Abstract: This is patent claim of an eye-drop instillation instrument useful for the patients of eye ailments. This instrument is hygienically safe, would save time, minimize the risk involved, and can be efficiently used without any external help. The instrument under this claim is compatible with almost all th~ eye drops tested in the market and also manufacturers can design the shape and contents in synchronization with this instrument. It can be equipped with variable spikes in order to suit all the users. It is a light weight device that can help user in using eye medicine using instrument"s double ring mechanism. This instrument is supported on rigid frame of glasses making it stable for use. Instrument can be used by elders, youngsters with tremors in hands or anyone for whom eye medicine dripping is difficult.
1. Title of Invention
Easedrop: An Instrument for Eye Drop Instillation
2. Field of Invention
The field of the present invention is Medical Technology.
3. Prior Art Description (Background of the Invention)
If we look at the state of medical aids and means of medication for eye-ailments, particularly for
the elderly, we come across a lot of problems. Elderly or single persons often find it difficult
while dripping eye-drops (medicine). Even healthy young men and women while suffering from
conjunctivitis, face this problem. One needs assistance while dripping medicine in eyes. It is not
possible that an attendant or a family member of a person always accompany him/her. Thus, we
decided to explore a solution of this problem.
Furthermore, often we are not careful about the hygiene and sanitation while dripping medicine
in eyes. It is difficult to instill the medicine in eye without touching the eye or eye lashes. This
may cause infection and trauma occasionally.
The invention under this claim is a possible solution of these imminent problems.
4. Object of Invention
Object of the invention is an instrument for the elderly and single individuals who face difficulty
with placement and dripping eye medicines without external help.
5. Statement of Invention
This is patent claim of an instrument that a patient of eye ailment can use without any attendant
or external help for eye-drop instillation. Even a person with tremors in hands can use it without
any problem. Particularly, it could be extremely useful for elderly and people living in solitude.
..
6. A Summary of Invention
Easedrop is an instrument developed as a hygienically safe and user friendly medical aid for eyedrop
instillation. A single person or a patient without any attendant can use it conveniently. Even
a person with tremors in hands can use it without any problem. Particularly, it could be
extremely useful for elderly and people living in solitude.
While dripping the medicine in eye, the user need not touch eyes. This makes device 'Easedrop'
hygienically safe and eludes possibility of infection.
8. Brief Description of the Accompanying Photographs/Drawing(s)
Photograph 1. Easedrop- the instrument. (Also seen hereby are various eye medicines in
different shapes and content that are compatible with this instrument.)
Photograph 2. Use of the instrument: Wear the instrument and press the bottle.
The present invention can be understood with the accompanying drawing and claims. Broadly
the instrument is explained under following verticals
Photographs 1 and 2 are the pictures of said instrument for an eye-drop (eye medicine) instillation
into eyes. It could be understood in parts as:
Part 1: It is a stand and supporting system on a hollow frame. It is basically mechanical
arrangement mounted on the hollow frame of glasses.
Part 2: This arrangement is in the form of rigid double ring mechanism so as to hold the
eye drop properly.
This mechanism is such that it does not interfere with the flow of medicine at any point of
operation.
9. Detailed Description of the Invention
In the following description, like reference characters designate like or corresponding
combination throughout several illustrations are shown in the description. Moreover, it will be
understood that the illustrations are for the purpose of describing a particular exemplary
embodiment ofthe invention and are not intended to limit the invention thereto.
Idea is to easily drop the medicine (eye drop) into user's eye without any external help. We just
need our instrument and the prescribed medicine. We put the same into ease drop, press it and
here you are with the job done without spilling and successful on very first attempt. ( For about
30-45 seconds only)
Photograph 1: Illustrates the range of eye medicines in terms of shape content are easily
compatible with this instrument.
Photograph 2: The user just needs to operate with a firm hands to drop one drop into hislher eye.
User just needs to take care that he/she doesn't close eyes before dropping the medicines along
with a not too firm pressing of eye medicine. This also describes ring mechanism used in the
instrument to hold the eye medicine.
Algorithm o! the use of the device
Step 1. Start
Step 2. Insert eye-drop into the instrument
Step 3. Place and perform shifting a bit if required.
Step 4. Press using your thumb from above or hold from sides.
Step 5. Take rest for a few minutes and don't press your eyes too much.
Step 6: End
Upper ring has a diameter 5 centimeters and lower one of about 1.2 centimeters. These together
constitute a frustum like structure as shown in figure I which holds any eye drop firmly. These
double rings are designed in such way that a bottle is held inside the frame; the lower ring
(smaller one) is designed so that tip of eye drop bottle doesn't come in contact with the
eyelashes. We just need to press gently from the top or the body of the bottle if needed. And it is
done! (See accompanying photographs)
medicine in eye.
10. Claims
