Abstract: The present subject matter relates to a cylinder head (100) for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder head (100) has a combustion chamber formed as an open cavity, an inlet port, an exhaust port (106), a first opening (108) and a second opening (110) adjacent to the first opening 5 (108). The exhaust port (106) is formed as a passage connecting the combustion chamber to a second wall of the cylinder head (100). The first opening (108) is connected to the combustion chamber to permit mounting of a combustion element (102). The second opening (110) is connected to the exhaust port (106) to permit mounting of a sensor (104). 10 Further, the second opening (110) is substantially perpendicular to the passage of the exhaust port (106) at a point of connection between the second opening (110) and the exhaust port (106).
1. A cylinder head (100) for an internal combustion engine, the cylinder
head (100) comprising:
a combustion chamber (300) formed as an open cavity (200);
5 an inlet port (302) formed as a passage connecting the
combustion chamber (300) to a first wall of the cylinder head (100);
an exhaust port (106) formed as a passage connecting the
combustion chamber (300) to a second wall of the cylinder head
(100); a first opening (108) connected to the combustion chamber
(300) to permit mounting of a combustion element (102); and
a second opening (110), adjacent to the first opening (108),
wherein the second opening (110) is connected to the exhaust port
(106) to permit mounting of a sensor (104), the second opening
15 (110) being substantially perpendicular to the passage of the
exhaust port (106) at a point of connection between the second
opening (110) and the exhaust port (106).
2. The cylinder head (100) assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein
20 the second opening (110) extends to be substantially parallel to an
opening of the open cavity (200) of the combustion chamber (300).
3. The cylinder head (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first
opening (108) and the second opening (110) are formed on same wall
25 (114) of the cylinder head (100).
4. The cylinder head (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sensor
(104) is a lambda sensor to measure oxygen concentration. 5. An engine assembly (500) comprising:
an engine block (502) having a cylinder bore;
a piston disposed in the cylinder bore;
5 a cylinder head (100) coupled to the engine block (502),
wherein the cylinder head (100) comprises:
an open cavity (200) to form a combustion chamber
(300) with the piston in a top dead center position of the
piston;
10 an inlet port (302) formed as a passage connecting the
open cavity (200) of the combustion chamber (300) to a first
wall of the cylinder head (100);
an exhaust port (106) formed as a passage connecting
the open cavity (200) of the combustion chamber (300) to a
15 second wall of the cylinder head (100);
a first opening (108) connected to the open cavity
(200) of the combustion chamber (300); and
a second opening (110), adjacent to the first opening
(108), wherein the second opening (110) is connected to the
20 exhaust port (106), to be substantially perpendicular to the
passage of the exhaust port (106) at a point of connection
between the second opening (110) and the exhaust port (106);
a combustion element (102) mounted in the first opening
25 (108); and
a sensor (104) mounted in the second opening (110) to
project into the exhaust port (106) perpendicular to the passage of
the exhaust port (106) at a point of projection. 6. The engine assembly (500) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the
second opening (110) extends to be substantially parallel to an opening
of the open cavity (200) of the combustion chamber (300), wherein the
5 sensor (104) mounted in the second opening (110) is substantially parallel
to the open cavity (200) in a mounted condition.7. The engine assembly (500) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the
combustion element (102) is one of a spark plug and a fuel injector.
10
8. The engine assembly (500) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the
sensor (104) is a lambda sensor to measure oxygen concentration.
9. The engine assembly (500) as claimed in claim 5, wherein the first
15 opening (108) and the second opening (110) are formed on same wall
(114) of the cylinder head (100).
