Abstract: A system to optimize vehicle operation at varied operating conditions based on selection of dual power mode operation. The system includes a load sensing means (102) adapted to sense the varied vehicle operating conditions. An electronic control unit (104) adapted to calculate tractive effort which is required for controlled driving pattern at the varied vehicle operating conditions; determine simulated torque curve at vehicle unloaded condition based on the calculated tractive effort; calculate a secondary torque limitation with constant speed limitation; activate a secondary torque mode when the vehicle is at no load or part load condition; and dynamically optimize the vehicle operation based on selection of the secondary torque mode at varied vehicle operating conditions. The varied vehicle operating conditions are rated load both route (RL/RL) and rated load return empty (RL/RE). A controlled torque curve controls the vehicle demand in the unloaded condition. The torque curve is defined by no load vehicle tractive demand. FIG. I
