FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to engine mount and bracket assembly for
mounting engine in a vehicle.
BACKGROUND/PRIOR ART
Conventional bush type engine mount comprises an isolator bush (1)
accommodated in a cylindrical case, chassis side metal bracket (2) and a
stopper (3) on each side surface of the isolator as illustrated in fig. 1 and
lA. Engine mounting bracket (4) is connected to the isolator for assembly
with the stopper therebetween.
Primary function of the side stopper is to avoid metal to metal contact
between engine mounting bracket (4) and chassis side bracket (2) during
movement of engine.
In order to locate the bracket(4)at the desired position on the engine
mount for accurate mounting onto the engine during assembly, the
bracket (4) and engine mount are required to be sub-assembled offline
i.e. outside the assembly line by means of a jig (J) as in fig. 2. This is
followed by fitting of the complete assembly to vehicle online.
Assembly procedure is as follows:
- Loose fitting of engine mount bracket with engine mount using
center bolt;
- Mounting of above assembly on the fixture;
- Temporary tightening of all the fixture-side bolts;
- Obtaining the correct position followed by tightening center bolt
with specific torque value;
- Removal of assembled part from the fixture;
- Assembling of this part to the vehicle in assembly line.
-3-
The above known art is associated with drawbacks listed herein below:
- Time consuming assembly procedure
- Requires additional manpower
- Adds to cost
In view of the above, there is a requirement to have a provision so as to
address the aforesaid issues. Hence, the instant invention has been
introduced.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
A primary object of the present invention is to propose engine mount and
bracket assembly for mounting engine in a vehicle, which overcomes
disadvantages associated with the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to propose engine mount and
bracket assembly to assemble the engine mount bracket with engine
mount at appropriate position in assembly line itself.
Still another object of the present invention is to propose engine mount
and bracket assembly to avoid offline sub assembly of bracket with
engine mount.
Further object of the present invention is to propose engine mount and
bracket assembly for mounting engine in a vehicle, which is simiple in
construction and cost effective.
Yet another object of the present invention is to propose engine mount
and bracket assembly for mounting engine in a vehicle, which involves
less assembly time and less man power for assembly.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention, there is provided engine mount and bracket
assembly for mounting engine in a vehicle, wherein the engine mount
comprising a bracket for connection with chassis and an isolator bush,
side surface of which is provided with a novel side stopper, which is
assembled to a novel engine mount bracket.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION WITH
REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS;
The invention discloses engine mount and bracket assembly for a frontassembly
type mounting engine in a vehicle, which is illustrated in fig. 3,
wherein the bush type engine mount comprising isolator bush (1) and
chassis-side metal bracket (2) together with two novel side-stoppers (3)
assembled with novel engine mounting bracket (4).
The side-stopper and engine mounting bracket are devised, which will be
discussed herein below:
Referring to fig.4, the side stopper is integrated to a lug (L) at its one end
which is located on outer surface of stopper directing outward (when
fitted onto the isolator). The stopper is made of resilient material such as
rubber without restricting scope of the invention to the same.
The position of lug on the side stopper in such that it is symmetrical
about the longitudinal axis of the stopper. So that same side stopper can
be used on both sides of the engine mount. This leads to commonization
of the part as well as avoids confusion in assembly due to mixing up of
parts.
Now reference may be made to fig. 5.
A corresponding lug (M) is integrally provided with engine mounting
bracket (4) at both ends located on its open side. So that while
assembling the bracket (4) with engine mount, lug (M) of bracket rests
against the stopper's lug (L) at both front (F) and rear side (R) as shown
in fig. 5A.
-6-
The novel side stopper constitutes an anti-rotation stopper that holds
engine mounting bracket at the desired position and restricts its
movement due to gravity even after the loose insertion of the center bolt
therein. As can be observed in Fig. 6 the mount bracket automatically
adjusts itself and stops at the desired location due to the anti-rotation
stopper.
According to another embodiment of invention, which has been indicated
in fig. 7 the isolator bush side surface (S) can be integrated with a lug (L)
directing outward to pass through a slot (T) of the side stopper while
assembling together. The slot (T) is positioned at one end of stopper and
symmetrically about its longitudinal axis.
The above provision eliminates the requirement of a separate fixture (jig)
for sub assembling the engine mounting bracket with engine mount.
Further, the invention helps assembly of engine mount bracket with
engine mount in less time but with higher accuracy at vehicle assembly
line.
New process for the assembly is as follows: (Fig.6)
a. Fixing of engine mount on vehicle chassis.
b. Tightening of all the bolts (Chassis side).
c. Fixing of engine mount bracket to the engine mount using center
bolt.
Advantageous Features
- To assemble engine mount bracket with engine mount at
appropriate position in assembly line itself
- To avoid offline sub assembly of engine mount bracket with engine
mount.
-7-
- Less assembly time with high accuracy at assembly line of vehicle.
- Requires less man power as compared to existing assembly.
- Eliminates requirement of separate jig for sub assembly of engine
mount bracket with engine mount.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to
modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such
variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this
invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention,
which is further set forth under the following claims:-
