Frame Cover for Motorcycle
Field of the Invention:
The present subject matter in general, relates to "Frame Cover for Motorcycle" and more particularly relates to frame cover mounting arrangements on to the motorcycle.
Background of the Invention:
Generally, a portion between handle bar and seat in a motorcycle is used to dispose a fuel tank. The fuel tank runs longitudinally in vehicle body frame direction and is mounted to the frame of the motorcycle. A conventional fuel tank outer is made of two pieces left and right welded together. The fuel tank inner is made of a single part and is welded along with the said welded fuel tank outer. Typically a reinforcement plate and C shaped bracket is welded along with the fuel inner and is sealed in the frame by means of rubber cushion. In order to avoid corrosion of fuel tank coated sheet is preferably used which is a costly material, but since that fuel tank per se is formed by seam welding, there is a inherent problem of corrosion after long use, which calls for replacement of fuel tank in course of time. Further, this type of fuel tank is being used also as an aesthetics part thereby the profile and shape of tank demands high tool cost for manufacturing. In the event of low volume production, the returns of investment will be high. With the kind of construction of fuel tank, there yet remains a need for an attractive cover for motorcycle which can be easily modified independent of fuel tank. In some motorcycle when the fuel tank is disposed in some other location other than in a location between the handle bar and seat, then there is a need to provide a cover over the frame.
Therefore, a need exists for a cover capable of being mounted to the motorcycle frame and can be configured for different sizes and styles.
Summary of the Invention:
The present invention has been devised in view of the above said requirement and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a frame cover for motorcycle which can be interchanged easily between motorcycles having different frame configurations with one main tube.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a frame cover which covers the main tube between the handle bar and the seat of the motorcycle.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a cover which can be easily designed to provide an ornamental design to a motorcycle as part of an overall design.
Further object of the present invention is to provide a cover which can also be used over a fuel tank.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a frame cover which can protect the frame or any other parts disposed underneath like fuel tank or battery from scratches or any external impact.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Detail Description of the Drawings:
The present invention now will be described more fully hereinafter with different embodiments. This invention may, however, be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather those embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.
The subject matter of present invention relates to seat base structure for two wheelers. For the purpose of illustration, it is described with the help of a motorcycle.
With reference to figure 1 a motorcycle comprises of a frame (101), front fork (102) attached to a pivot tube (201) of the vehicle frame, a front wheel (103) attached to these front forks (102), a handle bar (104) connected to the front forks (102), a fuel tank (105) attached so as to straddle an upper part of the vehicle frame, a seat (106) attached to the upper rear portion of the vehicle frame, an engine unit (107) attached to the lower front section of the vehicle frame, a swing arm (108) attached to a lower rear section of the vehicle frame, suspended by a rear shock absorber (not shown) from the vehicle frame and a rear wheel attached to a rear end of swing arm (108). The intake system of the engine comprises of a fuel air metering device such as a carburetor (109), intake duct and an air cleaner. The exhaust system of the engine comprises of exhaust pipe and a muffler. The motorcycle is also provided with a side cover for covering a side section of the vehicle frame, a seat cover for covering a rear section of the vehicle frame below the seat, a front fender (110) for covering an upper part of the front wheel (103), and a rear fender (111) for covering an upper part of the rear wheel (112). The drive from the engine (107) is transmitted from the engine to the driven wheel sprocket mounted on the rear wheel hub mounted on the rear wheel assembly.
The body frame of the motorcycle includes a head pipe/ steering pivot/pivot tube at the front end of the body frame. From the top portion of the head pipe one main tube (201) extends backwards.and obliquely downwards. Both sides of the lower portion of the main tube is provided with a bracket for rear engine mounting. A tube centre stand is disposed horizontally at the lower portion of the main tube extending outward through an opening on the two sides of the bracket.
From the lower portion of the head pipe a pair of left and right down tubes extends obliquely downward and backward, while extending parallel in the direction towards the rear engine mounting bracket. The end portion of the said down tubes is welded to the said tube centre stand.
From the pertion where the main tube starts descending, a pair of upper tubes extends backward and slightly upward towards the rear side of the upper tubes with respect to the horizontal direction.
A pair of side tubes extending from a middle portion of the rear engine bracket and extending backward and upward, while extending parallel in a-direction so as to get welded with the end rear portion of the upper tubes.
The pair of left and right body frame components such as the down tubes and upper tubes as mentioned above are firmly interconnected with a plurality of horizontal bridges stretching between the pair of pipes and along the width of the vehicle body.
Referring to figure 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, a cover (200) made of two pieces left and right welded together and is disposed above the main tube (201). The said cover (201) is contoured to have an enlarged forward end (near handle bar) and a reduced rearward end (near seat hugging portion). The said cover (200) forms a tunnel shape (301) to receive the main tube (201). According to one aspect of the invention, the tunnel (301) has an inverted U shape with two side pieces- (left and right pieces) converging to form an upper wall. The forward end of the said cover (200) is provided with an inverted U shaped bridge (200 a). The end of the inverted U shape bridge (200 a) is welded to the opening edge of the two side pieces left and right. The said bridge (200 a) is provided with two C shaped locators or brackets (200 c). The said locators (200 c) are welded to the bridge.
Rear end of the cover (200) is welded with a metal bracket (200 b). The said C shaped locator (200 c) is provided with rubber cushions (200 d). The said cover (200) when mounted to the main tube (201) of the motorcycle, the forward end of the cover is supported by a projection from the bridge between the head pipe and main tube passing through the C locator rubber cushions.
Two upper tubes (100 b) originating from the main tube are provided with a horizontal bridge, to which the cover rear end metal bracket (200 b) is fixed with a rubber cushion (200 f).
According to another aspect of the present invention, a cover is preferably of tunnel shape housing defined by a single piece.
The said frame cover can be made out of plastic or a metal piece.
The said frame cover provides a good appearance to the motorcycle. The said cover can also be used to house a fuel tank or any other components like battery etc. Apart from that the said cover can also be configured to be used as article storage box.
The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A frame cover for a motorcycle comprising:
a tunnel shape housing defined by at least a single piece;
a bridge welded to the open ends of the piece at forward end;
at least two locators fixed to the bridge; and
