Specification

Field of invention
The present invention relates to engines:
In general and particularly the present invention relates to engme start
prevention systems and more particularly engine re-start prevention system and
method thereof.
Background of invention
Typically, diesel fuel has lubricating properties, where, an engine running on
inadequate amount of fuel cannot provide enough lubrication to various moving
parts in an automobile/vehicle/ machine that can cause wear and tear of parts of
a machine/vehicle/automobile. Eventually life of the engine is reduced.
Known US Patent No. 4878465 relates to control for automatically starting a
diesel engine, whereby, the apparatus includes start, preheat and run relays
whiCh respectively control the energization of a starting solenoid, glow plugs,
and a fuel solenoid. The energization of the start, preheat and run relays is
controlled by a control module which drives the preheat relay as soon as the
centrol module is energized. The glow plug preheat time is measured, and the
run and start relays are respectively energized just prior to, and at the
termination of the preheat time. Engine cranking time and speed are monitored,
dropping the start and preheat relays when the engine starts, and also when the
2
engme speed fails to reach certain thresholds within first and second
predetermined periods of time. The run relay continues to energize an electrical
circuit which includes an engine reset switch and a low oil pressure switch. The
engine reset switch de-energizes the control module, and thus the run relay, in
the event the engine fails to start. However, the apparatus fails to disclose
prevention of engine cranking and preventing engine start at low fuel supply.
Know DS Patent No.6969923 relates to an engine start system includes a starter
starting an engine, a starter drive relay controlling the starter and an engine
ECD connected to a starter switch for controlling on/off of the starter drive relay
based on a predetermined start condition. The engine start system further
includes.a normally closed relay cQnnectedto the starter switch, the engine ECD
and the starter for establishing a,de-energized state between the starter switch
and the starter upon energization from the engine ECD to an exciting coil and
establishing an energized state between the starter switch and the starter upon
de-energization of the exciting coil. The engine ECD includes a circuit
energizing the exciting coil of the normally closed relay upon turn-on of the
engine ECD. However, the system fails to disclose prevention of engine
cranking and preventing engine start at low fuel supply
3
In VIew of above, need is felt for a system which overcomes above
disadvantages and prevents engine from cranking, thus eliminating engine
starting at low fuel level/supply.
We shall now describe the invention with reference to accompanying drawings
which are given by way of illustration but does not restrict the scope of present
invention.
Brief description of accompanying drawings
Figure 1 relates to an engine start prevention system in accordance with an
embodiment of the present invention.
D~tailed description of accompanying drawings
The present invention relates to protection of diesel powered mechanical
internal combustion (IC) engines by preventing engine start up at inadequate
amount of fuel for vehicle/machine/automobile. Embodiments of the present
invention include IC engine for a technically satisfactory and economically
advantageous system performance.
Figure 1 illustrates a system 100 that prevents engme starting when fuel
levellsupply is low, wherein, a Neutral Start Relay/electrical switch 105 is deenergized
when the fuellevellsupply is low. The low level of fuel is sensed by a
Fuel.Level Sensor installed in the fuel tank. When the fuel level falls below a
4
particular level, the contacts of the low fuel switch 102 get closed, energizing
the low fuel restart relay/electrical switch 110 which in turn de-energizes the
neutral start relay/electrical switch 105 and hence preventing the engine from
being cranked. A low fuel warning of LED light and buzzer is generated by low
fuel warning time unit 115 such that the operator knows the reason of the engine
not getting cranked.
In an embodiment, an engine start prevention system is disclosed, the system
includes a low fuel restart relay configured to energize when contacts of a low
fuel switch closed; and a neutral .startrelay configured to de-energize responsive
to energ~zingof said low fuel restart relay for preventing engine cranking.
According to present invention there is provided engine re-start prevention
system and method thereof comprising a system (100) that prevents engine
starting when fuel level/supply is low, wherein, a neutral start relay/electrical
switch (105) is de-energized when the fuel level/supply is low, the low level of
fuel is sensed by a Fuel Level Sensor installed in the fuel tank, when the fuel
level falls below a particular level, the contacts of the low fuel switch (102) get
closed, energizing the low fuel restartrelay/electrical switch (110) which in turn
de-energizes the neutral start relay/electrical switch (105) and hence preventing
the engine from being cranked, a low fuel warning of LED light and buzzer is
generated by low fuel warning time unit (115).
5
The system includes a low fuel restart relay configured to energIze when
contacts of a low fuel switch closed and a neutral start relay configured to deenergize
responsive to energizing of said low fuel restart relay for preventing
engine cranking.
A prevention system which includes a low fuel restart relay configured to
energize when contacts of a low fuel switch closed; and a neutral start relay
configured to de-energize responsive to energizing of said low fuel restart relay
for preventing engine cranking
Advantages of the present system include prevention of engine cranking at low
fuellevelby de-energizing the neutral start relay.
Based on the foregoing, it should now be understood and appreciated that the
systems and methods of the pres~rii invention provides numerous advantages
and cost savings. Furthermore, although the preferred embodiment of the
apparatus of the present invention have been illustrated in the accompanying
Drawings and described in the foregoing Detailed Description, it is understood
that the invention is not limited to the embodiment disclosed, but is capable of
numerous rearrangements, modifications and substitutions without departing
from the spirit of the invention as herein described.

WE CLAIM:
1. Engine re-start prevention system and method thereof comprising a
system (100) that prevents engine starting when fuel level/supply is low,
wherein, a neutral start relay/electrical switch (105) is de-energized when the
fuel level/supply is low, the low level of fuel is sensed by a Fuel Level Sensor
installed in the fuel tank, when the 'fuel level falls below a particular level, the
contacts of the low fuel switch (102) get closed, energizing the low fuel restart
relay/electrical switch (110) which in turn de-energizes the neutral start
relay/electrical switch (105) and hence preventing the engine from being
cranked, a low fuel warning of LED light and buzzer is generated by low fuel
warning time unit (115).
