Electronic Star Delta Starter For Threephase Induction Motors

Abstract: We introduce this electronic smart Star-Delta starter which is cost efficient, efficient and easy to apply. The system is made to replace direct online starters that are readily implemented in all machines lower than 10HP. We targeted to make cost effective and innovative solutions for mass implementation of this product in various sectors, and came up with this product.

Specification

Description:

An innovation at start, this idea can be a bliss for the modern industrial era, Industry 4.0. The idea we propose here is a cost effective alternative to the conventional star delta starters that are used readily in industries for running press machines, pumps and compressors. This is an electronic star delta starter that uses a handful of components which can help make an industry ready product. Those are as follows: 1. Relays 2. Microcontroller 3. Current coil 4. Some other circuitry for phase protection Our idea here uses relays, grouped in sets of 3 each [101],[102],[103] for behaving as a contactor used in these conventional ones. Connected via flyback diodes for back emf protection to the controller. Other than these, we have implemented led indications[104], and circuitry using optocouplers for feedback to the controller regarding phase incoming [105]. For firing up the relays efficiently we tried a traditional way of using transistors but it doesn’t seem to work here, so, combination of optocouplers and mosfets were implemented here. We use a SMPS for controller supply which is in-built and doesn't require any special connections, as we take power from one of the phase inputs and a neutral for this purpose. For overload protection we skipped the traditional way of overload bimetal relay protection and went ahead with CT [106] coil method, as it helps us to monitor the input precisely at each moment for which the system is powered up. The main problems faced in these circuits is transient and input surge which greatly effects working of electronics circuitry, we solved that by implementing varistor in wye configuration [107]. There are various switches provided for emergency stop, start, stop which helps the operator to easily control the circuitry in all cases. Buzzer [108] alertness is also provided within the circuitry. At the heart of the circuitry lies a microcontroller[109] which controls every operation in the circuit. The system will be mounted on a PCB which gives added advantage of less resistive drop that’ll help in efficient working.

Claims:

The proposed invention, has several benefits over the conventional starter, which are:

1. Overload protection
2. 1 phasing protection
3. Low cost
4. Low maintenance
5. Easy to use
6. Critical maintenance specific data can be streamed over WiFi
7. PCB mounted setup which reduces the resistive drop seen across wiring these setups. 8. More efficient.
