DESC:A SWITCHABLE LASER RESONATOR ,CLAIMS:1. A switchable laser resonator (100) comprising:
a laser module (101) to generate a laser beam (120) at a first wavelength;
a Q-switch (104) placed in an optical path of the laser resonator (100) to obtain a laser beam (120-1) at the first wavelength;
a polarizer (110) optically coupled to the laser module (101) to receive the laser beam (120-1) and produce a polarized laser beam (120-2) at the first wavelength; and
a switching mechanism (130) comprising a beam-switching unit (140), a first optical circuit (150) and a second optical circuit (160), wherein the beam switching unit (140) optically aligns the polarized laser beam (120-2) with one of the first and second optical circuits (150, 160) based on a user selection, and wherein the first optical circuit (150) receives the polarized laser beam (120-2) and extracts at least a portion of the polarized laser beam (120-2) as a first output laser beam (180) of a first output wavelength, and wherein the second optical circuit (160) receives the polarized laser beam (120-2) and generates a second output laser beam (180-1) at a second output wavelength.

2. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the laser module (101) comprises at least one laser medium and at least one energy source for generating the laser beam (120) at the first wavelength.

3. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Q-switch (104) pulsates the laser beam (120) up to a maximum repetition rate to obtain the laser beam (120-1).

4. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a pair of bending mirrors (102, 102-1) to provide a folded optical path for the laser beam (120) produced at the first wavelength from the laser module (101);

5. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, further comprising at least one reflector (108) at one end of the laser resonator (100) to reflect the laser beam (120-1) back into the laser module (101).

6. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a pair of apertures (106, 106-1) to confine the diameter of the laser beam (120) to a diameter of each aperture (106, 106-1).

7. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first optical circuit (150) comprises a first output coupler (150-1) for transmitting at least a portion of the polarized laser beam (120-2) at the first output wavelength, wherein the first output wavelength is equal to the first wavelength.

8. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein
the second optical circuit (160) comprises at least one beam separator (160-1), a harmonic generator (160-2), and a second output coupler (160-3); and
the harmonic generator (160-2) is optically coupled and positioned in between the at least one beam separator (160-1) and the second output coupler (160-3) to convert the polarized laser beam (120-2) to the second output laser beam (180-1) at the second output wavelength.

9. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the beam-switching unit (140) is one of an opto-mechanical switch, a hydraulic switch, a micro-electro-mechanical system switch, and an electrical switch.

10. The switchable laser resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the beam-switching unit (140) switches an optical path of the polarized laser beam (120-2) by a mechanical movement of a rotatably supported mirror assembly.

11. The switchable resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the harmonic generator (160-2) is a non linear crystal comprising one of a LBO, KTP, KNbO3, CLBO, BBO and other combination.

12. The switchable resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the at least one beam separator (160-1) is a dichroic mirror to reflect or transmit one of the polarized laser beam (120-2) at the first wavelength and the second output laser beam (180-1) at the second wavelength.

13. The switchable resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first output laser beam (180) at the first output wavelength is of 1064 nm, and the second output laser beam (180-1) at the second output wavelength is of 532 nm.

14. The switchable resonator (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the switching mechanism (130) comprises an additional optical circuit that receives the second output laser beam (180-1) at the second output wavelength and converts the second output laser beam (108-1) to a third output laser beam at a third output wavelength.

15. The switchable resonator (100) as claimed in claim 14, wherein the third output laser beam is a 266 nm wavelength laser beam.

16. A method (200) for producing a dual wavelength laser beam comprising:
generating (202) a laser beam (120) at a first wavelength;
pulsating (206) the laser beam (120) to obtain a laser beam (120-1) at the
first wavelength;
polarizing (212) the laser beam (120-1) into a polarized laser beam (120-2) at the first wavelength;
receiving (216) a selection to optically align the polarized laser beam (120-2) with a selected optical circuit from a plurality of optical circuits (150, 160); and
optically aligning (220, 226) the polarized laser beam (120-2) with the selected optical circuit to extract (224) at least a portion of the polarized laser beam so as to generate an output laser beam at a desired output wavelength by the selected optical circuit.

17. The method as claimed in claim 16, comprising:
generating a first output laser beam (180) at a first output wavelength by a first optical circuit (150), when the selected optical circuit is the first optical circuit (150); and
generating (228) a second output laser beam (180-1) at a second output wavelength from the polarized laser beam (120-2) by a second optical circuit (160), when the selected optical circuit is the second optical circuit (160).

18. The method as claimed in claim 16, further comprising:
bending (204) the polarized laser beam (120-2) using mirrors to define a folded optical beam path;
reducing (208) a diameter of the polarized laser beam (120-2) using an aperture to produce a sharp laser beam; and

reflecting (210) a portion of the polarized laser beam (120-2) back through the folded optical beam path.
