Frame Assembly

Field of the Invention:

This invention relates to frame assembly and more particularly to a frame assembly for a scooter type vehicle.

Background of the Invention:

Scooter type vehicles include a frame which usually supports a body of the scooter along with front and rear wheels of the scooter. The frame typically extends from a forward end to rearward end and forms substantially a U shape.

Generally a scooter frame assembly is constructed of welded assembly of individual tubular members. Typically a central portion will have two side rails which extend upwardly and rearwardly, which are vertically aligned and laterally spaced. The starting ends of the said side rails are welded to a down pipe which extends downwardly and rearwardly from head pipe of the vehicle. In this type of construction the method of flattening the side rails and getting it welded to the down pipe leads to manufacturability difficulties and inconsistency in getting final dimension. This inconsistency in the dimensions will lead to uneven gap between the side panels and other panel members which are assembled to the frame structure This will further lead to vibration of panels and noise and also leads to poor aesthetic appeal.

Summary of the Invention:

An object of the present is to provide an improved frame assembly for a scooter vehicle which has the ease of manufacturability thereby overcoming the above problems.

Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Brief Description of the Drawings:

The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
Figure 1 illustrates a conventional scooter.

Figure 2 illustrates a frame assembly for a scooter vehicle in accordance with one embodiment of the present subject matter.

Detail Description of the Invention:

The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with different embodiments. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather those embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.

With reference to Figure 1, , a front wheel, 2 denotes a front fork, 3 denotes a front fender, 4 denotes a front cover, 5 denotes a leg shield made of resin or metal, 6 denotes a handle bar cover, 7 denotes a headlight, 8 denotes a handle bar ,17 denotes a rear fender and 18 denotes tail lamp.

The center of the body forms a low floor board 9 for functioning as a part for putting feet and a under cowl 10 which is located below the rider’s seat and covers at least a part of the engine, The under cowl is made up of metal or resin. The under cowl is hinged to the seat 11. A utility box 12 opens from the rear end to hinged portion. The utility box 12 is provided under the seat extending longitudinally of a vehicle body and the inside of the utility box has a large capacity so that a large article can be housed. A main frame 14 extended along the center of the body before and behind and made of a metallic pipe and is provided under the floor board 9. A swing type power unit 13 is coupled to the rear end of the main frame 14.

A rear wheel 15 is supported on one side of the rear end of the swing type power unit 13. The swing type power unit 13 is suspended in the rear of a body frame.

The side covers 16 both on left and right sides, covers the utility box 12 and other parts of the vehicle, thereby providing a good appearance to the vehicle.

According to the present invention and referring to Figure 2, a frame assembly 200 for a scooter vehicle having floor board 204 comprising: a head pipe 201; a down pipe 202 extending downwardly and rearwardly from head pipe 201; a bridge member 203 located in the floor board portion 204 and placed perpendicular to the down pipe 202 wherein the down pipe 202 is welded to the bridge member 203 at the midway; at least two side rails 205 extending upwardly and rearwardly from the sides of the bridge member 203 and extends beyond the bridge member 203 on the front side ( direction marked as A); one secondary bridge 206 placed parallely before the bridge member 203 on the front side (direction marked as A); and at least one interconnecting tube 207 connecting two side rails 205 to the secondary bridge 206. The said down pipe 202 extends beyond the bridge member 203 on the rear side (opposite to direction A). The said secondary bridge 206 is connected to the down pipe 202.The said side rails in this construction is not required to get welded to down pipe directly thereby eliminating the flattening of side rails. Further dimensional consistency is achieved resulting in proper matching of side panels with
frame structure which further eliminates the vibration and uneven gap from the side panels.

Although embodiments for frame assembly have been described in the language specific to structural features, it is to be understood that the invention is not necessarily limited to the specific features described. Rather such variations in features areThot to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.

We Claim:

1. A frame assembly 200for a scooter vehicle having floor board comprising:

a head pipe 201;

a down pipe 202 extending downwardly and rearwardly from head pipe 201;

a bridge member 203 located in the floor board portion 204 and placed perpendicular to the down pipe 202 wherein the down pipe 202 is welded to the bridge member 203 at the midway;

at least two side rails 205 extending upwardly and rearwardly from the sides of the bridge member 203 and extends beyond the bridge member 203 on the front side;

one secondary bridge 206 placed parallely before the bridge member 203 on the front side; and

at least one interconnecting tube 207 connecting two side rails 205 to the secondary bridge 206.

2. The frame assembly 200 as claimed in claim 1, wherein the downpipe 202 extends beyond the bridge member 203 on the rear side.

3. The frame assembly 200 as claimed in claim 1, wherein the secondary bridge 206 is connected to the down pipe 202.

4. A frame assembly 200 as substantially shown and described in the specification.
