Specification

[001] The present invention relates to a putty composition and in particular to a fragrant putty composition.
BACKGROUND
[002] Putty refers to a white cement-based coating material used for building structures. It is white cement based fine powder which provides an ideal finishing for concrete/cement plastered walls and ceiling. It provides an ideal base for painting. Also it is a high grade quality based on RD polymers, and high cement content to provide excellent smoothing and filling properties to small halls cracks.
[003] Typical putty composition mainly includes white cement and dolomite & calcite Putty is usually applied on inner and outer walls and a ceiling of a building. After the application, the putty coating is cured or may be coated with paint as a finishing.
[004] The demand for wall putty is always on the higher side due to its heavy consumption. As the construction work and industrialization is our country is being done in rapid strides, this eventually leads to higher consumption of putty. In future, the constructions and industrial buildings, etc. are likely to increase tremendously as a result the demand will increase simultaneously.
[005] Putty is generally made up of base-material like cement, filler & different polymers and etc. Due to the different ingredients, the wall putty when applied on to a surface emits unpleasant odor from the wall surface. This also causes an unpleasant experience to the professionals coating a wall with putty resulting in decreased efficiency.
[006] In order to solve the problem, efforts were made to provide wall putty with no odor. However, even with continous effors, the no odor wall putty has limitations. Accordingly there is a need for a putty composition to overcome the above limitations.

OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[007] An object of the invention is to provide a fragrant coating composition with high strength, water resistance and whiteness, thereby solving the problem existing of the putty composition.
[008] Another object of the invention is to provide a process for manufacturing the fragrant coating composition of the presnet invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[009] Thus, the present inventors studied a composition for wall putty in order to improve the above-described problems and provide a fragrant coating composition by bleding a specific range of fragrant with the putty composition thereby eliminating the problem of odor.
[010] In order to solve the above technical problem, the technical solution of the present invention is a fragrant coating composition comprising:
a) a cementitious material in an amount in the range 12 % to 20 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition;

c) at least one gelling agent gelling agent in an amount in the range 0.2 % to 0.5 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition;
d) at least one filler material in an amount in the range 70 % to 90 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition; and
e) at least one source of fragrance in an amount in the range 0.01 % to 0.5 % by weight based on the total weight of the composition.
[011] In another aspect, the invention provide a process for manufacturing the fragrant coating composition comprises of:
a) providing a mixture of cementitious material and at least one filler;
b) adding at least one source of fragrance to the mixture of step (a); and
c) adding at least one binder and at least one gelling agent to the mixture of step (b) and homogenizing the mixture.
[012] In an aspect, in step (b) the fragrance is sprayed to the mixture of cementitious material and at least one filler.

WORKING EXAMPLES
EXAMPLE 1:

a) 160 g of white cement was mixed with 819 g of dolomite, by weight of the composition.
b) To this dry mix, 17 g of vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer, 4 g of methyl hydroxyl ethyl cellulose, were added, by weight of the composition.
c) A skim coat dry mix composition having no Odour of fragrance.
d) This dry mix was reconstituted in water and the paste was coated on the walls prior to painting.

b) To this dry mix, 17 g of vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer, 4 g of methyl hydroxyl ethyl cellulose and 0.6g of fragrance were added, by weight of the composition.
c) A skim coat dry mix composition having pleasant Odour of fragrance.
d) This dry mix was reconstituted in water and the paste was coated on the walls prior to painting.
.

EXAMPLE 3:

a) 160 g of white cement was mixed with 814 g of dolomite, by weight of the composition.
b) To this dry mix, 17 g of vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer, 4 g of methyl hydroxyl ethyl cellulose and 5g of fragrance were added, by weight of the composition.
c) A skim coat dry mix composition having very high Odour of fragrance.
d) This dry mix was reconstituted in water and the paste was coated on the walls prior to painting.

Table 1 provides the properties of the skim coat composition of examples 1-3.

Duration of fragrance Odour (Hrs.) stability after application @ wall surface No smell Pleasant Odour Upto 36-48 Hrs. Very high smell

[034] The Cement contents (16%), vinyl acetate ethylene copolymer contents (1.7%), MHEC contents (0.4%), Mineral Fillers like calcite, dolomite contents (approx. 82%) are similar & used fragrance is 0.00 %, 0.06 % & 0.5 % respectively for example 1,2 &3. The outcomes are as under

[035] From table 1, it is inferred that, when no source of fragrance is used, the skim coat dry mix composition have no fragrance (Example 1). This is unpleasant to the end users during application of putty in a surface. In Example 2, when 0.06% fragrance is used, skim coat dry mix composition emits pleasant fragrance. This will inturn make the end users feel good during application of putty thereby increasing the work efficiency. In example 3, when high amount of fragrance, i.e., when 0.5% of higher is uses, the skim coat dry mix composition emits very high fragrance which causes irritation to eye of the applicators.

[036] Other technical properties like tensile adhesion strength at 28 days, water capillary absorption are similar to putty composition without fragrance. This suggest that the fragrance does not have negative impact on the adhesive strength of the putty.
