3. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Citrus grandis ranges from 15 to 95%.
4. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis ranges from 15 to 95%.
5. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Triticum aestivum ranges from 15 to 95%.

A process for the preparation of a functional aqualete, wherein the process comprises the steps of: a. obtaining, cleaning and sprouting wheatgrass; b. obtaining pomelo and extracting juice; c. obtaining and extracting hibiscus flower; d. obtaining wheat grass extract; e. mixing wheatgrass extract pomelo juice and hibiscus flower extract to obtain the developed functional aqualete.
7. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the wheat grass is sprouted for 12 hrs to 3 days followed by harvesting after 7 days.

Description:FIELD OF INVENTION:
[001] The present invention relates to functional aqualetes and their effect on acute endurance on athletes Particularly, the present invention relates to antioxidant profile of developed (aqualetes) beverages for athletes and a process for the preparation thereof.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
[002] The production of functional beverages termed Aqualete i.e “Aqua” means water and “lete” means for athletes/sports person) as the method of combining fruit, herb, and grass to create medically relevant ingredients for functional beverage formulation.
[003] The commerce for functional food sector constitutes functional beverages as the fastest growing fragment. Over the last decade, there is a diverse demand for healthy functional food products for infants, baked cereals, dairy based products, confectionery, cheese spreads and beverages have expanded all over the world. Several incessant reconstructing have been done in functional beverages and corresponding markets where consumers are seeking health benefits and originality from these health drinks.
[004] The markets for new functional beverages with appended bioactive constituents such as antioxidants, dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, omega-3-fatty acids, sterols/stanols, prebiotics and biopeptides contains several health benefits related to energy, athletic performance, hydration, digestion, diabetes, cancer, cognitive capability, managing weight, CVD, bone and joint health. The major role of health drink is well informed to the mass with respect to health and dietary habits; hence these desired functional beverages help to inhibit progressive degenerative diseases which are caused by oxidative stress.
[005] Beverages are the greatest dynamic functional food categories as they bear satisfactory demands of the consumers in terms of contents, appearance, shape and size of the market product, can be easily distributed, superior storage for refrigerated conditions, shelf-life stability and desirable substantial favorability to incorporate bioactive constituents. Functional beverages are enriched with vegetables, fruits and cereal grasses with widespread acceptance as milk-based beverages of the consumers. Beverages based on fruits and herb extracts like aloevera, rosemary, peppermint, ginseng, lavender etc can be mixed with water, juice or tea comprising its aroma and taste along with its therapeutic properties which are contemporarily encountering appreciable attention in terms of growth on market prospective and are marked under variety of name such as fruit drinks, breakfast drink, ready-to-serve, nectar, ready-to-drink and squash etc.
[006] Giving an alternative to artificial beverages that are harmful to human health has become vital. Nutraceutical rich extracts of selected herbs can be mixed altogether for the preparation of energizing functional aqualetes that may improve athletic and non-athletics performance in terms of endurance, also fulfills the nutritional requirement that aid in relaxation, energy, mental focus, immunity and general fitness of a person with hydration and maintenance of body fluid level which can be depleted from exercising. As consumers continue to demand healthy alternatives, one should develop new line products that not only target specific health conditions but also target general fitness of a person with performance. Due to their accessibility and capacity to satisfy consumer wants, beverages are now the functional food category with the most growth potential. Due to their abundant natural supply of vital vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds- all of which support greater wellbeing-they must be promoted on a health platform. Traditional herbs and fruit combinations may be the simplest way to create a unique beverage product because there is such a wide variety of functional components on the market making beverage remodeling much easier. Since consumers continue to seek healthy options, it is important to design printing operation goods that not only target particular health concerns but also target daily individual fitness. Despite low levels of public awareness compared to western markets, functional foods and beverages are finding growth in India with more people becoming health conscious and have created a huge opportunity for natural food products where consumers are increasingly opting as a strongest pull towards the functional category. The developed functional aqualetes would be a natural option to the synthetic beverages along with several health benefits and having high potential for commercialization and marketability due to rich medicinal values and nominal cost. Also, the present study would appraise focus on the quality and acceptability of these functional beverages and evaluating excellent sensory properties with good shelf life due to their microbial load and making an intervention on aerobically trained and untrained subjects would make functional aqualetes that could therapeutically help in improving the endurance of athletes along with health and general fitness of consumers.
[007] Therefore, there is a need to develop an aqualete with better shelf life that is also cost effective.
[008] Given the above, there arises a need to develop an improved functional aqualete that eliminates the problems associated with earlier beverages for acute endurance. The present invention provides a better solution for the same.
OBJECTIVE OF THE INVENTION:
[009] An objective of the present invention is to develop functional aqualete.
[0010] An objective of the present invention is to provide a process for the preparation of a functional aqualete to improve endurance in athletes.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:
[0011] Accordingly, the present invention provides a functional aqualete comprising: Citrus grandis (Pomelo), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Hibiscus flower), Triticum aestivum (Wheat grass) and Ginger extract.
[0012] In an embodiment, the present invention provides that Wheatgrass, Pomelo, Hibiscus ranges from 15 to 95%.
[0013] In an embodiment, the present invention provides 5% of Ginger extract.
[0014] In an embodiment, the present invention provides a process for the preparation of a functional aqualete, wherein the process comprises the steps of obtaining, cleaning and sprouting wheatgrass; extraction of pomelo juice; sorting, crushing and extracting hibiscus flower; mixing all ingredients: wheatgrass, pomelo and hibiscus flower extract in different proportions to obtain the functional aqualete.
[0015] In an embodiment, the present invention provides that the wheat grass is 12–48 hours soaked, sealed for 3 days for sprouting followed by harvesting after 7 days.
[0016] In an embodiment, the present invention provides that the wheat grass juice is obtained by homogenizing the wheat grass.
[0017] In an embodiment, the present invention developed functional aqualetes were then prepared and adjusted at 12ºBrix and 4-4.5 pH followed by pasteurization and permeated in 200 ml sterilized glass bottles which were immersed in hot water treatment plant (Sanco ®) at 100ºC.

[0026] The present invention provides a better profile of vitamins and minerals with antioxidant potential of Citrus grandis (Pomelo), Hibiscus rosa-sinensis (Hibiscus flower) and Triticum aestivum (Wheat grass) at different treatments followed by their organoleptic evaluation. The present invention also provides a better shelf-life stability of developed functional aqualetes (beverages) in terms of sensory, physicochemical characteristics and microbial load phenomenon of functional ingredients in developing therapeutic beverage renovation much easier, that traditional herbs and fruits combination could be a way to make a beverage product distinctive which can enhance bioavailability of other nutrients furthermore therapeutic potency for various chronic and metabolic disorders.
[0027] Six treatments of beverages were prepared by adding different proportions of all juices from Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum), Hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) and Pomelo (Citrus grandis) along with ginger extract as a flavoring agent. The potential for health benefits was taken into consideration when choosing the raw materials. Each ingredient was manufactured separately for its intended use after the raw materials were chosen. Wheatgrass seeds had been cleaned and dried for 24 hours in water. Floating seeds have been discharged. Then, for 12–48 hours, soaked seeds were covered with wet cloth to allow them to germinate. Sprouts have been put in the damp soil and sealed for 3 days with damp cheesecloth. They were eventually watered twice a day. After seven days, the wheat grass was collected; the harvest was made with soil cuts of around one inch. Pomelo was collected from Azadpur mandi, New Delhi and Hibiscus calyx from Khari baoli, New Delhi. Pomelos were gathered at their optimal age and were sorted, washed, peeled and juice was extracted from them using hydraulic press (Johnston Automation Co.). The Hibiscus calyces were cleaned with cold water, crushed and extracted using calyces immersed in hot water at a ratio of 50g: 1000L for 15 minutes and filtration of the extract was carried out using a sterilized cheese cloth. Cleaned wheatgrass was homogenized for 5 minutes in 30% water in Philips blender (H17705/00700).
[0028] The present invention relates to a beverage that gives a dehydrated body the much-needed hydration and salt replenishment. It is intended in particular to those who are engaging in moderate to vigorous levels of activity along with better storage stability and physico-chemical characteristics encompassing antioxidant potential, vitamins & minerals. The current invention thus offers a health drink that is affordable, organoleptically satisfactory, naturally flavoured, preservative-free, therapeutically significant, and has a pleasing colour. The developed beverages contain a combination of Citrus grandis (Pomelo), Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle) and Triticum aestivum (Wheat grass) at different treatments termed Aqualetes i.e “Aqua” means water and “letes” means for athletes/sports person). Pomelo, because it is mostly grown as backyard crop in India and widely grown. It is an excellent source of β-Carotene and ascorbic acid, fiber, potassium, iron, calcium and bioactive constituents such as carotenoids and polyphenols that helps in the dissemination of health benefits beyond basic nutrition. It consists of bioactive compounds with polyphenols, carotenoids and flavonoids that have been commended to play a role in protecting against severe health conditions which manifest therapeutic properties such as analgesic, antihypertensive, diuretic, hypolipidemic and anti-inflammatory activities. Hibiscus is one of the most customary ingredients found in commercialized tea blends and has organic acids including citric, alko-hydroxycitric acid, tartaric, malic and protocatechuic acid are well known for medicinal properties and its aerial parts are useful in making various herbal medicines as well as other food products due to its potential pharmacological properties. And wheatgrass contains outrageous concentrations of chlorophyll, vitamin C, E, β-Carotene, minerals and amino acids. It has been shown to possess anti-ulcer, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-arthritic and anti-ageing properties Various reported studies have shown improved digestive system and detoxification due to regular ingestion of wheat grass extract which holds its rich antioxidant content such as apigenin, quercitin, luteolin etc. Thus, Nutraceutical rich extracts of selected herbs can be mixed altogether for the preparation of energizing functional aqualetes that may improve athletic and non-athletics performance in terms of endurance, also fulfills the nutritional requirement that aid in relaxation, energy, mental focus, immunity and general fitness of a person with hydration and maintenance of body fluid level which can be depleted from exercising.
The following examples define the invention by way of illustration which does not limit the scope of the invention.
Example 1:
[0029] Functional beverages were then prepared according to the design combinations (Table 1) and adjusted at 12º Brix and 4-4.5 pH followed by pasteurization and permeated in 200 ml sterilized glass bottles which were immersed in hot water treatment plant (Sanco ®) at 100ºC. The sample beverages were held in cold storage (6-8°C) for a month in sterilized glass bottles.

3. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Citrus grandis ranges from 15 to 95%.
4. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis ranges from 15 to 95%.
5. The functional aqualete as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Triticum aestivum ranges from 15 to 95%.
6. A process for the preparation of a functional aqualete, wherein the process comprises the steps of:
a. obtaining, cleaning and sprouting wheatgrass;
b. obtaining pomelo and extracting juice;
c. obtaining and extracting hibiscus flower;
d. obtaining wheat grass extract;
e. mixing wheatgrass extract pomelo juice and hibiscus flower extract to obtain the developed functional aqualete.
7. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the wheat grass is sprouted for 12 hrs to 3 days followed by harvesting after 7 days.
8. The process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the wheatgrass extract is obtained by homogenizing the wheatgrass.
