External Body Fiducial Marker Belt

Abstract: The present invention provides an external body fiducial marker belt. While the patient lies on the couch there are three LASERs present, one on each side wall and one on ceiling helps to position the patient accurately. In the Simulator machine room when patient lies, the lasers are marked on the immobilization device i.e. cast or cushion. These markings need to be visible on the CT image set of the patient so to make it visible one small lead ball is affixed on the marking point. Three marking so three small lead balls need to be affixed on the immobilization device. It has been observed that these three small lead balls are not appear in one single CT slice which creates some error in patient positioning for treatment. This becomes the base of the invention of the external body marker belt device. Figure 1

However, it should be appreciated that the discussion is not an acknowledgment or admission that any of the material referred to was published, known, or part of the common general knowledge in any jurisdiction as of the priority date of the application. The details provided herein the background if belongs to any publication is taken only as a reference for describing the problems, in general terminologies or principles or both of science and technology in the associated prior art.
[003] The patient lie down on the couch of the Simulator for CT scan, required for the treatment planning and treatment delivery in the Linear Accelerator machine. The LASERs are present in the CT Simulator and Linear Accelerator Room for patient positioning. The immobilization device like cast and cushions are prepared for individual patient and while it is used on patient, LASERs are utilized to position the patient accurately. There are three marking points on the cast/ cushion where small lead balls are affixed for generating a reference point which helps in shifting machine iso-center to the tumor center for treatment. It has been observed that these three small lead balls are not appear in single CT slice which create errors in giving the reference point for patient treatment.
[004] In light of the foregoing, there is a need for the External body fiducial marker belt that overcomes problems prevalent in the prior art. The belt can be designed which will have three small lead balls with scale and fixing mechanism with patient base plate. This belt will remove the error of lead ball fixing on the cast/ cushion for a patient. The single belt can be utilized in any patient which is to be plan for external beam radiotherapy treatment.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
[005] Some of the objects of the present disclosure, which at least one embodiment herein satisfies, are as follows.
[006] The principal object of the present invention is to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art by providing the External body fiducial marker belt.
[007] An object of the present invention is to provide the external body fiducial marker belt that can be fit on the cast and cushion in the patient.
[008] Another object of the present invention is to provide the external body fiducial marker belt that is having small lead balls with scale to properly mark the LASERs position.
[009] Another object of the present invention is to provide the external body fiducial marker belt that is cost-effective and easy to place in the patient.
[010] Another object of the present invention is to provide the external body fiducial marker belt that is very helpful in the cancer patient treatment with accurate position.
[011] Other objects and advantages of the present disclosure will be more apparent from the following description, which is not intended to limit the scope of the present disclosure.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[012] The present invention provides an external body fiducial marker belt.
[013] In one aspect of the present invention, the marked belt includes a base plate; and a belt with three fiducial makers having lead scale markings thereon.
[014] In another aspect of the present invention, the belt’s end is fixed in the base plate.
[015] In another aspect of the present invention, the belt is made with a minimum radiation absorption material.
[016] In another aspect of the present invention, the belt is flexible to take the shape of the patient body contour.
[017] In another aspect of the present invention, the small lead balls are affixed over the patient immobilization device manually.
