The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to enclosures. More particularly the invention relates to a locking mechanism for enclosures.
Background of the Invention
Conventional enclosures include a chassis and a top cover. The top cover is usually secured to the chassis with screws. Some of the enclosures have latching mechanism which is used to assemble to the chassis for releasing the top cover. When a pair of latches is assembled to the both sides of the chassis two hands are needed to release the latches. It is inconvenient to disassemble the top cover from the enclosure.
The prior art assemblies have top covers and Enclosure chassis that are locked in a manner that it uses a plurality of screws for locking the assembly which makes it time consuming to remove the top covers mounted on the enclosure chassis. Further too many screws occupy space which makes arrangement of components inside the enclosure difficult.
In view of the above mentioned problems it is required to formulate an improved assembling mechanism for enclosures.
Summary of the Invention
Accordingly the present invention provides a locking mechanism for enclosure the mechanism comprising a cover having atleast one protruded joggling portion; and an enclosure chassis having atleast one notch; wherein the protruded joggling portion of the cover is devised to act as a guide for the cover while assembling. The protruded joggling portion enables locating the notch for locking the cover to the enclosure chassis.
In an embodiment the present invention provides an enclosure comprising a chassis for retaining elements inside the enclosure; a top cover for mounting on the enclosure chassis; at least one protruded joggling portion at the top cover for guiding the cover; and at least one notch at the chassis for accommodating the protruded joggling portion; wherein the protruded joggling portion of the cover is positioned on the cover such that the protruded joggling portion enables locating the notch for locking the cover to the enclosure chassis.
The present invention is advantageous as it facilitates easy removal of cover from the enclosure chassis thereby saving time.
Brief description of the drawings
Reference will be made to embodiments of the invention examples of which may be illustrated in the accompanying figures. These figures are intended to be illustrative not limiting. Although the invention is generally described in the context of these embodiments it should be understood that it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to these particular embodiments.
Fig. 1 shows a locking mechanism for an enclosure in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 2a shows an enclosure with the locking mechanism in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 2b shows the enclosure in locking position in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention.
Description of the Invention
The following description with reference to the accompanying drawings is provided to assist in a comprehensive understanding of exemplary embodiments of the invention as defined by the claims and their equivalents. It includes various specific details to assist in that understanding but these are to be regarded as merely exemplary. Accordingly those of ordinary skill in the art will recognize that various changes and modifications of the embodiments described herein can be made without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. In addition descriptions of well-known functions and constructions are omitted for clarity and conciseness.
The terms and words used in the following description and claims are not limited to the bibliographical meanings but are merely used by the inventor to enable a clear and consistent understanding of the invention. Accordingly it should be apparent to those skilled in the art that the following description of exemplary embodiments of the present invention are provided for illustration purpose only and not for the purpose of limiting the invention as defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
It is to be understood that the singular forms “a ” “an ” and “the” include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
Various embodiments of the invention provide an enclosure and a locking mechanism for the enclosure. The locking mechanism comprises a cover having atleast one protruded joggling portion; and an enclosure chassis having atleast one notch; wherein the protruded joggling portion of the cover is devised to act as a guide for the cover while assembling the protruded joggling portion enables locating the notch for locking the cover to the enclosure chassis.
In an embodiment the present invention provides an enclosure comprising a chassis for retaining elements inside the enclosure; a cover for mounting on the enclosure chassis; at least one protruded joggling portion at the top cover for guiding the cover; and at least one notch at the chassis for accommodating the protruded joggling portion; wherein the protruded joggling portion of the cover is devised to act as a guide in order to locate the notch for locking the cover to the enclosure chassis.
Fig. 1 shows the locking mechanism 100a of the enclosure 100 in accordance with an embodiment of the invention. Enclosure 100 includes a chassis 110 a cover 120 for mounting on chassis 110 at least one protruded joggling portion 122 at the cover 120 at least one notch 112 at chassis 110 as shown in Fig. 2a.
Chassis 110 retains elements inside the enclosure 100. Protruded joggling portion 122 guides the cover 120. Notch 112 accommodates protruded joggling portion 122 for locking. Protruded joggling portion 122 of the cover 120 is positioned as shown in Fig. 1. The protruded portion 122 enables to locate the notch 122 for locking the cover 120 to the chassis 110.
In an embodiment the length 122a of the protruded joggling portion 122 is superior to the length 112a of the notch 112 thereby allowing the locking.
In an embodiment the protruded joggling portion 122 is preferably located at front end 120a of the cover 120.
In an embodiment the protruded joggling portion 122 is preferably U-shaped.
In an embodiment width 122b of the protruded juggling portion 122 is sufficient to hold on to the notch 112 when in locked position.
In an embodiment the enclosure 100 is a computer cabinet.
In an embodiment the protruded joggling portion 122 is preferably provided at front end 120a of the cover 120.
In an embodiment the enclosure 100 includes means 102 (102a 102b) for fastening screws for retaining the cover 120 on the enclosure chassis 110 as shown in Fig 2b.
In an advantageous aspect the locking mechanism of the present invention enables easy removal and mounting of the cover and auto locating the mounting holes to fasten the screws. Further the removal of the rear cover is easy as it doesn’t require any external tool or handle.
While the foregoing is directed to embodiments of the present invention other and further embodiments of the invention may be devised without departing from the basic scope thereof and the scope thereof is determined by the claims that follow.
