PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following provisional specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.

FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention is relates to Fuel Filler lids used in automobiles and more particularly it relates mechanism used for fuel filler lid.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Existing mechanisms are having plunger with co-axial spring and is housed in mounting bracket. The plunger end at spring side is having provision to assemble the cable or seloniod switch. The plunger is operated manually by cable through the lever at drivers location or electrically operated by seloniod switch.
OBJECTIVE OF INVENTION
Main objective of the invention is to provide compact fuel filler lid latching mechanism. Another objective of this invention is to provide fuel filler lid mechanism which is self operational and cost effective.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
The fuel filler mechanism consists of plunger for latching the lever of fuel filler lid. The plunger has provision of holding the compression spring which operates co-axial with the plunger. The plunger also houses the locking washer. The plunger along with spring and locking washer is housed in the mounting bracket. The plunger is operated by fuel filler lid lever during closing and lid gets locked. During opening, the lid is

opened by force applied at the finger depression which in turn causes the plunger to move inside due to lever and lid opens. Plunger gains its position.
DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Figure 1 shows the sectional details of the fuel filler lid latching mechanism (1). A plunger (2) is the main component of the mechanism. It operates coaxially with compression spring (3) and together is housed in mounting bracket assembly (4), which holds all the mechanism. The plunger is locked by locking washer (5) and prevented to come out of bracket. When axial force is applied to plunger, it operates axially against spring, spring getting compressed and when axial force is taken off, the plunger regains its original position due to spring force. The mounting bracket assembly has bush (6) to guide the plunger and mounting bracket assembly also provides guide to the plunger at other end so that plunger moves in axial direction. A mtg plate (7) is fixed to the mounting bracket assembly.
Figure 2 shows the mounting details of the latching mechanism on body shell. The mechanism is bolted on the housing. The lid has a lever with shape on the tip, which generates the axial force for plunger when closing and opening. The operating force on plunger is generated by lever (8) of fuel filler lid (9), which during closing pushes the plunger against the spring. The lever has a specified designed bend to push the plunger. The fuel filler lid (9) has a hinge with torsional spring bolted to housing (10) and rotates about the hinge axis to provide the opening and closing of lid. During closing of lid, the lid is pressed and the lever (7) due to its specific bend, exerts force on the plunger tip causing it to move back and after certain travel of lever (in turn the lid getting closed) the force is reduced and plunger retains back. The lever or lid cannot come back by itself due to plunger now obstructing the lever. During opening

of lid, the lid is pulled by finger on the depression given on the lid causing force on the plunger to move back. Then the lid opens.
