Field of the Invention:
This invention relates to an electric pole climbing device and in
particular, this invention relates to an electric pole climbing device which
consists of stairs made off steel sheet and sleeper. Furthermore, this invention
also relates to the process of climbing in the electric pole by using the device
and this invention also relates to electric pole climbing device which has the
beneficial effects of having simple and compact structure, convenient
manufacture and assembly, evident use effect and the like.
Background of the invention and the related Prior Art:
In general, the technique of climbing electrical poles has remained
virtually unchanged for over one hundred years. It is conventional for a
lineman to wear metal bars strapped to his legs and extending under the soles of
his boots, the bars being equipped with gaffs for digging into the pole. The
climbing action involves alternatively engaging one gaff and disengaging the
other. In a work position, the pole is engaged by both gaffs, and a safety strap is
wrapped around the pole to enable the lineman to work with both hands free.
Conventional pole climbing devices pose several problems, the main one being
the possibility of electrical shock. The wires on many utility poles are live
(carry electricity). If a lineman inadvertently touches a ground wire with the
gaff and brushes against a live wire, the result can be electrocution. A second
problem involves the limited support area provided by the conventional metal

bar. If a lineman is required to stand for any length of time on such bars, a
certain amount of discomfort and loss of circulation results. The problem is
particularly severe in cold climates.
Structures enabling people to climb various types of poles for different
reasons have been known for some time. For example, various arrangements
for climbing poles may be seen in US3968858; US4,527,660; and
US5,050,704. These various patents all relate to ways of climbing poles of
different types to perform work, each using some sort of safety line for
maintaining the person on the pole. All of these prior art type arrangements,
however, fail to allow the worker to work around the pole unless he were to
dismount the pole and start over again at a different spot.
In the patent US4572329 a structure is provided for climbing a rail-
type pole having a U-shaped runner to which a line is attached. The difficulty
with this type of prior art arrangement is the use of stepping shoe plates
mounted on runners fitted to the rail to move upwardly, as the worker moves
his feet. Also, this prior art type arrangement uses a rail-like member on which
the climbing structure is mounted, rather than having a cylindrical-like pole
structure like that used throughout the world.

According to the document US3957135 a device for climbing a tree,
pole, or other vertically elongated generally cylindrical device is disclosed
which comprises an operator's basket, a pair of identical hangers adapted to
encompass the object to be climbed, and to be adjustably supported at selected
elevations thereon, one above the other, and a block and tackle assembly which
the operator connects between the uppermost hanger and the basket to move the
basket with the operator therein relative to the uppermost hanger. The bottom
hanger is used to support the basket in a fixed position while the upper hanger
and upper block is repositioned further up the tree when climbing or further
. down the tree when descending. Alternate moving of the hangers, which
alternately supporting the basket from one and then the other of the hangers,
followed by raising or lowering the basket with the block and tackle assembly
enables the operator to climb or descend the tree.
The document CN203935575 describes the pair of anti-icing climbers for
the climb of an electric pole and belongs to the technical field of devices tied to
the feet and used for the climb of a cylinder. Each anti-icing climber comprises
a main arc hook, a pedal and an anti-skidding clamping board. Each pedal is
fixed to the upper end of the corresponding main arc hook and provided with a
belt ring, wherein each foot is tightly sleeved with the corresponding belt ring.
Each anti-skidding clamping board is fixed to the lower face of the
corresponding pedal and provided with detachable steel nails. In the ice period

in winter, the steel nails can be fastened and installed on the anti-skidding
clamping boards of the climbers, so that the anti-icing climbers are good in use
effect in work such as the winter overhaul and fault rush repair work. A
maintainer wears the climbers to climb the electric pole, the point ends of the
steel nails of the climbers can puncture an ice layer on the surface of the
electric pole, so that the climbers are clamped on the electric pole, and personal
safety of the maintainer can be guaranteed. In the seasons without ice or frost,
the steel nails are detached, and the climbers are used as common climbers
more conveniently.
According to the invention 2944/MUM/2013 claims an electric pole
climbing robot. The pole climbing robot has the capability to climb over the
poles and performs the desired task smoothly. Benefits include, compact body,
easy control, and good move characteristics.
The document 2650/CHENP/2012 states that a terminal for electrical
connections of the type comprising a shaped body substantially in the shape of
a C, suitable for coupling with the pole (P) of a battery; two projecting parallel
laminate element at the level of the open section of the C-shaped body ;
tightening means associated with the laminate elements for clamping the
shaped body around the pole (P) comprising one pair of inclined planes
provided outside the laminate elements, one pair of inclined counterplans in a
fork-shaped bod and screw means for mutually forcing the inclined planes and

the inclined counter planes; connection means associated with the shaped body
for connection to the end of one or more electric wires. In both the projecting
laminate elements there are counteracting projections suited to cooperate by
mutual contact when the tightening means lock the shaped body around the
pole.
The invention stated in CN201063429 discloses an anti-snake
climbing device for an electric pole is characterized in that: the device
comprises a deflecting baffle, wherein, the deflecting baffle is provided with a
trepan boring; the bottom of the deflecting baffle is provided with a protruding
rotation aid part; the deflecting baffle is sleeved on a sleeve, through the trepan
boring; moreover, the deflecting baffle is in movable connection with the
sleeve and can rotate relative to the sleeve. The utility model has the
advantages of simple structure and reliable use; meanwhile, the utility model is
convenient for installation and is provided with double barriers to effectively
prevent snakes from climbing to an electric pole along an electric power stay,
thereby avoiding line faults such as tripping to guarantee the safe operation of a
power network.
The other document CN201207551 describes an electric pole anti-
climbing canopy which relates to an electric pole auxiliary device for
transporting cement. The electric pole anti- climbing canopy adopts the

technique that the diameter side of the lower end surface of a semicircular pane
and the concave side with semicircle in shape at the center of the diameter side
are welded with a junction panel, and the middle of the panel is welded with a
strengthening rib panel; a bolt passes through a hole of the junction panel and a
hole of the other junction panel welded with the other semicircular panel to be
meshed with a nu. The electric pole anti- climbing-canopy utilizes two
semicircular panels which are blocked on a concrete pole and the bolt which
passes through the holes of the two junction panels to fix on the concrete pole
to form an umbrella-shaped barrier cover plate, so people can not easily climb
up and over. Simultaneously, the external circular arc edges of the semicircular
panels are in shape of teeth, and the panels are provided with vertical deltoid
plate structure, so people feel terrified to climb up and over. The utility model
has simple and compact structure, convenient manufacture and assembly,
evident use effect and the like.
The other document CN2765982 discloses a wire theft proof hoop rack
for an electric pole, which aims to provide the technology of the utility model
having the advantages of simple structure, reliable climbing prevention and
reliable wire theft prevention. The utility model can be realized by the
following technical schemes that at least three theft proof poles are fixed on the
outer wall of each hoop rack body; cambered fixed rings are fixed on the pole
of each of the theft proof poles; the climbing prevention and wire theft proof

hoop rack for each pair of the electric pole is uniformly formed by that two
hoop rack bodies are assembled and fastened by using hard and tough theft
proof screws and a special spanner of the theft proof screws. The utility model
is widely suitable for carrying out the theft prevention, fastening and
installation for high-altitude poles of the electric pole which is fixedly installed
in the outdoor section where the electric pole is easily stolen, and the utility
model can efficiently prevent thieves from cutting and selling cable conductors
with copper cores or aluminum cores in a stealing mode, wherein the thieves
climb, steal and cut electrical wires, and the safe operation of electricity can be
ensured.
