Description:TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present subject matter relates generally to a fuel filtration system. More particularly but not exclusively the present subject matter relates to mounting
5 location of a fuel filter assembly of the fuel filtration system.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Typically, a vehicle needs fuel in order to operate and run the vehicle on different road conditions. The fuel is stored in a fuel tank so that the fuel is used
10 during operation of the vehicle as per the requirements. Many-a-times, the fuel like petrol, diesel, gasoline, and the like gets contaminated or is adulterated. The contaminated or adulterated fuel cannot be given to a power train to run the vehicle, as it will affect the durability as well as performance of the power train, thus affecting the performance of the vehicle. To eliminate this problem, a fuel filter is
15 used. The fuel filter filters the fuel and removes dirt, dust particles, and other contaminants and then sends it to a fuel pump system. The fuel pump system further pumps filtered fuel to the power train.
[0003] In many known art, the fuel filter is placed inside the fuel tank. The fuel filter placed inside the fuel tank, filters the fuel, and sends the filtered fuel to the
20 power train through the pump system. In a known art, a pencil fuel filter is used, which is pressed inside the fuel tank during manufacturing, the fuel is filtered and transported through an outlet tube to the fuel pump system, to be pumped to an engine. The outlet tube is wrapped around the fuel tank from outside and the pencil filter is inserted from a bottom side of the fuel tank.
25 [0004] Due to adulterated fuel, the fuel filter is getting clogged very frequently than expected, which is making it difficult for the fuel filter to filter the fuel efficiently. Thus, the fuel filter is removed and replaced with a new fuel filter each time when the fuel filter has been saturated with contaminants, thus increasing frequency of servicing for changing the fuel filter. Apart from that, serviceability of the fuel filter
30 and the fuel tank is very difficult. In order to service the fuel tank or the fuel filter, the entire fuel tank is to be taken out of the vehicle and then one or more hoses
connected with the fuel tank, or the fuel filter is to be disconnected. After that the fuel from the fuel tank is emptied and then the fuel filter is removed, which is very difficult, cumbersome, and time taking process.
[0005] In another known art, the fuel filter used in the fuel tank are reusable. So the
5 fuel filter needs to be serviced with time so that the functioning of the fuel filter is not hindered. But, to service the reusable type of fuel filter, the entire fuel tank is to be taken out of the vehicle and then the one or more hoses connected with the fuel tank, or the fuel filter is to be disconnected. After that the fuel from the fuel tank is emptied and then the fuel filter is removed, which is a long tiring process, increasing
10 the serviceability time, adding additional cost for the user of the vehicle which is not desirable.
[0006] In addition to this, the existing fuel filter placed inside the fuel tank has a small surface area of a filter element. The capacity of the fuel filter with the small surface area is very less and thus the fuel filter gets clogged very easily and very
15 fast. Apart from this, cleaning of the filter element of reusable fuel filter with small surface area is very difficult and is not cleaned effectively, leading to the failure of the fuel filter.
[0007] The above-mentioned problems are critical and therefore, there is a need for a fuel filter which is easy to place, service, and which can work efficiently without
20 increasing the frequency of the servicing and without taking out the fuel tank at the time of serviceability. Thus, there is a need to overcome the above-mentioned problems and other problems of known art.

210 and facilitates ease in serviceability of the fuel filter assembly 202.
[0009] In another embodiment, the filter housing 208 is made up of one of a nylon or polyethylene material. However, the filter element 206 can be made up of any type of fuel filtering material. In yet another embodiment, the filter element 206 of
25 the fuel filter assembly 202 is made from transparent material to indicate the level of contaminants. This will help a user of the vehicle 100 to identify when the filter element 206 is clogged and thus the filter element 206 can be serviced from time to time. In an embodiment, the filter element 206 of the fuel filter assembly 202 is a reusable filter. Accordingly, using the same the user can check the level of filter
30 element 206 inside the fuel filter assembly 202 without opening the fuel filter
assembly 202. The fuel filter assembly 202 will provide ease to the user and the fuel filter assembly 202 will also reduce the serviceability time.
[00010] In an embodiment, the fuel filter assembly 202 includes one or more sensors (not shown) placed on the fuel filter assembly 202 or anywhere in proximity
5 of the fuel filter assembly 202 to sense the level of contaminants in the filter element
206. The one or more sensors senses and sends a signal to a control unit (not shown), when the fuel filter assembly 202 reaches at a predetermined threshold value of contaminants. The control unit triggers a warning informing the user of the vehicle 100 that the filter element 206 needs to be serviced. Also, the control unit will show
10 that up to what distance the vehicle can travel with the current clogged filter element
206. The information will be displayed on an instrument cluster (not shown) of the vehicle. In one of the embodiments of the present invention, the information will be transferred to one of an electronic device of the user.
[00011] The above-mentioned configuration provides a fuel filtration system
15 having a reusable fuel filter assembly and a fuel tank such that the fuel filter is mounted on the top surface of the fuel tank. This facilitates ease in access to the fuel filter assembly so that the serviceability can be done. This location ensures that the filter cleaning process is simple, easy, and less time taking. In the present invention, there is no requirement to take out the fuel from the fuel tank in order to
20 access and service/ replace the filter element of the fuel filter assembly. In the present claimed location, the fuel filter assembly is easily serviced in a three- wheeled cargo vehicle layout.
[00012] The claimed steps as discussed above are not routine, conventional, or well understood in the art, as the claimed steps enable the following solutions to the
25 existing problems in conventional technologies. The conventional fuel filter assembly is not easily accessible to address the problem related to the serviceability and accessibility of the fuel filter assembly, whereas the present claimed invention having the fuel filter assembly mounted on the top surface of the fuel tank and being placed in line between the filter inlet pipe and the filter outlet pipe is able to
30 facilitate accessibility and serviceability of the fuel filter assembly.
[00013] While the present disclosure has been described with reference to certain embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes may be made, and equivalents may be substituted without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
