Abstract: This elevator device is configured in such a manner that: an emergency stop device (15) for stopping the elevator car (9) in the case of an emergency is mounted on the elevator car (9); a rope (19) is arranged in a loop in the hoistway the rope (19) being connected to the elevator car (9); a tension sheave (20) around which the rope (19) is wrapped is disposed in the lower part of the hoistway; and a section (24) for detecting the displacement of the sheave is configured so as to detect the downward displacement of the tension sheave (20) caused by the fall of the elevator car due to the breakage of a suspension body and activate the emergency stop device (15).
