Abstract: The present disclosure provides a drilling apparatus that can be used for providing machining operation at various angles on a workpiece. According to an aspect, the apparatus can include a bed adapted for holding one or more work pieces for machining operation; and a base adapted for supporting the bed, wherein the bed is slidably supported on the base such that the bed is free to move at predefined angular positions with respect to the base to facilitate machining operation of the work piece at various positions.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[001] The present disclosure relates generally to a drilling machine. In particular, the present disclosure pertains to drilling apparatus that can hold one or more work pieces at a predefined angular position for performing machine operations on the work piece.
BACKGROUND
[002] The background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[003] At present, machine operations such as drilling and the like to be performed on a work piece can only be performed in a single axis/direction due to the unavailability of adjustable work bench. It is very difficult if the work piece is to be machined at a specific angle. It becomes very difficult or cumbersome to install a pad on the table at a specific inclination, and the angle of the pad and the work piece need to be processed every time the angle of operation on the work piece needs to be changed. However, since the pad can only satisfy the machine operations of one angle, different pads are used for different inclinations, that adds to the cost of the device. Further, frequent replacement of the pad results in low production efficiency.Drilling operations can only be performed in a single axis or at an angle perpendicular to the workbench. In order to drill on other faces, we have to hold and clamp the work piece many times manually or we have to use various fixtures. Other solution involve designing and manufacturing of different fixtures for different jobs and angles which can take lots of time and effort or changing angle of drill bit but that will result in shear of job and drill bit, vibration forces are not stable.
[004] Efforts have been made in the related art to provide a work bench/table that if we have to machine operate a work piece at an angle the work bench can be positioned in accordance with it, that could potentially solve above stated problem and provide a solution for machine operating work piece fixed to a work bench at any axis. For example Denmark Patent number DE2020060146878 discloses a work-piece clamping unit having a machine table holding the work-piece is either attached to or integrated in the surface of a spherical base accommodated in a complementary space at a stator housing and held in place by a ring. The surface of the sphere is provided with several rows of permanent magnets acting in
2
combination with coils located at the inner surface of the space and connected to a control unit directing the motion of the sphere in a pre-programmed way. However, arrangement disclosed in the patent document is limited by a maximum rotational capability of up to an angle of 50oand has much complexity.
[005] European Patent number EP0461994A1 discloses a clamp holding system for a work piece that comprises a sphere which can oscillate in a limited manner in a spherical housing of a thrust base and which on the outside comprises a bearing flat to be applied under pressure to the work piece characterized in that two opposed cylindrical counter bores, one with a flat bottom and the other with a spherical bottom, are practiced first in the sphere opposite its outer flat surface to be applied to the work piece to be clamped and the second axially in the base of the spherical housing receiving the truncated sphere support, mobility the bearing sphere being limited by an abutment ball housed in the volume defined by the two counter bores opposite. The arrangement disclosed in the patent document has no mechanism for locking the work-piece at its position and the system is not capable of holding larger work pieces.
[006] Chinese Patent number CN203945133 discloses an angle adjustable working table comprises a working table body, a fixed part and a rotary part, wherein the fixed part consists of two vertical plates; a slope angle is formed at the top of each vertical plate; a rotary groove is formed between the two vertical plates; the rotary part consists of two semi-circular supporting plates fixedly arranged at the back of the working table body and is positioned in the rotary groove; a driving gear is arranged at the middle part of a force applying shaft and is meshed with a semi-circular gear at the back of the working table body; the working table body and the rotary part rotate in the rotary groove by rotating the force applying shaft so as to adjust the angle of the working table body. The arrangement disclosed in the patent document has no locking mechanism for holding the work-piece on its position.
[007] As can be seen, prior art references teach different types of mechanisms and arrangements for a work bench that can be adjusted to hold the work piece in the direction of machine operation. However, none of them provides a work bench that can be adjusted in a wider range of angles for machine operations and can also lock the work piece at a specific angular position.
[008] There is, therefore, a need to provide a drilling apparatus that allows machining operations to be performed on a work piece at a various angular positions of the work piece with respect to base.
