Abstract: A footrest sleeve assembly for each side of a motorcycle comprising a holder member of square section provided on each side of the said vehicle; a sleeve inserted over each holder member, said sleeve being characterised by an internal splined cut-out having eight spaced roots and an equal number of alternate crests, said roots and crests extending from one end to the other end of the sleeve, the roots being beatable on the four edges of the said holder and thus adjustable in position to provide a predetermined inclination.
This invention relates to a footrest sleeve assembly for a motor cycle. More particularly, the footrest pertaining to this invention is one on which the feet of the pillion rideTare placed when the vehicle is in motion.
The conventional footrest assembly consists of a holder tube of square section over which a sleeve made of a flexible material, such as, rubber or synthetic resin is provided to dampen vibration. The position of the pillion footrest with respect to the seat and with respect to the ground is economically important and depends upon the vehicle geometry. If the inclination of the pillion footrest with respect to the ground is 45 degrees or 90 degrees it is possible to use the same sleeve on both the sides of the motorcycle. However, in the case of footrests which are at inclinations different from 45 degrees or 90 degrees it is necessary to use different sleeves, one for the left side of the vehicle and another for the right side. This results in two sets of dies, loss of interchangeability, higher inventory and so on.
It is therefore the object of this invention is to overcome the above problem by proposing a footrest assembly which makes it possible to use sleeves of the same construction on both sides of the vehicle regardless of the inclination of each footrest.
The footrest sleeve assembly for each side of a motorcycle, according to this invention, comprises a holder member of square section provided on each side of
the said vehicle; a sleeve inserted over each holder member, said sleeve being characterised by an internal splined cut-out having eight spaced roots and an equal number of alternate crests, said roots and crests extending from one end to the other end of the sleeve, the roots being beatable on the four edges of the said holder and thus adjustable in position to provide a predetermined inclination.
This invention will now be described in further detail by reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example one of various possible embodiments of the proposed footrest assembly, wherein
Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate the holder and sleeve in section, with the sleeve inserted
over the holder, Fig. 1 showing the view at section line BB of Fig.2
And
Fig. 3 illustrates a separate view of the sleeve in section depicting the roots and
crests.
The footrest sleeve assembly for each side of a motorcycle comprises a holder member H of square section provided on each side of the said vehicle.
A sleeve S is inserted over each holder member H. The sleeve has an internal splined cut-out having eight spaced roots R and an equal number of alternate crests C, said roots and crests extending from one end to the other end of the sleeve such that the roots R are beatable on the four edges E of the said holder member H and thus adjustable in position to provide a predetermined inclination of the foot rest.
The terms and expressions herein are of description and not of limitation, having regard to the scope and ambit of this invention.
We Claim:
1. A footrest sleeve assembly for each side of a motorcycle comprising a holder member of square section provided on each side of the said vehicle; a sleeve inserted over each holder member, said sleeve being characterised by an internal splined put-out having eight spaced roots and an equal number of alternate crests, said roots and crests extending from one end to the other end of the sleeve, the roots being locatable on the four edges of the said holder and thus adjustable in position to provide a predetermined inclination.
2. A footrest sleeve assembly as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the sleeve is made of a flexible material.
3. A footrest sleeve assembly substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
