Specification

DESC:[001] The present disclosure generally relates to an engine mounted turbo coupled diesel oxidation catalyst system (DOC). More particularly, the present disclosure relates to an engine mounted turbo coupled diesel oxidation catalyst System to reduce the significant consumption and requirement of precious metal (PGM) in the in exhaust after treatment system and method of manufacturing thereof.
[002] In automobile sectors significantly reducing the load of PGM is a main requirement to attain good temperatures at DOC inlet to create necessary NOx conversion. Thereby the concept of close coupled engine mounted DOC can be evolved. Hence by close coupling of DOC, there is likely chances of reduction in the substrate size by more than half, we can be able to reduce volume of substrate from 3.5 L to 1.6 L and weight of DOC from 12 Kg to 4.5 kg, approximately. Further requirement would be to make assembly easily maintainable and light weight. Further since the DOC and SCR systems are separate; it is easy to handle the components with less manpower.
[003] Further to reduce the PGM content in the catalyst for saving the cost of substrate to a greater extent. In addition to it, there is a need of effective heat shield system for the high temperature application in a safety environment. Also, the packaging is a constraint as we need to use the exhaust heat only for letting happen the catalyst reactions.
[004]
[005] Therefore, there is an unmet need of cost effective, simple, user friendly engine mounted turbo coupled diesel oxidation catalyst system to reduce the significant consumption and requirement of precious metal (PGM) in the in exhaust after treatment system and method of manufacturing thereof.
[006] The present invention solves the aforementioned and other allied problems by the way of providing engine mounted turbo coupled diesel oxidation catalyst System to reduce the significant consumption and requirement of precious metal (PGM) in the in exhaust after treatment system and method of manufacturing thereof.
[007] The present invention designed a 4.5 Kg. DOC in comparison of 12 Kg. of Existing DOC which is heavy in weight and not compact in nature. As we know the effect of diameter in the volume of the substrate is having squared effect, so we reduce the diameter and increase the length with the optimization of cell density.
[008] The below illustration explained the substrate packaging front of the present invention vis-a-viz conventional and existing substrate packaging front.

[009] In one embodiment, the present invention provides the engine mounted DOC in commercial vehicle segment, wherein the close-coupled DOC at turbo end, enables to reduce the catalyst PGM loading by almost half. It also providing scope to the industry the reduce the quantity even more by optimizing the design. As the present system is a high temperature application system, which taking it in engine peripheral in vicinity of other components, so we have given good metallic heat shield which works on insulating both side heats.
