A large demand exists for tubes of metal having simple or complex
curvatures for use in the manufacture of military aircraft, boats, land vehicles and
the like and for apparatus that is capable of producing such tubular section in a
15 minimum amount of time and at low cost and without any new capital investment.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an apparatus that is capable of
producing formed tubular cylindrical section.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to the methods and apparatus for forming the trailing
25 edge of the thin tube in symmetrical shapes and more particularly relates to an
efficient relatively low cost apparatus for forming thin tubes.
An object of the present invention is to provide apparatus which is capable
of forming of thin tubes sheets into a wide variety of curved forms. Another
object of the invention is to provide apparatus that can be adjusted easily to

the hollow tube.
In accordance with second aspect of present invention is to provide
40 smaller equipment for the forming of tube.
Annexure‐II
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide
inflexible forming roller apparatus.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
5 forming roller that permits symmetrical forming of hollow tubes to fabricate
various components of SU-30 Aircraft.
In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
forming roller apparatus that can be attached to the conventional lathe machine
to produce the article of symmetrical shapes.
10 In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
forming roller apparatus that can be hold and attached, properly and effectively to

In accordance with yet another aspect of present invention is to provide a
forming roller apparatus that can be used to properly and effectively hold the
15 work piece on a conventional lathe machine by lesser skilled individuals.
Briefly, the present invention is a straight, forming roller utilized for
supporting and forming of the leading or trailing edge of the thin tube in
symmetrical shape. The forming roller apparatus includes a hardened roller &
axel which is coupled to the tool post of the conventional lathe machine and
20 supporting bung which is attached to the chuck of the conventional lathe
machine. Thus, energizing the lathe machine causes the rotation of tubular work
piece and by applying manual or automated feed to compound and cross slide of
the lathe, desired forming is achieved.
To reduce as much as possible the weight of the forming roller apparatus,
25 it’s roller surface is preferably fabricated as small as possible making the forming
roller apparatus as small and as light as possible while maintaining its rigidity
facilitates obtaining more symmetrical forming over a large range of diameter.
The Hc.Hcr Alloy is used for the fabrication of roller to achieve the light weight,
high rigidity and wearing surface characteristic. The EN8 is used to fabricate the
30 other component of the tool like axel and shank to provide the rigidity and
economical fabrication of tool.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
20
Referring now to FIGS. 1, 2, 3, & 4 the present invention is a forming roller
apparatus 8 adapted for use with a conventional Lathe Machine 9, e.g., an
machine that is having an rotating head for Securely holding the wok piece and a
tool post that is capable of holding and providing the longitudinal and cross feed
25 to the forming roller apparatus of the type manufactured by SCHAUBLIN And
identified by model number SCH 150.
Forming roller apparatus 8 is designed to form the leading edge of the thin
tube shaped work piece supported on a supporting bung in rotating head of lathe
30 machine with the help of collate or chuck.
Forming roller apparatus 8 comprises a roller 1 having a super finished
spherical surface 10 to eliminate any machining line. Roller 1 is made from a
material having suitable strength, hardness and surface wearing characteristics,
35 such as HcHcr plate of diameter 45 mm and having a thickness of about 7 mm.
Forming roller apparatus 8 comprises Axel 3 made of EN8 hardened and
grind up to 40-45 Rc means for securing and attaching roller 1 with the axel
through a standard bearing having an OD of 19 mm, ID of 7 mm and thickness of
40 6 mm. roller 1 is fastened to the axel 3 by mechanical mean with the help of
Annexure‐II
standard cheese head Screw 5 of M3 X 8 long. Axel 3 is further attached to the
shank 6 made of EN8 ,through a hole 12 of diameter 10H7 and threaded hole 11
of M6 and a standard Allen head screw 7 of M 6 X 15 mm.
5
As noted above, forming roller apparatus 8 is adapted to be attached to
the tool post of a conventional lathe machine. It is desired to attach forming roller
apparatus 8 to the tool post 9 by conventional means, e.g. by fastening of shank
6 to the tool post 9 by means of conventional fasteners. To enable the
10 conventional means of fastening, shank is made of square cross section of 20
mm that is suitable to fit in tool post and facilitate the roller’s centre alignment
with the rotating chuck centre of lathe machine.
To use the forming roller apparatus 8 of the present invention, shank 6 is
15 attached to tool post of lathe machine 9 by conventional means, e.g. by bolting
the shank 6 to the tool post 9. Because axel 3 and roller 1 is attached to the
shank 6, any moment given to tool post will translate to roller which forms the
trailing edge of the thin tube.
