Dual Liquefied Natural Gas Tank Assembly For Heavy Duty Vehicle

Abstract: A dual liquefied natural gas tank assembly (10) for heavy duty vehicle is disclosed which includes an engine (26) supported by a chassis (42, 42a) and operatively connected to wheels (46) of a vehicle (40). A dual fuel tank (12, 12a) is disposed at respective side of the chassis (42, 42a) for receiving a liquefied natural gas for the engine (26) and a pump (36, 36a) transfers the liquefied natural gas from the dual fuel tank (12, 12a) to the engine (26). A skip valve (16, 16a) connected to each fuel tank (12, 12a) is capable of alternating flow to a spare tank (22, 22a) and the engine (26). The skip valve (16, 16a) opens a gate (25, 25a) to the spare tank (22, 22a) if pressure in the fuel tank (12, 12a) is greater than a predetermined pressure otherwise the skip valve (16, 16a) opens other gate (35, 35a) to the engine (26) to balance pressure between the dual fuel tank (12, 12a) and reduce fuel vent off due to higher pressure within the dual fuel tank (12, 12a).
