FIELD OF THE INVENTION:

This invention relates to the Mechanical testing of materials used for evaluation of the properties of weld joints, in particular, wrap around/guided bend testfor welded joints.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ARTS OF THE INVENTION:
Bend testing determines the ductility or the strength of a material by bending the material over a given radius. Following the bend, the sample is inspected for cracks on the outer surface. Bend testing provides insight into the modulus of elasticity and the bending strength or a material. The bend test can be performed by either guided bend test fixture or the Wrap around bend fixture. The designed machine with the fixtures can do both the type of bending of even high strength materials. There is no product available in the market to perform Wrap around bend test of titanium samples. So there is a need for a high strength Wrap around bend tester. The Cam mechanism which can be attached to the wrap around bend test mechanism will convert the circular motion to linear motion for performing guided bend testing. Whereas the middle portion of the machine axis will perform the wrap around bending.
US5602341 claims a Test fixture for welds which can perform testing of the Spot

welded joints, where the present invention is for the butt joint welds. The load will be drastically high in the current invention.
US4656872 claims a mechanism for performing the Wrap around bend test in the guided bend test machine, where the present invention is a mechanism which can perform a Guided bend test in the Wrap around test machine.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
The object of the invention is to develop a machine which can perform bend testing of high strength samples like titanium.
Another object of the invention is to perform both guided bend testing & Wrap around bend testing on a single device.
Further object of the invention is to have a device which can bend the samples at different speed as per the material requirement.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
Bend testing is an easy way for evaluation of ductility of the joints. The Bend test can be normally performed by either Guided bend fixture or wrapped bend fixture. Normally for high strength materials the bending is done by the guided bend fixture. For performing wrap around bend test only smaller machines were available in the market.

But there is a requirement to perform the wrap around bend test for high strength materials in WRI for various trials. So this is the invention to perform the wrap around bend test in a high strength material like Titanium. The Machine is designed to perform the Wrap around bend test by using the rotation of the main axis shaft. The additional setup use the cam mechanism for converting into a guided bend test. So the same machine can be used for both guided bend testing & wrap around bending even for a high strength materials.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS:
Figure 1 shows the device invented for bending the sample using wrap around bendfixture mechanism.
Figure 2 shows the device which can perform the guided bend test with the same machine with the help of attachment.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION:
In fig. 1 the holding mechanism 1 holds the job firmly in the process of performing wrap around test, main axis shaft 2 is connected to the revolving motor meant for rotational movement, the guide 3 is configured to perform the bending process of the job component 4, which will undergo bending with rotation of the shaft 2. The clamping

mechanism 1 is designed to hold the sample 4, while wrapping around and bending the job does not slip. The diameter of the main axis shaft 2 is designed as per requirement so that the radius of the sample will bend according to the desired level. The guide 3 in the fixture will wrap around the main axis thereby bending the job gradually, the speed of bending can be controlled by choosing the RPM of the base motor associated with the rotating member 5. The major excellence of the invention is directed towards its versatility that the same machine can be used for the guide bend test by simply replacing the guide 3 by a cam 6 and other related fixtures like supporting roller 7 for performing 3 point bend, and the sliding mechanism 10 slides through the new guiding mechanism 9 by way of the movement of the cam 6. Basically herein the cam mechanism 6 slides over the guides 9 and convert the circular motion in to a linear motion, which will further press the sample against the supporting rollers 7 to perform 3 point bend test. The length of the bending is limited by the movement allowed by the cam mechanism.

WE CLAIM:
1. A bending machine for performing wrap around bend test and guided bend test
for welded joints comprising,
- a revolving component (5);
- main axis shaft (2);
- guide (3);
- holding mechanism (1);
- cam mechanism (6);
- supporting rollers (7);
- guide mechanism (9);
- sliding mechanism (10);
characterized by dual operation of conducting wrap around bend test by wrap around fixture and guided bend test by guided fixture on the same device.
2. The bending machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein wrap around bend test part constitutes a revolving component (5), the main axis shaft (2), guide (3), holding mechanism (1) to evaluate elasticity of materials after welding.
3. The bending machine as claimed in claim 1, wherein guided bend test part constitutes a revolving component (5), cam mechanism (6), supporting rollers

(7), guide mechanism (9), sliding mechanism (10) to evaluate elasticity of materials after welding.
4. A method of testing for evaluation of elasticity/ ductility/strength of materials after welding of a job by wrap around or guide bend test wherein, the job (4) is clamped in a holding mechanism (1), wrapping the job around the main axis shaft (2) through the guide (3) by bending gradually in a rotation of the revolving component (5)
5. The method as claimed in claim 4, wherein the guide bend test through cam mechanism (6) on the main axis shaft (2), sliding over the guides (9) to convert circular motion in to linear motion, further pressing the sample(8) against the supporting rollers (7) in a rotation of the revolving component.
