Abstract: The invention discloses a gear system for bicycles. The gear system comprises a disintegrated crank axle shaft and the driver sprocket such that their rotational speeds are different. The gear system comprises an epicyclic gear system with a ring gear, planetary gears and a sun gear and the sun gear is coupled to an idler gear and a compound gear to deliver the output to the driver sprocket. With smaller number of moving components, manufacturability, assembly and improved serviceability. Reliability is improved and pedaling effort on the part of the rider is reduced. Thus the gear system provided to the bicycle enables easy riding and also gives enhanced tractive effort and riding comfort speed for the rider and improving overall efficiency. A ring gear encasing the planetary pinions, and a carrier to which the planetary pinions are attached provided to prevent the bicycle from derailing, quickens the shifting process
DESC:[0008] While the invention has been disclosed with reference to certain embodiments, it
will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes may be made and
equivalents may be substituted without departing from the scope of the invention. In
addition, many modifications may be made to adapt to a particular situation or material
to the teachings of the invention without departing from its scope.
[0009] Throughout the specification and claims, the following terms take the meanings
explicitly associated herein unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. The meaning of
"a", "an", and "the" include plural references. The meaning of "in" includes "in" and
"on." Referring to the drawings, like numbers indicate like parts throughout the views.
Additionally, a reference to the singular includes a reference to the plural unless
otherwise stated or inconsistent with the disclosure herein.
[0010] The invention in its various embodiments proposes a gear system for bicycles,
which has been described hereinafter.
[0011] FIG. 1 is a first side view of a bicycle 5 with a bicycle gear system 10. FIG. 2 is
a second side view of the bicycle 5 with the bicycle gear system 10. FIG. 1 and FIG. 2
are two opposite side views to show the location of the gear system 10. The gear system
10 is positioned on one side of the bicycle 5, preferably the right side of the bicycle 5 in
the forward orientation.
,CLAIMS:
1) A bicycle with a gear system is provided,
Wherein,
the said gear system 10 comprises components housed in two cases 105 and 110 and the said cases 105 and 110 are fitted together, making the gear system 10 compact and the said gear system 10 comprises a crank axle shaft 115 connected to the pedal or the crank of the bicycle wherein a coupling portion 120 of the axle is shaped like a flower petal and the axle shaft 115 may be referred to as the flower petal axle and the sai gear system 10 further comprises a planetary gear system comprising a ring gear 125, attached to the coupling portion 120 of the axle shaft 115 by way of welding or fasteners, when the crank axleshaft 115 is rotated by pedaling
2) The bicycle with gear system as claimed in claim 1, wherein the Planetary gear 130 rotates opposite with the crank axle shaft 115 and the planetary gear system, the components of which will be described hereinafter comprises four planetary gears 130 to transmit power to a sun gear 140, which is also part of the planetary gear system and further four planetary gears are used for proper load distribution as well and the planetary gears are mounted in Flower petal Axle.
3) Power flow in the planetary gear system as claimed in claim 1 starts with the Planetary gear 130 wherein the planetary gear acts as the driver and the power output is derived from a sun gear 140 and the ring gear 125 is fixed in the casing 105 and the planetary gears 130 rotate in the opposite direction of axle and therefore, the sun gear 140 which meshes with the planetary gears 130 rotates in a direction opposite to the planetary gear 130.
4) The sun gear 140, as claimed in claim 3, wherein it meshes with a compound gear 150 and power from the sun gear 140 passes on to the compound gear 150 at a fixed ratio wherein the compound gear 150 is mounted on a compound gear static shaft 160 and the said compound gear 150 transmits power to an output gear 165 and rotates a driver sprocket 170 of the bicycle 5 and the power is transmitted from the driver sprocket 170 of the bicycle to a driven sprocket through chain/belt and futher the output gear 165 rotates about the axle shaft 115 and delivers power in the same direction of the crank arm rotation.
