Front Fork For Two Wheeled Vehicle And Manufacturing Method Therefor

Abstract: ABSTRACT Disclosed is a manufacturing method (100) of a front fork outer tube (50) for a two wheeled vehicle. The method (100) involves preparing and placing a pre-finished liner of a required size in a gravity die cast mould and pouring molten aluminum into the gap between the mould and the pre-finished liner. Thus, the front fork is manufactured without requiring machining of internal hollow portion thereof. Figure 1

Specification

DESC:Field of the invention
The present invention relates to a suspension system of an automobile and more particularly, manufacturing method of an outer tube of a two wheeled vehicle front fork.
Background of the invention
At present, the outer tubes of a front fork are manufactured in a gravity die cast mould using raw materials. The part is moulded with a inner bore size lesser than a required size. In order to achieve a desired shape and size along with surface finish, excess raw material in an inner bore is machined for removal in the latter stage. Thus, the conventional manufacturing method of the front fork involves wastage of raw materials and machining time.
Accordingly, there is a need of a front fork for a two wheeled vehicle and a manufacturing method therefor that overcomes the above mentioned drawbacks of the prior art.
Objects of the invention
An object of the present invention is to manufacture a front fork outer tube, for a two wheeler in less machining time without wasting raw material.
Summary of the invention
The present invention provides a manufacturing method of an outer tube of a front fork for a two wheeled vehicle. The method involves preparing and placing a pre-finished liner of a required size in a gravity die cast mould. The molten aluminum is poured into the gap between the mould and the pre-finished liner. Thus, the front fork is manufactured without requiring machining of internal hollow portion thereof.
Brief description of the drawings
The objectives and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following description read in accordance with the accompanying drawings wherein,
Figure 1 shows a front fork outer tube having a pre finished liner, in accordance with the present invention; and
Figure 2 shows a flow chart illustrating a method of casting a front fork outer tube using a pre-finished liner, in accordance with the present invention.
Detailed description of the invention
The foregoing objects of the present invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with the prior art, techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention as described below in the preferred embodiment.
The present invention provides a manufacturing method for a front fork outer tube. The front fork outer tube of the present invention is manufactured in less machining time without wasting raw material.
The present invention is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein numbers indicated in the bracket represent the components of the invention throughout the description.
The front fork outer tube (50) is a hollow tube having an inner surface (20) and a outer surface (10). A pre-finished cylindrical liner, used during manufacturing of the outer tube (50), forms the inner surface (20) of the front fork outer tube (50).
The present invention provides a manufacturing method (100) (hereinafter, ‘the method (100)’) of the front fork (50).
• At step (60), the method (100) involves preparing a cylindrical shape pre-finished liner.
• At step (70), the method (100) involves placing the pre-finished liner of a required size in a gravity die cast mould (herein after ‘the mould’) (not shown), leaving a gap therebetween. Specifically, the pre-finished liner is a circular sleeve.
• At step (80), the method (100) involves pouring aluminum into the gap between the mould and the pre-finished liner, so that the molten aluminum surrounds the pre-finished liner.
• At step (90), the method (100) involves opening the mould after cooling. The pre-finished liner forms the inner surface (20) of the front fork outer tube (50).
Thus, in the method (100), the front fork (50) is manufactured without requiring machining of internal hollow portion thereof.
Advantages of the invention
1. The method (100) manufactures the front fork (50) with reduced usage of raw materials.
2. The method (100) manufactures the front fork (50) in reduced machining time.
3. The front fork (50) manufactured using the present method (100) is directly usable thus reducing the production/ machining time.
The foregoing objects of the invention are accomplished and the problems and shortcomings associated with prior art techniques and approaches are overcome by the present invention described in the present embodiment. Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein; however, it is to be understood that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure, or matter. The embodiments of the invention as described above and the methods disclosed herein will suggest further modification and alterations to those skilled in the art. Such further modifications and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
,CLAIMS:
1. A manufacturing method (100) for a front fork outer tube (50), comprising
preparing a pre-finished liner having a cylindrical shape and pre-defined dimensions;
placing the pre-finished liner in a gravity die cast mould leaving a gap therebetween;
pouring molten aluminum into the gap between the mould and the pre-finished liner; and
opening the mould after cooling;
characterized in that, the pre-finished liner is a cylindrical sleeve forming the inner surface (20) of the front fork outer tube (50).
