[0018] In any embodiment described herein, the open-ended terms "comprising," "comprises,” and the like (which are synonymous with "including," "having” and "characterized by") may be replaced by the respective partially closed phrases "consisting essentially of," consists essentially of," and the like or the respective closed phrases "consisting of," "consists of, the like.

[0019] As used herein, the singular forms “a,” “an,” and “the” designate both the singular and the plural, unless expressly stated to designate the singular only.

[0020] The present invention relates to an edible water bottle capable of being degraded more rapidly in natural environments, thereby reducing environmental impact of disposal, even the bottle is also eatable in nature and free from synthetics, which makes the bottle ecofriendly and harmless to the user, if the user is consuming the bottle.

[0021] Referring to Figure 1, illustrates a block diagram of an edible water bottle.

[0022] The present invention is, accordingly, generally related to an edible water bottle that may provide an alternative to the existing single-use plastic bottles, which are disposable and non-biodegradable. Therein, the bottle itself is made of a biodegradable membrane from natural, organic materials, mainly taken from seaweed, in combination with a small amount of calcium chloride. This membrane encases a liquid, such as water, into a squeezable ball that serves both functionally as a container and safely for human consumption.

[0023] The invention claimed herein is directed to the membrane itself. Sodium alginate, naturally occurring polysaccharide occurring in the cell wall of brown algae, serves here as the base material for the composition. This is due to the fact that, in the presence of calcium ions provided by calcium chloride, sodium alginate forms a gel that increases the rigidity of the membrane. The resultant membrane is transparent, neutrally flavored, and completely biodegradable, breaking down naturally within weeks of its use. It can thus greatly reduce the environmental impact compared to conventional plastic bottles.

[0024] In an embodiment of the present invention, the membrane does not contain any artificial or synthetic additives to maintain natural and eco-friendly features of the applied materials. In particular, composition and process for forming a membrane are controlled with much care so that no artificial additives are used in it. This feature makes the eatable bottle a sustainable product in view of escalating demand for environment-friendly alternatives.

[0025] The membrane is also meant to peel easily, whereby the user may choose to take it with the liquid inside or without removing it before use. The peelable nature adds to the convenience that a user has in that it allows flexibility both in the use and consumption of the product to diverse preferences. Besides seaweed, the membrane may also include other plant-based materials. These other materials enhance the mechanical strength of the membrane by making it tougher, yet still edible and biodegradable. Such a combination of different natural materials makes the membrane even stronger while being degradable in the more natural environment, therefore further minimalizing any possible environmental impact.

[0026] Although one of the key functions of the edible water bottle is to hold water other kind of consumable liquids. The membrane is capable of holding any other type of liquid, whether these are flavored beverages, without compromising the nature of the tasteless membrane. This further increases the number of possible uses for the bottle, each of which will apply differently within the food and beverage industry.

[0027] In an embodiment of the present invention, the membrane design is that the product once thrown away should degrade faster outside of natural environments, such as soil or water. However, this invention presents fast degradation as a very important characteristic to have when the product leaves the store. Materials of the membrane are chosen and treated in such a way that they are in full decomposition quickly and harmlessly, returning to nature without adding to pollution or wastes.

[0028] The edible water bottle described has a highly novel and innovative approach aimed at reducing the burden of single-use plastic pollution. With natural and biodegradable materials in use, making it sustainable and safe to use. Imagine that sodium alginate reacted with calcium chloride can produce a functionalized membrane that works as a liquid container and, when ingested, is a good food source, which is altogether truly sustainable in comparison to traditional plastic bottles..

[0029] Although the field of the invention has been described herein with limited reference to specific embodiments, this description is not meant to be construed in a limiting sense. Various modifications of the disclosed embodiments, as well as alternate embodiments of the invention, will become apparent to persons skilled in the art upon reference to the description of the invention.
