Abstract: A grab rail assembly for a scooter type vehicle is provided with a seat base structure; a foam to be disposed above the seat base structure; and a resin cover to be disposed above the foam; wherein the seat base is provided with a raised portion formed integrally along the lateral axis of the seat base at the rear end.
Grab Rail Structure
Field of invention:
This invention is related to "Grab rail structure" and more particularly related to a grab rail for providing a hand grip for the pillion rider of a scooter type motorcycle.
Back ground of the invention:
In most of the known type of motorcycles, hand grip device is provided on either sides of the pillion rider. The said hand grip device is permanently mounted on the frame structure through known means of fastening. The said hand grip provides a secure hold to the pillion rider when the vehicle is accelerating, decelerating or moving at steady high speeds. The seat assembly used on such motorcycles typically comprises of a seat base structure preferably of resin material, foam, rexin cover for covering the seat foam and means for mounting onto vehicle body. Mounting of hand grip device on the frame structure involves use of multiple fasteners, loss of productivity due to assembly time and inventory cost.
Hence the objective of the invention is to overcome the above problem associated with the existing arrangement. Summary of the Invention:
An objective of the present invention is to provide a grab rail structure for a hand grip device which can be used for multi utility functions for holding or suspending articles.
Further scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter. However, it should be understood that' the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred embodiments of the invention, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Brief description of the Drawings:
The present invention will become more fully understood from the detailed description given herein below and the accompanying drawings which are given by way of illustration only, and thus are not limitative of the present invention, and wherein
FIG. 1 is shows scooter type motorcycle.
FIG. 2 shows the grab rail according to the present invention.
Detail Description of the Drawings:
Referring to Figure 1, in a scooter a front wheel 101 and a rear wheel 102are supported by the frame assembly through front and rear shocker. A handle bar assembly 103 is supported by the frame assembly in a position generally forwardly of an operator of the scooter. A seat assembly 104 is supported generally rearwardly of the handlebar assembly 103 and is configured to support an operator of the scooter in a straddle-type fashion. Preferably, a step thru' space 105 is defined between the handle bar assembly 103 and the seat assembly 104 of the present invention.
Referring to Figure 2, the said seat assembly 104 comprises of seat base structure 201, foam 202 and seat resin 203. The said seat base structure 201 is generally injection moulded of polymer resin in a rectangular shape with a provision to have mounting holes 201a to attach the said base to the frame. The configuration of the seat base structure 201 is generally a flat rectangular plate with stiffening ribs in the centre portion and with a perpendicular flange formed to the outer edge of suitable height enough to give sufficient strength. A narrow raised portion of the seat base 201 is integrally formed along the lateral axis of the seat base 201 at the rear end to facilitate as a grab rail. The raised portion is located opposite to the flange portion of the seat base 201. The raised portion is provided with recess 201c to enable to insert the hand. The invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the claims.
We Claim:
1. A grab rail assembly for a scooter type vehicle comprising:
a seat base structure;
a foam to be disposed above the seat base structure; and
a resin cover to be disposed above the foam;
wherein the seat base is provided with a raised portion formed integrally along the lateral axis of the seat base at the rear end.
2. The grab rail assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein the said seat base structure is a flat rectangular plate with stiffening ribs in the center portion.
3. A grab rail assembly substantially as shown and described in the specification.
