Abstract: The avionics LRUs (line replaceable units) of an aircraft consist of different systems like mission computer, flight control computer, air data system, cockpit displays, navigation systems, weapon aiming systems, identification system, communication systems, sensors etc. The integration of avionics system is a complex activity and conventionally, different rigs are used for different aircraft development/upgrade/maintenance programs. In the present invention, a generic rig is developed which is configurable to integrate avionics LRUs of any aircraft design. The generic rig provides input/output signal simulation of different types avionics data interfaces. It carries out functional simulation of the subsystems and supports static and dynamic testing. The rig can be used to perform hardware-in-loop testing of avionics LRUs. The rig has the following modules: • Industrial computer with add-on cards for input/output signal simulation, functional simulation, and data acquisition; • Generic connector panel which has the potential to reconfigure signal routing; • Provision for pilot controls; • LRU stimulation system; • Platform to place the LRUs, • Power supply and controls; • Protocol analyzer; • Interconnections of signals; • User interface and report generation.

(j) Detailed Description of Invention:
The avionics LRUs (line replaceable units) of an aircraft consist of different systems like mission computer, flight control computer, air data system, cockpit displays, navigation systems, weapon aiming systems, identification system, communication systems, sensors etc. The integration of avionics system is a complex activity and conventionally, different rigs are used for different aircraft development/upgrade/maintenance programs.
In the present invention, a generic rig is developed which is configurable to integrate avionics LRUs of any aircraft design. It has the following modules:
1) Industrial computer with add-on cards for input/output signal simulation,
functional simulation, and data acquisition;
2) Generic connector panel which has the potential to reconfigure signal routing;
3) Provision for pilot controls;
4) LRU stimulation system;
5) Platform to place the LRUs,
6) Power supply and controls;
7) Protocol analyzer;
8) Interconnections of signals
9) User interface and report generation
Fig 1.0 provides the schematic.
The rig provides input/output signal simulation of different types avionics data interfaces. It carries out functional simulation of the subsystems and supports static and dynamic testing. The rig can be used to perform hardware-in-loop testing of avionics LRUs.
