compared with the cut-out piece 106. In another aspect, the adhesive tape 108c is double-sided tape such that the adhesive tape 108c adheres the cut-out piece 106 and the bottom surface 104b of the plastic insert 104 with the door sill of the vehicle. In an aspect, the cut-out piece 106 is made of the material and color which is same as that of the door sill guard 100. In an aspect, the cut-out piece 106 is metallic or non-metallic. In another aspect, the cut-out piece 106 is formed from waste material obtained from plate 102. In another aspect, the cut-out piece 106 is formed with new material.
[0029] FIG. 2 A shows the door sill guard 100 attached to a door sill 200 of the vehicle. A section A-A is cut through the letter 'O'. The magnified view of the section A-A is shown in the FIG. 2B. As visible, the cut-out piece 106 is placed underneath the step cut-out 202 included in the bottom of the letter 'O' which is embossed on the plastic insert 104 in such a way that the bottom surface 106a of the cut-out piece 106 is at a level same as that of the bottom surface 104b of the plastic insert 104. This helps in preventing bumps or uneven adhesion between the adhesive tape 108c and the bottom surface 104b of the plastic insert 104.
[0030] FIG. 3 shows the bottom surface of the door sill guard 100 where the cut-out piece 106 is placed underneath the step cut-out 202 (not visible in FIG. 3) of the letter 'O' with the help of the adhesive tape 108c. It is to be noted that the present invention described herein with the logo 'CELERIO' is just an example and to not limit the scope of the invention. The present invention is applicable to different logos as well that are formed of alphanumeric characters wherein at least one of the embossed characters among the group of characters such as A, B, D, O, P, Q, R, 0, 4, 6, 8, 9, etc. embossed on the plastic insert is having a free space and is filled by the cut-out piece by the filling technique as disclosed above. In an aspect, if there is a plurality of characters having free space, a single cut-out piece can be used instead of multiple cut-out pieces without making much change in the plastic insert design thus saving manufacturing time and cost. Further, the cut-out piece requires less space to be accommodated thus can be implemented in the space constraint area.
