Abstract: A fender assembly that can be detachably attached to a body of a vehicle is disclosed herein. The fender assembly comprises a fender, a fender finisher and a means for attaching the fender finisher to the fender. The fender is adapted to cover a wheel of the vehicle, leaving sufficient space for the wheel to move freely. The front side of the fender is adapted for being detachably attached to the frame of the body. The bottom side of the fender is adapted for being detachably attached to the fender finisher. A first end of fender finisher is detachably attached to fender by the attaching means. A second end of fender finisher is adapted for being detachably attached to body.

PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION The following specification describes the invention
Field of Invention
The present invention relates to fender assembly of a motor vehicle. The present invention more particularly relates to assembly of plurality of separate fender pieces of a motor vehicle. Background
Flared Fenders or any such similar fender extension pieces are installed around wheel opening area of a motor vehicle, thereby forming vehicle extensions members. Fender extensions are usually made from a single piece of sheet metal or molded plastic. They are attached to the vehicle body along the edge of each wheel opening area by means of fastening elements known in the art.
Generally such flared fenders of single piece sheet metal are prone to defects such as metal shearing, wrinkles etc. Also they are prone to damages mostly at the lower most portion of fender body that is close to ground level. This may be due to various reasons such as prolonged off-road driving in muddy and marshy lands. In many off-road trucks and pick up vehicles, formation of dents and breaking of fender bottom is also apparent. Moreover, generally known multi piece fender assemblies have their vehicle extension members as part of door which is in close proximity. Thus, for bigger motor vehicles such as trucks and pick-ups it is highly unlikely to have multi piece flexible fender assembly as doors are not in close proximity.
There is therefore a need to provide a fender assembly for a motor vehicle with two or more pieces that overcomes the above said drawbacks.
Object of the Invention
An object of the present invention is to provide a fender finisher component for a flared fender of a motor vehicle.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an easily serviceable flared fender and fender finisher assembly of a motor vehicle.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a fender finisher component of a motor vehicle that is durable in all conditions.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a flared fender and fender finisher assembly that augment styling and appearance aspects of a motor vehicle.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to certain embodiments as hereinafter, the invention is not limited to the embodiments. Various other embodiments of the invention will be apparent to a person skilled in the art or follow from routine experimentation.
Description
Fig.l shows a vehicle fender body with respect to one embodiment of the present invention wherein both the front and rear ends of fender body 101 & 102 are provided with a curvature to accommodate bumper assembly and the front door respectively in case of front fender assembly. Similarly rear fender body is constructed in such a manner so as to accommodate a loading area in case of vehicles such as trucks or pick-ups. The lower portion of fender body, hereinafter called as flared fender 103 that is just above wheel opening area 302 (shown in Fig.3) is flared to accommodate the wide diameter of wheel (not shown in Figure) and for other aesthetic purposes. The front 104
and rear 105 end of flared fender 103 is straightened to accommodate the periphery of wheel. The front of flared fender 104 is attached to the bumper assembly (not shown in Figure) by means of bumper mounting bosses 106, while the rear of flared fender 105 is connected with a fender finisher 201 (shown in Fig.2) by means of fender finisher mounting bosses 107. The fender body 101 & 102 and the flared fender 103 are made of a sheet metal with respect to this embodiment of the present invention. Body of fender assembly is also made of other materials such as plastic, modified rubber or any other vinyl compounds with respect to other embodiments of the present invention.
A fender finisher 201 as shown in Fig.2 is a plastic molded component with respect to one embodiment of the present invention. Plastic body of fender finisher 201 prevents the fender finisher component from shearing, wrinkles, crackdown and other defects. Fig.2 also shows fender finisher mounts 202.
A flared fender and fender finisher assembly with respect to one embodiment of the present invention is shown in Fig.3. The flared fender 103 is attached with a fender finisher component 201 at the rear end of the flared fender at a fender finished joint portion 301 by means of easily serviceable fastening means. Wheel opening area 302 of the flared fender 103 follows the same curvilinear path contiguously to that of the fender finisher 201 so as to accommodate the wheel. The durability of the fender finisher component is drastically improved by means of using a plastic component with respect to this embodiment of the present invention.
The fender finisher 201 component of the present invention is also made of other materials and is coated with poly vinyl coating with respect to another embodiment of the present invention.
It is reiterated that the present invention is not limited to the above embodiments. Various other embodiments of the invention will be apparent to a person skilled in the art or follow from routine experimentation.
